Monty doesn't seem to know he's been castrated and has been as good as gold. He loves life and is a very happy chappie who wants to play at times but is so happy to have a snooze and sometimes he snores. He's getting used to being in the car and seems settled there now. We've been out for a walk this morning and we're trying to work on stopping him barking when he sees some other dogs. Our greyhounds tend to be quiet so any help would be gratefully received!
It might be that his owner couldn't walk him much so he's not used to being on the lead and had a great time playing with other dogs in paddocks at Teresa's boarding kennels. (She's happy to chat to anyone who wants to rehome him because she likes him so much and he stayed there about 6 months)
Monty doesn't go for big soft beds or cushions but wants to lie on the carpet and it was the same when kennelled. He likes to be in the hall which is narrow and in front of a doorway, just to be helpful! He wanders into the kitchen and hasn't stolen anything, sleeps well, has a little play, likes his food and has been clean from day one.
He's a great companion so someone is going to be very lucky and SLR are going to have him for a week while we go on holiday so that he's available to meet people. I hope a queue starts soon as it'd be great to see him settled before we go away with our hounds.

On Sunday Monty joined other lurchers and lots of greyhounds for the Greyhounds Walk saunter at Chipperfield Common, north of Watford. It is a lovely area and can get a bit busy at weekends but we were very lucky so not too many off lead dogs around and lovely in the woods. Monty seemed to enjoy the company of so many dogs having loads to say hallo to with reciprocal sniffs.
We went to a bar/café just off the common for a sit in the sun that had managed to peek through by then and had a chat with a friend. These walks are so relaxing with the dogs seeming to enjoy each others company but Monty finds it a bit strange at the moment so didn't sit down. He'll get used to social events.

Oh, these hairy hounds do seem to have wonderful characters and we're smitten, although we tried not to be as there's no way 2 people in their 67th year can take on a 5th dog! He's coping very well after being suddenly deposited in boarding kennels for six months and then whipped away by two people he didn't know but then arrived in a home with 4 greyhounds. He lived all his life as an only dog from a pup with his lady owner and has been with us 12 days.
It's so hot today, about 32c in the shade and Monty gets hot at the best of times so he chooses to lie on the floor and we've got a "Cool Coat" on him. They're the ones that are like chamois leather, wet them and they keep the dog cool for about 4 hours without making them wet. If we're going to have episodes of really hot, humid days like this I'm going to buy another one to make three.
Gosh, I hope it's not hot like this when we take the dogs to Kent for their holiday.

Monty would fit in our pack beautifully I am sure but alas we have to win the lottery before taking on another dog. He sounds like an ideal house guest.

I had an email from Megan (my daughter) yesterday. She had seen Monty on the "Oldies" site and thought he was gorgeous. She failed to notice he was SLR, so was interested to hear more about him! So I'm sure he will soon find a home, unfortunately not with Megan, unless she wins the lottery and can give up work!!

Oh dear, I thought as "he already had interest" when he first came to SLR the lad would be off to a home by now. Please don't think he's an Old Dog because Monty doesn't comply with that. He plays energetically, has learnt what toys are for and has the most tremendous "tug" growl and races up and down the stairs. He loves walks and doesn't run out of steam as quickly as the greyhounds but a new owner must take things slowly with everything as being in kennels and with an owner who wasn't well, he needs building up strength and weight. The humidity has dropped in Watford, SW Herts. over the last two days which has suited dear Monty so he's playing more, trying to get on your lap for more cuddles, roaching which really funny as it takes him around the room! Come on people, stop snapping up all the Youngsters and give Monty a chance.

Hi there This is my first post on the forum. so a big hello. I've sadly just lost my lurcher to lung cancer and I am now looking for a companion. I think Monty could be the dog I am looking for,but I cannot believe he as not been snapped up. If you would be kind enough to contact me if you have any further information. I live in the Midlands and have had lurchers for over 20 years. Regards Wayne
