The words Gentleman and Ben go together very well. Ben has been with us for just over a week and he is slowly finding his feet, he's taught Frankie a few things too! He is slowly finding his feet and gaining confidence. He has a great enthusiasm when a lead is picked up, doing a great demonstration of a pogo dance, but is just managing to do a short sit whilst his lead is attached It must be said he is a long dog and with his front paws on the top of the kitchen sides he could well reach a cup from the top shelf, never mind my bread and butter from the work top. I did manage to wrestle it back form him, only slightly chewed but Ben gave it back without a fuss, just disappointment that he had been caught. We guess that until he puts on the weight he needs he will remain very food orientated. He has now found the dog food cupboard and was found very quietly and sneakily trying to have an early breakfast. He's managed to turf us off a chair which is supposed to be dog free, both of us said that would never happen. Apparently when you look as cute as he does you can get away with quite a bit. Ben is good on a lead, he walks well and does not react to other dogs when encountered. He's a little shy of passing cars but just needs a little reassurance and will regain his confidence. Ben has now had 2 visitors. The first found it hard to get off the sofa and the second had more trouble getting off the door mat, such are Ben's cuddle demands. I think he may be a very large lap dog given the chance.

Lovely update. A loving and fun gentleman. Same as Jenny, relieved he did not come our way as I might have had to buy a bigger car! xxx

Fab update He is such a gent and his cuddles are the best. I love the way Ben's adopted your prized pink chair I can picture Frankie's face at that! The strumpet steals his chews and now Ben steals the furniture he hasn't been on! Lurchers have a way of making dog-free furniture not so

So lovely to hear how well Ben is doing. What a super dog he is turning out to be - 7 years is a great age, old enough to have a bit of sense but young enough to have a bit of speedy fun!

My thoughts exactly. He sounds like the perfect gentleman and is going to be a great companion for some lucky person.

Hi everybody, Ben had a post-op check today. His eye is perfect, his castration is perfect and his tail will be. The vet said, that as it is still very "wagable" he is beating it off the furniture, so we will have to keep it bandaged, but it is looking good. He has also put on some weight and has discovered a lovely neighbour called Lily, who is a little Jack Russell, who he wants to play with. The first time he has shown signs of playing. Frankie is a little full on for him. Frankie is 30 miles an hour with his legs like flag poles, so Ben just deals with him. He has to be on special food for a month because of his urine infection, but hopefully after that another test will tell us he has the all clear and can return to normal.

Great to read such good news about Gentleman Ben. Hope the tail continues to heal. Doesn't like it will take long for him to get his forever sofa š

Hi All, a little Ben update.
Firstly, he has turned into an inept thief. He has been caught trying to have a midnight feast by stealing the treat tin. However, knocking all the chopping boards onto the floor rather gave the game away!! He has also tried to be a lap dog, throwing himself gently on top of me in the arm chair. This didn't work either, as he managed to clear the coffee table of it's contents in the process, silly boy.
Ben had a vet check today and all is well. There is a tiny part of the tip of his tail which is still open, due to constant wagging. Therefore, a lighter dressing has been applied to let air get through and another check next week and a urine check too. Hopefully by then all will be healed.
Today Ben met our farrier, also called Ben. As soon as he walked through the gate it was love at first sight. He spent so much time playing and cuddling with Ben that he forgot to take his payment for trimming the donkey's hooves. Nice one Ben, the distraction tactics worked!!

When Rothko had "Happy Tail" I put a sort of long cone of bubblewrap around his tail, long enough to protect the end but open so that the air could get to it, held in place with gaffer tape further down the tail. It worked a treat and his tail healed without the (all too often) need for amputation. He did lose a few hairs when it was time to remove the tape, but they soon grew back. Ben sounds like a really lovable clumsy lump. Is Farrier Ben in the market for a 4-legged assistant?
