To round off a lovely day we went down again this afternoon. What a difference, there was a cold wind blowing off the Harbour, and the clouds were building up. Lizzie again had a long spell off lead, and we walked along with Dannie's 3 tinys. We came across Shirley, who likes to be "The Lilliput Livercake Lady", with obvious results: This illustrates how tiny they are! Could this mean Lizzie would accept cats? Lizzie now comes upstairs to our "office" when I'm on the computer, but she thinks it a bit of a bore! (Doesn't she know it's all about Her?)

Today we went to Manor Farm for the big get-together. Lizzie felt a bit cold standing around at the beginning, so we borrowed a lovely warm coat fron Aunty Kate. The non-lurcher in the foreground is Bailey, who lives at Oxted. He really enjoyed bouncing around the field! Lizzie mooched about a bit, but was not very inclined to join in the lurcher play. She is quite a contained soul, and preferred to watch quietly and soak up the sun:

It was great to see you and Mollie today Keith and meet the lovely LIzzie, she is such a beautiful and peaceable girl. You seem to be making a habit of fostering contented and soulful girlies - or maybe they arrive in Poole stressed out and very speedily become chilled! Audrey x

Perhaps it's something in the air at the seaside! You'll have to ask the girls in question!

Little by little lovely Lizzie's character is coming through. She has begun to play with squeaky balls a little bit at home. She loves gnawing the compressed hide 'bones', but happily does not show any interest in chewing the rest of the household! When out on our afternoon walks she runs around Caspar and challenges him to play, and he is just beginning to give in, but only a little bit (doesn't want to spoil his Senior Citizen reputation!). She will now run over to some dogs and try to get them to play, but in typical lurcher fashion her play growls are sometimes not understood by her target! She no longer bristles at every bigger dog we meet, but is still cautious. She adores the freedom of racing around the big grassy areas, just for fun. A friend make a very funny comment when we described how she would at first sit on her tail and snarl when she met boys: "Oh, she's a good Catholic girl then!"
Tomorrow we go for a walk in the New Forest, and Thursday morning she goes for her op.

Great to hear that Lizzie is continuing to blossom Can just imagine Caspar teetering on the brink of playing but not quite going with the flow! Enjoy the New Forest walk tomorrow. Will be thinking of Lizzie on Thursday. Hope all goes smoothly. Audrey x

Today we went to the New Forest, and as we started early to help my daughter with something on the way, we arrived at the Red Shoot 3/4 of an hour early, so went for a walk up through Appleslade. She was very interested in the squirrels she spotted, but was not off lead so had to contain her excitement. Dogmad joined us for lunch, (always super food there), along with his Jenny, Monty, and Murphy the red setter. When we arrived at Bumpersmum's we discoverd the others couldn't make it. We enjoyed a good walk under cloudy blue skies, and not very wet underfoot. Lizzie had a good long run after rabbits with Monty, and though they ran quite a way off, she came back readily enough after a sniff around. She was not particularly interested in the Ponies or the Cows out grazing, but seemed very interested in the Pigs, maybe she hasn't met them before? She kept young George in his place if he got too bouncy, so George spent most of the time playing with Monty.
I regret to report that she found something smelly to roll in, but most of it stuck to her lovely SLR collar, so I scrubbed it when we got home!
Early this evening a strange young man came into the house and she really barked at him. I don't think this was just "guard dog", because she has not barked at other visitors; I think this was the spectre of someone nasty in her past: young man 20/30yrs, short hair. She stayed in her crate out of his way, for quite a while. It was Mollie's no3 son, whom she has not met, but who naturally strides about the house with confidence. She will come to see that he is OK, but an interesting reaction to observe.

Sounds like a lovely day in the New Forest Also sounds as though Lizzie is 'finding her paws' and settling really well. Re barking at Mollie's #3 son - makes you wish they could sit and tell you all about their histories eh? Will be thinking of you all today Audrey x
