I am so glad something is going to be done either way. Poor Joe, it would be lovely to see him running instead of "hopping" and be out of any pain. Will be thinking of him on the 17th.

Today the lovely Smokey Joe has been to see Graham the vet,he had his second vax,was weighed, he is slowly gaining weight, then Graham let him run around the garden at the vets. Smokey Joe walks well on his leg now ,but after a mad dash around the garden he started limping, his leg must be giving him pain.He had some ear ruffs and doggie treats off Graham the vet,and Graham wished him luck and love for his operation next week.He was very good at the vets ,ignoring a cat in a basket and a gerbil in the waiting room. The longer smokey joe is with me here ,the more puppy like he has become,He is still very very worried about doing any thing wrong ,but when he relaxes him starts to play, running about .He loves getting on the trampoline with my labradoole, and playing puppy bouncing games, .On monday he is off to be fostered close to where his leg surgery will take,Iwill miss him ,but he will be returning after his check up ,and will have further check ups here .Smokey joe is such a lovely well behaved dog ,still very scared and worried as he has been so mistreated . Good luck smokey joe with your leg operation ,your foster mom luffs you and will be thinking of you

All change for poor wee Joe - he has clearly done well - good that he's gained weight too, especially considering the surgery will cost him a few pounds no doubt.
Good job from FM1, wont be long before he loses his bad memories....so many good ones are on the horizon xx

Will be thinking special good-luck thoughts for Joe on the 17th Hugest hugs for you too Yvonne, I'm sure it won't be easy to let this boy go albeit that you know it's in his best interests. I can tell you from current experience with Kalli that the staff at Fitzpatricks are wonderful - efficient and kind. And, I understand, the kennels each have their own TV! ;D Audrey x

Well Joe has left his temp. foster home and is returning to his permanent foster place with Tailwind.........he has been incredibly well mannered and patient while he has been with us and accepted the enforced crate rest with very good grace and while it has been so cold, he was eager to be back in it, nice and warm and snuggly He has been discharged from NF care as they are very happy that his leg is well on the road to recovery and having been the one to walk him recently, there is every reason to believe that he will make a full recovery and be able to be a 'normal' lurcher He will need some disciplined walking (i.e. slow) to make him use the leg fully and help build up the long (probably) unused muscles but the main thing to be watching out for is the inflammation of the tendon, which was being aggravated by the broken piece of kneecap, but he is on anti-inflammatories which seem to be doing the job, and why it is so important at this stage to keep him calm with no jumping, running or hooning. This is one lovely dog who doesn't appear to have a bad bone in his body (although he was quite keen to chase the Pheasants)! and once the muscles are built back up he should be just like any other lurcher. He can be a bit clumsy, but that might be down to wearing the lamp shade at the moment, so once its off it'll probably be a different story.

This wonderful patient boy has spent a quiet night at my house. I can't believe how well behaved he is considering he is shut in a crate almost all day. He is lovely and waggy whenever he is given any attention, but is not demanding it all the time. He has had his breakfast and been round the garden for a wee and a poo and is now settled down for a good warm up again in his crate. He does pull on the lead, but who can blame him. I can't wait for the time he can go off lead and race around again, not to mention dumping the buster-collar which makes him a bit awkward, although he puts up with it all so well, bless him. He will be moving back to Yvonne's later today and I'm already going to miss him. He's such an angel.
