Just a quick update, I will post more on Friday when I have more time.
Little Saffie continues to thrive. She enjoys playing with the younger dogs and is beginning to realise she has to be respectful to the more mature hounds.
She is very typical of a young rescue dog who has previously been deprived of food. We are feeding her 3 times a day, but I think she would happily eat every hour. I know that once she realises that food will always be available to her every day, in large enough quantities, she will start to relax, but at the moment she is totally food orientated.
She still requires house training, but she is good most of the time during to day but cannot go overnight at the moment. It is very early days and taking into account the sort of upbringing she must have experienced previously she is doing very well.
I can't emphasise how beautiful and loving this little girlie is, she is so cuddley I could spend the whole day just watching what she gets up to.
She is absolutely non aggessive to people and other dogs. She is adorable.
I will post again on Friday with photos.

I am so glad Saffie is doing okay, I am sure it won't be long before she is fully toilet trained and not so food orientated.

She must wonder what is going on poor girl but be so pleased to be with you and know there is food and love for her now.

I can vouch for her beauty. She is petite, whippety and very loving, even clinging like a little limpet. Chewing feet can also be associated with anal glands Might be best to get it checked.

Have you any reason to believe she is deaf? Try making a quiet but distinctive noise either side of her head if you think she may be deaf in either or both ears. Her LEFT eye appears from the top picture to be 'pie eyed' and the right to be either 'wall' or 'china'. Can't really tell from the angle at which the picture was taken. I once had a pure (brilliant) white cat with heterochromia*. one blue eye and one yellow. He was NOT deaf in either ear. The predominance of deafness in white coated dogs tends to be Dalmations and Bull Terriers (Not Staffies) A high preponderance of Blue Merle Collies have wall eyes and are usually NOT deaf. A blue eye with brown or dark flecks in the iris is known as 'Wall eyed' and a blue eye with white flecks is known as 'China eyed'. Blue iris with black section is ,I think, called 'Pie eyed' *Heterochromia is when mammalian eyes are of different colours in the same animal (or human).e.g.: Siberian Huskies often have a wall eye and a normal brown eye. Saffie's eyes are pale blue and darker blue in the middle. She definately has deafness, approx 80% I would say. My other dog Fiver is also deaf, but she only went deaf last year at the age of 10 years. The fact that Saffie is deaf, does not impact negatively against her in anyway at all. In fact until it is mentioned we don't even think about it. If she is out of sight and I want her to come I whistle very loudly, she probably always hears it but if she is after a rabbit she chooses to ignore it just like all my other lurcher do.

I found that certain pitches she seemed to hear when I was with her in the car, if I talked to her with a really high pitch she would prick up her ears, when I called my husband using the speaker phone she again pricked up her ears, so as Elaine says she does have some limited hearing. I found that she watched my hands so I think that she might pick up sign language really well

What a difference two weeks can make to a rescued dog. Little Saffie has come on so much. Her coat has much improved and I hope she has put on weight. Pinky and Billy have taught her how to play and are possibly now regretting it as she could play for England. Fortunately for Pinky and Billy she is not as fast as they are and can't always keep up. Everything has been going really well, she is such a loving happy little dog it is a real pleasure to look after her. She loves to sit and cuddle on your lap in the evening and is so affectionate. Her house training has come on enormously and apart from the occasional puddle she is nearly there. We are off to the vets tomorrow for second vaccination and to see if she has put on enough weight for the microchip and neutering. The photos of Saffie really do not do her justice, she is truly beautiful. I can't think of anything negative to say about her. By the way, this may sound strange, but her hearing appears to be improving! It is difficult to explain, almost as if no one had ever spoken to her before and she did not know how to react to her name etc. We will of course keep monitoring it and I will mention to the vet again tomorrow. With 6 dogs in the house atm they sometimes have to double up. So pretty Snuggling with Pinky and Fiver Such long legs She is still skinny but nowhere near what she was like when she came in

I agree with Sara she does look a little like a mini Ibiza\Pharoah hound but she is very very petite. Whatever she is she is beautiful and loving in mind and spirit. She was at the vets yesterday and had her second vax, she was so brave and such a good girl. The vet tested her hearing, but said there are many types of deafness in dogs, and it was difficult to say what type of hearing Saffie had. She hears but she does not seem to know where the sound is coming from. She weighed in at 13.10kg. She is still so skinny, although it does not look like it in her photos. She eats so much more than any of the other dogs, which is amazing considering how little she is. Saffie will back at the vet for neutering on Thursday - I am sure she will be very brave and soon bounce back to her usual puppy gorgeous self.
