Lizzie, has no known history, but has been in holding kennels for a few weeks. She only weighed 17 kilos, and the R.S.P.C.A. were prepared to take this as a cruelty case if the owners did come forward. She has put on some weight in the last few weeks. She is a lovely natured girlie, of between 1 and 16 months at the most. She is in the best possible foster home with lots of tlc and will flourish in no time at all. Early days yet, but will be assessed over the next few days.

Day 1. I collected this lovely girl from the Dog Warden this afternoon. She travelled very well in the crate in the back of the car. Interested in what was happening, but not worried, and even put her head down sometimes. When we got home she had a calm greeting from our Old Grumpy, so obviously girls are now tolerated on his patch! Unlike Molly who was very cowed and nervous when she first arrived, this little madam was keen to explore all the house and garden, and even the worktops if we had let her! We went for a checkup with Uncle Graham this afternoon. He declared her healthy although rather underweight (17.85kg), and gave her the first vaccination. 3 meals a day, including some Puppy food, to build her up, weight check next Wednesday and if all's well we'll arrange for her operation. At the moment she is always looking for food, and enjoys Twiglets, bacon rind, cheese, hide chews, Shapes, Minie Markies, Gravy bones, Dentastix, and nearly had the grandson's ice cream! We can definitely say she is relaxed around a boistrous 6 year old boy, he was hugging her and flattening her ears back, and she put up with it gracefully. The photo doesn't really convey how skinny she is: After our final walk and bedtime treats, she is now quietly sleeping in her crate downstairs (fingers crossed !) She is a lovely girl, with an enquiring mind, and eager to please. Watch this space!

So glad she is healthy...the skinnyness can be dealt with and it sounds like she has a good appetite so it wont be long before she's got a little more meat on those bones It sounds like she has the right temperament to make a delightful companion for some very lucky human once she's blossomed (as Ive no doubt she will in her doggy health farm) Lovely news - photos of this young lass will be in great demand! xxxx

What a poppet Lizzie Lurcher is . With plenty of love, good food and home comforts she'll soon get some meat on those bones. Good ol Mr Grumpy for adjusting to his foster siblings .

Day2: We all slept well until 6.00am, except Grandson, who had been having a bad night with cough and cold (and Asthma), so Nana Mollie finally had to drag herself out of bed! Lizzie's crate was dry, and she was keen to go out to the garden. Unfortunately I did not watch her closely enough after she had had her puppy food breakfast, and she had an accident (both) on the carpet in the hall. Elementary mistake on my part, but we were a bit distracted by Brook's state of health.(He had to be taken to the local hospital's out of hours clinic, and sent home with serious medicine for a chest infection). Back to the girl in question: She enjoyed the walk through our local woods, and met a couple of small dogs without incident. She also likes Pigs ears and the hide chew sticks: Oh Lizzie, what a long tail you have! In fact she is one looong dog! She stood up to Caspar a couple of times today: when the youngsters are running around in the garden his fun is to "head them off" as they pass, but when he did it today, Lizzie stopped dead, sat on her tail, and bared her teeth quite convincingly! Caspar just did a sort of "Harumph" and walked away, whereupon she stood up and mooched along with him: point made! She has also done a little growl to warn him off sniffing at her bowl when she is still eating, but in balance she accords him his own space too, no probs! On the main walk this afternoon she was friendly with smaller dogs( including some Chihuahuas? and mini-Yorkies belonging to a friend), but was cautious with bigger males, even growling under her breath at Monty, but then he is intact. Maybe in her former life she learnt to stand up to bigger dogs on the site to preserve her virginity!! I don't think it's a problem, she'll soon come to see that our local dogs are mostly softie pets! All quiet down in the kitchen again tonight.............
