Another peaceful night here. Elvis is ready to get up when we move around, but not clamouring to get out of his crate. I do think a crate at bedtime is good for these very busy dogs. They have to settle down and "switch off" because they are confined, so everyone gets a good night's sleep. India slept in one every night with us, and actually went to it and settled down without having to be told.
Although I took him straight out to the garden when we first got up, and he did a long wee, he then did a poo in the hall while I was making the tea....even though I'd left the back door ajar. I told him off and cleared it up, so let's hope it was just a mistake. Happily the weather has been fine here so we have left the back door open all the time, and he has gone out whenever he needed to. Interestingly he has mostly chosen to go on hard surfaces rather than the grass....maybe he only has a paved yard to go in before.
Yesterday afternoon we tried letting him off lead for a short time and we're pleased to find he has quite good recall, as long as he has finished saying hello to the latest dog. This morning on our walk I let him off for some much longer stretches and his recall to the whistle and my cell was excellent. He played and ran around with small dogs very well, but occasionally Hugo and Lorna started a "get Elvis" session which I broke up as I didn't want them to take it too far and frighten him. As a result he has been lying down a bit more since we came home, until one of us moves, then he has to get up to see what we're up to! He usually lies down close to one of us, even on your foot sometimes, and he seems to be more latched onto me than Mollie.
This is my bed under the kitchen table. It's nice and cosy, and near to my people....

Yep, we have found the crate so useful for the collie x's. They have to settle down. Brilliant news on the recall. All credit to his relinquishing dad.

Effie found her own way out of her's when she first came here. I haven't made her go in it since, but it wasn't long before she went in there on her own ... although I never tried closing the door on her as there was no need.

Oh lordy, dordy! Met this lovely boy for a walk on the heath with K&M and...he's a little belter! Very steady for a pup, friendly, but respectful and eager to please. Off lead, he mooched about, and had a little run about, all gangly legs but not manic. Alfie was (AMAZINGLY!!) non-plussed by him for most of the walk, just chased when Elvis ran full tilt in a sandy area. After a brief spell back on lead, we let Alfie off again, and he jogged along again with little Elvis no bother. The photo's don't do him justice, so I hope Keith manages to upload some of the little videos he took of Elvis running around. I'm a little bit smitten!

Here are 3 snaps from this afternoon's walk. The trouble is he doesn't stay still for long!
I tried to get some video of his lovable gangly running...
And Recall Too!

Are we going to meet Elvis at Manor Farm on Sunday? Sorry, but Elvis will be travelling to his new home on Saturday, so by Sunday he will be playing in a garden in Cambridgeshire.

After another peaceful night in his crate, this morning when I took him out to the garden I waited after his long wee, and sure enough he obliged with a poo too. That's the way to do it! Then he was allowed to rush back inside and up to have a cuddle on the bed with Mollie. On our morning walk I let him off lead a lot more, and although he wants to rush all over the field and say hello to everything on four legs, his recall was good.
He is more relaxed today, and so the inquisitive puppy is emerging, trying out everything around him, or in waste paper baskets, with his teeth. He does understand NO! And we have plenty of dog toys about that he can chew to his heart's content I went out shopping this morning, and Mollie reports that he turned into a little terror...just like an over-tired child, so she sat down for a while with him on her lap, stroking his tummy. Stroking his tummy does definitely calm him, so by the time I came home he greeted me happily, while Mollie grumbled about the time he had made her waste!
Since I came back he has been following me everywhere, and when I sit down he lies down really close to my feet and doses off. It's almost enough to make me doze off too!

This little pup has generated so much interest. Six applications came in. Hopefully he will love his new family to be. I must admit I am a bit taken by him myself! And I said I would never do another collie x again- Tag!!! Paperwork will be done today.
