Tia has taken to mounting Slim in the last few days, presumably because she'd like him to acknowledge her as the alpha female (ha! fat chance! that's moi!). She's taking it to extremes at times: Chloe is altogether more chilled and sensible:

I an dumbfounded that Slim is still with the Rescue. He is stunning beyong belief. We have had offers, but we have to get it right for Slim. And am I right to think that he would like another dog around Val Preferably a girlie, not too dominant though.

Slim does love doggie companionship and no mistake. He is so friendly with all kinds of other dogs, big and small, that I don't think it matters whether it's a boy or a girl. He does like to play fast running games and will happily play tug of war and share toys with other dogs without becoming aggressive or possessive. Slim is also not food aggressive and waits patiently to be given his food with both our girls.
As you can see from the photos above, he is unphased by pushy females!

I just LOVE the photo of Tia 'asserting' herself! Girl-Power if I ever saw it Slim looks SO chilled about it, bless him! Totally agree Val and Jenny that it has to be got right for this lovely boy (as I know it is for every SLR dog) His Forever Sofa is out there somewhere ready to give this young fellow the happy, dog-and-love-filled home he so deserves. Yo! Slimbo

We think we've had a bit of a breakthrough with Slim. We started letting him off lead in the main part of Ringwood Forest one week ago and now Slim seems to understand we want him to stay near us and keep us in sight. He does just that, staying near our two girls, Chloe and Tia. Ringwood Forest covers a very large area, and Slim could have got himself very lost. Here I am standing on a high point of the Forest where there's an 8,000 year old Saxon burial mound: And here comes Slim and Tia up the slope to meet me when I whistled them to return to me. Muzzles on in the forest, because this is deer territory: This is a major advance for Slim, because when he arrived with us in January his recall was pretty erratic and letting him off lead often meant watching him disappear at speed into the distance! He has become even calmer in the house now he's able to enjoy much more free running exercise every day. His obedience levels have increased to the point where he'll sit, lie down, jump up into the car, return when whistled and sit for a treat pretty consistently. We're proud of him.

Was wondering if there's any advance yet on finding a Forever Sofa for young Slim?

Nope, not yet. Slim has been competing with the gorgeous puppies! He did give Bill and me a heart attack earlier today when he went missing in Ringwood Forest for 20 minutes! Bill texted me he couldn't find Slim this afternoon while I was at work.
I got a lift to the forest to help him look, but by the time I arrived, there was Slim and our two girlies looking at me from the back of our parked car. Ha! In the time (20 minutes) Bill was searching for him, Slim had nipped backwards and forwards along an adjoining forest track, been seen by at least 3 other dog walkers, visited the car park to check our car was still there, and returned along the track Bill was slowly retracing with another dog walker in tow who was looking after Slim because Slim appeared to have, er, 'adopted' him! HAHAHAHAHHA! This dog is one cool dude. I may keep him and get the husband adopted.
I'll write a new thread for Bill shortly.

Just back from a lovely couple of hours spent in Ringwood Forest this morning. Slim behaved impeccably well for Foster Mama and didn't run off once. Mind you, a pocketful of frankfurter sausage slices does have a certain alure.
Billy is housetrained, will take out rubbish, chop firewood, stack and empty the dishwasher, cooks and fetches cups of tea. He gives really nice lurcherish leans and cuddles too. Cleans. never.
Enquiries on a postcard via PMs please.

Here's Slim's update for Saturday, which must rank as one of the wettest days we've had here in Verwood, following back to back with Friday when it, er, rained all day. I'm fed up drying dogs and their coats and cleaning floors! Slim's had a good day though, and he's behaved very well. Here he is in one of his favourite places; Tia's basket: Slim is ready to go to his forever home now. His recall is pretty reliable, he meets and greets strange dogs with enthusiasm and respect, and leaves them when we call him away. He is reliably housetrained, enjoys a robust digestion and is very healthy. Slim eats anything you want to feed him. He doesn't countersurf. He walks politely on lead and travels perfectly in the car without the need for a dog guard. He doesn't need to be crated in the home unless that's what you want. He will come, sit and lie down when asked. He'll retrieve toys for you if you want. He is calm on lead when he sees our three free range chickens wandering about the garden and will walk through them without bothering about them. He's not frightened of the vaccuum, washing machine, or any other household gadgets. He collects post delivered through the letter box and does his best to open it for you. He is affectionate, kind and loving, and full of fun. He is very playful and can become excited. If he wants your attention, he'll grab a cushion and run off with it, or mouth your hand (gently) to make his point. When you fix his food, he sings in tune with joy. He waits politely to be served and is not food-aggressive with our other dogs. He doesn't mind being served last. He is not destructive with toys but he does like collecting shoes and taking them to his bed to keep. He is easy to handle and will allow you to wash and dry any part of him, trim his nails, examine his ears, look at his teeth without worrying. He will wear a muzzle and a coat if you want him to. His vaccinations, worming and de-fleaing treatments are up to date, he's neutered, and he's pretty easy on the eye. He answers to the names Slim, Slimbo, Slimbold, Jimbo, Ringo, Bingo and ooo-ooo. You could, in fact, change his name to whatever you want; Slim won't mind. He wants to stay here, but he needs to be a permanent part of someone else's household as the second dog (not on his own please, Slim doesn't like that). He's fine to be left for up to 3 hours with another dog without any separation anxiety. I hope I've covered everything I know about this lovely dog but if you have a question, please PM me. Slim is fine with all other dogs, male and female, big and small. He's not a dominant alpha male type and pretty much gets along with all other dogs. We think he's about 14 months old.
