Thank you so much for another lovely update Val. I have been thinking about all of you on and off all today, wondering how it was going with Tia arriving to join the 'pack'. I am SO pleased that there already seems to be a bonding and an acceptance of pack order between the three of them; quite amazing how, given a good introduction, they can work it out so quickly. Slim is such a confident young dog in so many ways and so full of life and energy that methinks it won't do him any harm at all to know his place below the two girls! If he was with a mousy little girl I think there could be a chance that he may well get a tad too big for his boots (do lurchers wear boots?!) Clearly no danger of that with Chloe and Tia ;D With all the exercise and excitement of the day I'd guess there will be a good night's sleep all round at your house tonight! Hope tomorrow dawns well for you all and do please keep those updates coming.

Thanks for a lovely update on Slim and accompanying piccies, Val. I met little Tia on several occasions and found her a wonderful little girl - great to see she is perfectly slotting into her new family and enjoying the company of your girl and Slim. Judging from your piccies, they all look very happy and well tired. Look forweard to seeing you all again, hopefully during our next SLR walk which should not be too far in the future....... Viviane. Lovely update Val. Like the glass of white wine. I have a red one tonight. I am not delivering Slim looks totally at home with you guys. I think sometimes a lurcher just needs another lurcher around. Some of them are just not happy unless they are in pairs, or threes.

What a wet day we've had here in Verwood. The garden is flooded, and it's been cold and wet all day. The chickens finally went in to roost absolutely bedraggled but nevertheless having laid us two eggs. Eggy breakfasts all round tomorrow, as we have nine eggs in hand today. Chloe, Tia and Slim have had a blast, weather or no weather. We enjoyed a few cold muddy splashes or two running all three dogs in an enclosed field early this morning. Then, off we set for the rest of our walk in Potterne Woods with Tia off lead for the first time. She and Chloe stuck together beautifully, and Slim showed just how very politely he can walk on the lead. Breakfast back at home was raw minced chicken & pheasant carcass mixed with raw minced carrot, swede, rocket, watercress, spinach, mint & raw porridge oats. All three dogs scoffed their share in the kitchen together with no cross words, [though Bill and I policed them carefully, of course]. It was quite noticeable today that Slim was much more relaxed, and all three dogs enjoyed a good sleep after their breakfast. We popped out again briefly at lunchtime but it was still so wet and cold that I wrapped Slim in Saffie's fleece because he seemed a bit cold to me. This boy does not like rain! Once we lit the woodburning stove, Slim's fleece came off and he started sparring with Tia while Bill cooked supper. Offered a turn round the waterlogged garden, the two youngster fled out into the dark and started a high speed mud-wrestling match which lasted a good 10 minutes. I'm still wiping the splatter marks off the conservatory floor and furniture. Supper was chicken carcass and rabbit joints. Mmmmm, lurcher heaven! Here's the boy wrapped in a fleece: And here's when they wrestled over Tia's beloved Eeyore: Looks like Slim won [but Eeyore has lost his tail!]

oooops! Forgot to tell you about Slim's aversion to rain Val, apologies - he really doesn't like it does he? Nearly pulled my arm out of it's socket belting back into the house when he felt the first drop! So great to hear that the three dogs are continuing to have such a good time together. You and Bill and Chloe deserve medals, if not sainthoods, for giving Tia a lovely new home and offering young Slimbo Jimbo a chance to settle into your household along with doggy company. Poor Eyeore! Is he going to have a tail transplant? Have a good night's sleep and here's to a great weekend for you all

It sounds as if Slim would be an ideal partner for Ianto - IF I was going to have another one, which I'm not (would but can't ) Another cream male would mean I'd need another small shiny black girl to go with Zena - just to keep things nicely balanced. We've already discovered that a super-kingsize bed isn't big enough for two lurchers - well it is for them, but not for two people as well Then there's the additional problem that I've already lost my heart to Skippy, which would mean two more shiny girlies to find No way am I letting my two anywhere near this thread or they'll be complaining that I don't feed them properly. You're giving Slim very high expectations for aomeone else to live up to Yep, I remember a time when I said that!!!

Hiya Slim fans! Thanks for all your great encouragement; it's much appreciated. Slim has had another fab day with his two girlies. He had his free-running exercise this morning without a muzzle and THE BOY DONE GOOD. Another piece of progress has been made because he, Tia and Chloe got on just as well without Slim being muzzled. No-one overstepped the mark, and after a half-hour blast, all three of us set off on a further one hour walk round Crane Lake and Moors Valley Golf Course - all part of Moors Valley Country Park. Tia and Chloe were off lead, and Slim stays on lead for this part of the walk because there are no boundaries and his recall is not good enough for that yet - he'd be in the rough before we could stop him! Tia likes helping birds to fly by chasing them . She spotted a big black crow about to take off a few yards away and charged. As she neared the shiny bird's increasing flight, she took off with a gigantic leap into the unknown. She landed in the lake, much to her surprise. [Was it cold? I think so.] Hey, this girl can swim really well, even unexpectedly. HAHAHAHAHA! My heart did skip a beat, I admit, but she swam back to the edge, got out, shook off the water and raced back to us with a big grin on her face. Chloe looked on sagely with a "bet you know better now" look on her face. Slim, at first disappointed he'd not been able to join in, seemed very pleased to have avoided a ducking. THIS BOY DOES NOT LIKE WATER.
On tonight's menu, we had oxtail. This slows the dogs down and makes them work their jaws for about half an hour before they can finish, usually. Except if you're Tia, of course, for she finished in 10 minutes! Her jaws could crack a walnut by looking at it so we will be renting her out at Christmas time, methinks.
After eating comes playtime, which involved racing up and down the garden at high speed in the dark, then this:
I'm showing you the peaceful part of the day. Remember, if you pick a young lurcher like this you will acquire a smart, loving, active 'big puppy' which still likes to mouth in play. Potential adopters should seek advice from us if they're not sure how to stop a dog from mouthing. Slim means no harm and is full of love. A household with small children may not be suitable for Slim just yet, though he has the potential to be a fantastic family dog. He is, at present, co-dependent on there being other dogs in the household as he needs the reassurance of another dog to help him understand household routines.

Bill and I enjoyed a first today. We both got lurchered. We were running all three of our pack in an enclosed field when boof! Slim and Tia pulled Val off her feet because they thought they'd been let off lead when Val was still actually struggling with the soppy stiff clippy thingy and; A few minutes later, Billy was splatted onto his back by Slim and Tia who were so intent on their lurcher race! I had a muddy butt and Bill escaped visual blame by falling on a dryish bit of the field with a few fallen leaves on it. However, I did make Billy cook supper by way of compensation for my muddy jeans needing to go in the wash. Slim has had another good day, being a good clean boy in the house and always asking [silently, by standing by the door] when he needs to go out. Tomorrow, Slim is off to visit our lovely vet and get his second vaccination completed. He will also be weighed and booked in for neutering. Tia's had new batteries fitted. Chloe's tired and has already gone to bed. Here's Slim tonight: Tia had a fab day and is very tired. I did say to her she should pose for tonight's picture but she was too tired:

What great playmates they make for each other! Well done Val and Bill for taking on Slim and Tia - so happy to hear Tia has settled in well. Slim sounds like he is coming on well and will make a lovely hound for someone. Great pics.
