Slim came into the Rescue via one of our astute Rescue members seeing him in holding kennels when she went to do her voluntary dog walking for the kennels. He had served almost all his seven days and it was bitter and freezing. It wasn't long before Jayne tracked down the appropriate Authority responsible for Slim's welfare and negotiate his release. Snow stopped proceedings for a couple of days but thanks to dedication and a 4 x 4 a transport run was arranged up to Audrey, his now foster mum. Slim is thought to be approximately 2 years old, but when they have had a hard life it is hard to tell as the tartar from cereal food builds up on their teeth. He has had a bath and has scrubbed up well. Being such a good boy for his foster mum. We can't thank you enough Audrey for taking in Slim, so soon after losing your beloved Willow. Thank you. Well here he is folks. He's a tall lad, approx 27" at the shoulder, and looks fully grown. As the days unfold I am sure that Audrey will add any little foibles, needs, wants for Slim in finding his new forever home. I am sure Audrey will be putting up some updates and photos soon.

We popped in to visit Audrey and Slim at the weekend just after his intrepid escape from the kennels through the snow. We got a few pics, probably not showing his best side, as he was still quite stressed after his journey and being in strange surroundings and strange people (not to mention nosey whippets!). He is a beautiful young lad. Lovely velvet ears and pretty saluki eyeliner

Sorry but I have only just found this thread, didn't realise it had been posted Thank you all for your lovely comments about me fostering Slim. It's one of those reciprocal situations where I feel that Slim and I were both able to help each other out, he needed to get out of kennels and into a warm bed and I needed to begin to edge very delicately back into the world of having a doggy-housemate. I have gained a huge amount from the week with Slim and he gained a warm bed + cuddles. As most of you will be aware, sadly it didn't work out for Slim and me with regard my work at home and so tomorrow he is on his way to the New Forest to join Val. [Many, many thanks Val for stepping in, you are a star] I absolutely know that Slim is heading somewhere he will be very well loved and cared for. He will have doggy company and the chance to take the time he needs to settle into home life ( not to mention to eat the homemade tuna and Parmesan training treats Val has cooked for him! ) I wish you well little fellow

Yes Carla, I believe you will indeed see the handsome Slim at the weekend Well, today young Slim set off on an expedition to his new foster placement at Val's. I did the first leg of a three-leg journey and met up with Gilly, who had mega-kindly offered to do the middle section of the trip. The handover went smoothly, if a bit tearfully However Slim looked very at home in Gilly's Range Rover and it was definitely more his style than my Kia! See below: I do hope that the rest of the journey went well Gilly and Val and I very much look forward to hearing how Slim settles in. Thanks Gilly for doing such a brilliant job today. Am so glad you got to meet the little fellow + got your Slim cuddles as ordered. Thank you also for being so understanding about how I was feeling. And thanks again Val. I do hope that those chickens of yours will retain their feathers longterm

Thanks to Audrey and Gilly, the whole of today's transport went very smoothly. I arrived home with Slim about 2.30 and Bill and Chloe joined us for a short walk in a nearby nature reserve to introduce Slim to Chloe. Chloe was very good and incredibly tolerant, until the young boy overstepped the botty sniffing mark. Chastened, he walked along very politely behind Chloe and by the time we returned home, both dogs had enjoyed the chance to sniff each other and look each other over. Chloe decided he can stay. As Audrey has said, he did enjoy his tuna and Parmesan oatbakes, which he took very politely. He did also help Gilly and I scoff our sandwiches at our meeting point. He's toileted in the garden where he should, and there's only been one small scent marking in the house. He's scoffed nearly a whole jointed rabbit, several sprats and a goodly portion of beef tripe. And some more tuna and Parmesan oatbake. And a couple of stinky stick treats. And some yoghurt. I thought I'd starve him today, you see! Heeheehee. Excuse the poor quality of these first two photos at home but I'd already had my first glass by then! His behaviour is extraordinarily smart and I have much to say on it. However, that will have to wait for tomorrow as I have to go and slave over a hot Billy, who is cooking my supper .... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! He and Chloe are off to meet Tinks tomorrow.

It was a pleasure to meet both Audrey and Val today, Slim is absolutely gorgeous and he is a very smart doggie. I met Audrey and Slim was confident and happy to get in to my car Then he traveled very well, well encouraged by the odd biscuit ha ha ha ;D We got to the meet point for Val a little earlier so went for a walk, he has a lovely walk and stride and didn't pull on the lead Val got us hot chocolate and sandwiches (thanks loads hun), Slim was a little tempted to push his luck but when asked to sit he did, so we could only share our lunch with him I am so glad that Chloe has accepted him, he's going to get a great foster doggie Val. (Good luck with Tinks tomorrow ) I have a couple of piccies to down load but at the moment I have Ollie laying over my lap as he came in from the garden 10 mins ago with a 1" hole on his shoulder Looks like I'm off to the vets first thing in the morning. Love Gilly x
