Thank you all for your good wishes re Grandson. We saw him briefly at his Mum's today, and he is quite improved, but with the asthma he has got to keep on taking the medicine to really shake it off.(This is Brook, who is one of the stars in May on the calendar).
Lizzie day 3: We were all sleeping peacefully until Caspar woke me up to go out at 2.55am. Lizzie had to come out of her crate too, but would she come down onto the cold wet grass for a wee? No way! I think Caspar had just heard foxes in the garden, but you can never be sure it's not the runs, can you! So we all went back to bed and crate and slept peacefully to 8.00am.
I should say that she walks easily on the lead, (until she sees a squirrel!), and is not phased by traffic. Her caution with big dogs was better today, and she wags her tail for all the people and children who stop to speak to her. Again we walked along with the Chihuahua for a spell, but no "prey" interest at all. This girl does not seem to have much "baggage" at all.

Day 4: we kept the windows closed last night, so Caspar didn't hear any foxes, so we all slept soundly until 7.30, wonderful! Lizzie continues to eat for England, and I swear she looks better already. A routine day, nothing special to report, but she is getting a bit more playful. She is certainly relaxed, flopping over her beds at all sorts of crazy angles, like a good lurcher should! I must have my camera beside my chair tomorrow to try to snap her at it!

We had a restless house guest for a few hours yesterday evening. Monty came here while his Dad helped with the transport run for the two white boys, coming down to stay with Tailwind. He was a little less noisy than last time, but when not actively being petted, his whole concentration was on the doors and back gate and when Daddy would reappear. Lizzie couldn't understand what all the noise was about, and on more than one occasion curled up in her crate for a bit of peace!
This morning we had a brief visit with Graham to assess her progress: 19.85kg, so coming on nicely. He has booked her in for spaying next Thursday 28th, with post-op check and second vaccination on Monday 1st November.
We are taking her up to our local fenced field this afternoon, to try some recall. I must take the camera with me!

Hi Keith, Did the muzzle arrive? Thanks for the update. And fingers crossed for the recall. Smoked sausage is a good reason to come back

Muzzle arrived a few minutes ago, thanks. It fits, but I got a sideways look when trying it on her! Hopefully she won't need it for too long.

Look, no lead, and not running away!: I hope she looks a bit more filled out now too. She was very good, and happy to come back to us, but it was not a very 'testing' scenario as there were no other dogs, or wildlife, around. Maybe we'll try tomorrow on Whitecliff with other dogs around, and the muzzle, just in case. We also left both dogs at home for an hour and a half this early evening. Lizzie in her crate did a little whine as we left, but all was well when we got back. She was quite relaxed this evening during The Apprentice:

This morning I let her off in our local woods on the morning walk and she was fine, she came back easily when called, but turned her nose up at the supposed 'training treats'. I'll have to cut up some Schmackos(?), her favourite, for next time. We met a couple of local dogs, and with plenty of verbal encouragment to be gentle and be nice etc, it was no problem.
This afternoon I took both dogs down to Whitecliff at about 1.30, when it is nice and quiet, very few other dogs. We had a long walk, and she had a super time racing around in short bursts, came back often, and even went in the sea a couple of times because Caspar did. She looks wistfully at the small flocks of sea birds paddling about when the tide is going out, I don't think it will be long before she's chasing them around like Simba used to!
Later this afternoon we went down again, but just as I let her off near Colin and Monty she was spooked by something, (a raised ball throwing stick perhaps), and raced off in the direction of the car. Fortunately where we park is only an access lane, so no traffic. Naturally I hurried over there and she did come back to me for a cuddle to reassure her. I waited then until we were further round before letting her off, but there were so many other dogs around to watch out for (there are a couple of different dogs Caspar doesn't like, too) that we didn't go as far, and Lizzie seemed keen to get back home. Was it tea time??
Very peaceful and stretched out this evening!

Lovely long walk on Whitecliff this morning, Lizzie enjoying being off-lead: We came across Colin with Monty and Murphy (and Jenny + grandchildren). When Monty first bounded over in his usual fashion, Lizzie snarled "geroff" at him, but very soon they were all mooching along happily. The grandchildren wanted to toddle up and down the skate ramps, so while Granny supervised that, Murphy waited patiently for someone to pick up his ball, While the others sniffed around to see what the kids might have dropped: Monty in the foreground, then Caspar , Lizzie at top. Caspar thought the Yoof might have something... But they were not feeling generous, so Colin had to oblige with bits of Schmacko: Hope we get this gorgeous weather on Sunday at Manor Farm!
