I've just caught up with this thread and, oh my, what a gorgeous little hound Riley is! How tall (or should I rather say how small) is Riley, please? Viviane. X

More stuff from the MaD house! ;D Riley is doing really well, so its time for a bit more in the way of an update. He is 26" to the shoulder and weighed in at 24.8 Kilos. Overall he is in good shape and although he suffered a minor injury in the past, it doesn't appear to be giving him any trouble. We think that he will make a really good 'only' dog as he doesn't show any inclination to play with the girls even when he's invited, he does however, greet them with enthusiasm in the mornings. (A case of 'wherever I hang my hat', me thinks) I would say that he is more of a 'mans' dog as he is following me everywhere so there is a risk of 'over bonding' which might cause some SA issues, but he's pretty intelligent so it should be 'workable'. Off lead he's pretty happy just to walk with me and when I stopped and called him back he came at a run On lead he will pull but only if you let him, and he does have a fancy for chasing rabbits and squirrels, but then show me a Lurcher that doesn't In fact, show me any dog that doesn't ;D Will get some better pictures but here are a few to keep you going! (Where's that collar maker when you need him?) ;D Think he quite likes the girls!

Here is Riley: And here is little Elmer - Is it just me or can anybody else see how very similar they are? They have the same saluki eyes, 'beauty spots' and masks The next two pics from Barney, when he was fostering little Elmer: Okay, Riley is a different colour and about 3ins. taller than little Elmer (who might have been the runt of the litter), but they are the same age and just look like they are brothers! They seem to hold their head in a similar manner, and their mouth is very similar. They even have the same long tail, can you see? And like Riley, Elmer is a submissive and gentle little hound. Would be interesting to hear what others think, Mark and Donna, but we think you might be fostering little Elmer's brother! I am going to watch Riley's thread and see if there any more characteristics as Riley's personality unfolds. Viviane. X

I see what you mean Vivianne, but I think both boys show classic saluki cross characteristics, such as the widow's peak, the long tail, head shape, etc.
Of course, it is possible they could be related, but I think it's more likely they are a similar cross, and both have saluki blood in them.

Auntie Alyson (our wonderful vet) popped in today and got treated to a full on Lurcher lean from Riley. ;D He does have some very nasty bruising and some minor infection after his castration (not done my Auntie A) and needs a bit more crate rest and ABs. He's also sporting a very fetching pink buster collar. The good news is that he has visitors on Friday.

I met this lovely leaner yesterday. If I had moved he would have fallen over! He was still sporting a very fetching pink buster collar but when that is off he is going to be a total cuddle monster. He greeted Nero with enthusiasm (much to Nero's dismay - he is scared of dogs in buster collars! ) so I think he will be fine with other male dogs. ;D Can't see how his visitors could not fall in love with him. ;D

Sorry folks, been a bit busy this week and have spent too long drooling over the pictures of Lollipop ;D Part 1 Riley is doing pretty well after the problems with his castration. It seems that he had a mild bacterial infection in the wound which was stopping it knitting together, so he's been on AB's and we're happy to say that its knitted He still has a fair amount of blood in his sac which his body is slowly absorbing but he needs to be rested so that it doesn't shift to quickly. He'll have to wear the 'lampshade' for a bit longer so he doesn't open the wound again but only until Monday, after that it'll be gentle lead walks for a short while just to give the bruising a chance to finally clear. Part 2 Riley had visitors today and we're happy to announce that he will be going to his forever home next week The lovely Rob and Helen will be his new Dad and Mum and we're hoping that they will join the forum and give us updates on his progress in the coming weeks. We'll post piccys of the happy occasion when they come and collect him
