Wow, now Monty is officially part of our mad family!
He's such a lovely lad and seems to have decided to return to puppyhood by having mad toy throwing sessions. Gosh, when he plays and Jenny will know this, he is so very vocal making strange play growls of different intensity and very deep. I'm sure our neighbours think we're being attacked by "The new dog". However, we do need to stop somehow from rushing down the garden barking though because the other neighbour has to get up at 03.00 in the morning so last outdoors has to be worked on.
I'm looking around the room and I've got Brodie(9yr greyhound) on the sofa next to me, Finn (7yr) is curled up tightly in his "safe" corner with Kyla (6yr) upside down as usual, with her neck at the most ridiculous angle and Monty on the floor near my feet. Monty doesn't seem to do beds. It's so quiet. Philip is out delivering a young greyhound from the Pound near Jenny to Birmingham GP for a foster home and tomorrow it's a lurcher who needs a lift onwards to LSOS but we're only going to Ockham Common.
Monty is exactly the type of dog we wanted about 6 months after Smokey left us but couldn't find one. He "was meant to be" but we're mad having four dogs when we were going to reduce as they went to the Bridge and just foster in our retirement.
Well, it is time to go out again with a couple of them so cheerio from a very happy houndie home.

Dear Monty has had his first holiday with us when we escaped the dreadful noise of fireworks for 9 days in blissful Norfolk. We've been to this cottage before with the greyhounds as the lounge is huge and there's a large grassed area where they can have a mooch or run around.
It rained most days but it's so comfortable there and I was so tired that I enjoyed being lazy for a couple of the bad days. We went off to the dog friendly hotels, pubs and beaches. We're booked to go back up next year and wish it would come along sooner.
Monty seems fairly settled but our neighbour says he does howl like a wolf for a few minutes when we go out which is a shame as he has 3 greyhounds to keep him company. When anyone just glances his way Monty gets so excited and just loves everyone but we must cure the jumping up to greet them! So pleased "Fate" found him for us but can't foster anymore now.

Ideas please as we've not had a "barky" dog before.
Monty has always barked at dogs he sees out and about and now has developed this into barking at them from inside the car. Starting to look for dog classes/trainer around Watford area.

Welcome to the world of barkers! Rowlf gets a treat when he walks past dogs quietly and gets pulled away with no treat or spoken word if he reacts. We haven't tackled the in car barking yet! He is getting so much better since we started working with trainer Gavin who is socialising Rowlf with other dogs in controlled conditions. You could also use a clicker (a) to distract him from the dog he wants to bark at or (b) as a cue for reward when he behaves. Good luck. It is a long slow process.
