So glad to hear the "grotty botty" has cleared up.
I'm certainly looking forward to collecting the lovely Riley on Wednesday and the adventure of owning my first Lurcher starts then!
Thanks to everyone involved in looking after Riley and all the other rescue dogs. I'll keep you informed of his progress and mine!!

Riley's just got back from his morning walk and is stretched out on his duvet. He had a long walk yesterday and loved the farmland and new smells. He had a quiet night and after being pushed off the bed where he'd deposited himself at bedtime settled down and didn't move despite Helen getting up for work at 6.00 until I got up at 7.30.
He's started rolling around on his back asking for tummy rubs and keeps trying to sneak onto the sofa. He's also starting to show an interest in toys but not for long.
He'll be out and about with me later today and visiting a couple of clients so we'll see how he responds to that!

Aaaww, lovely to hear Riley has slotted in perfectly into his forever home - just perfect! Needless to say you will be a very happy boy, Riley! But one of the first things you need to teach your mum and dad is the need for a sofa JUST FOR YOURSELF (it's compulsory!) We very much look forward to hearing about your adventures as a new lurcher owner , Rob - don't forget we ALL had to start some time......... ;D HAVE FUN!!! ;D Viviane. X

Well Riley is finding his feet now and we've found he's got a very waggy tail. We think he's settling in and is realising this is his forever home. He's even showing an interest in toys now, but mainly enjoys sleep.
I left him with the run of the kitchen for 30 minutes yesterday and he sang after I locked the front door but was stretched out quietly on his bed when we got home.
He's very interested in small furries so that could become entertaining. We met loads of dogs on a walk this morning including some greyhounds and a lurcher from Celia Cross. He seems a bit nervous and growly when he first meets new dogs but with a bit of stroking and talking to soon settles. He spent all of todays walk with Murphy a Newfoundland and was quite happy to ignore him once the greetings were over. He did jump up and down and bark when Murphy went for a swim so we think he might like that.
Everyone who meets him loves him and he's really sociable around people. We haven't tried off the lead yet, we'll give him another week with us working on his name and keeping his attention then try him in an enclosed field near us.
He sits and waits for food and doesn't eat until given permission (Thanks MarK and Donna) and when he sees his lead he gets very excited but sits without telling for it to be attached.
He's fast asleep now. Give him half an hour and he'll be after some fuss and trying to climb on the sofa.

Hi, We've had Riley a week now and it seems like he's been here forever. He couldn't really be better in the house. Sleeps on his beds around the house and we can see a difference every day. After 3 days he started to wag his tail and spends most of his time on his back asking for tummy rubs. This makes playing difficult because he rolls onto his back rather than joining in the game. He's learning about toys and starting to carry them around and take them with him when he changes room and as long as he can see one of us he's happy. (It doesn't seem to matter which one of us). We've left him for just over an hour and he settles quickly giving a bit of a howl the first time he was left but now just getting on his bed and staying there until we get back. He got a ride on a small boat yesterday when I visited a client and though he sat very close to me seemed quite happy, showing a lot of interest in their cat and the swans but not chasing. I don't think he'll be cat friendly though. Our only problem is when on the lead he gets a bit "frisky" growling and barking at other dogs. I'm not sure if this is aggression or wanting to play. At first I thought aggression but after a long chat with Mark (his ) I'm a lot happier and think it's mainly excitment but I think rude yapping dogs wont be given much time. Riley will be seeing a few new dogs tomorrow and we'll see how he handles that, he was very noisy with a Retreiver this morning but just wanted to play and then pretty much ignored another dog he met so it may be me relaxing helping him to settle. Any advice on how to keep his attention would be appreciated. He'll sit in the garden and wait until called (most of the time!) but as you back away from him he just looks around at trees, the sky, bushes, grass and anything else that isnt me! I've tried treats but possibly not the right ones.

Yes, you've just got to try different flavoured treats till you hit on the "right" one! I've found it frustrating when the new foster isn't inspired by the treats the last one raved about. Strong flavours, like fish, seem to work...... Cut up Schmackos can be good....cocktail sausages which you can buy ready cooked in the supermarket, are very popular, but all the other dogs will think so too!...
Good luck.

Carole and Mick gave me a good tip the other day. They buy the hard cooked sausages from Pets at home, they smell lovely, and they cut them into treat sizes. The smell really wafts and the dogs love them. I got a box on special at the weekend for our lot.
