All right then, Skippy has been with us for a week now and we think that we can give some kind of assessment on his character and his progress. First off I'd like to thank everyone who has shown concern for his wellbeing and all those people who have been putting items up for fund-raising. Its great to see SLR people rallying to the cause and reminds me of why I like this forum so much Good work people and 'dig deep', "its all for charity mate" Skippy has shown great progress this week and we are happy to report that the lad is really bouncing back from what must have been a bit of a 'close call'. He is beginning to place more weight on the 'broken' leg and less on the other, which is greatly improving the condition of his rear right hock. We've not noticed it 'turning' for a few days now which hopefully means that the hock is getting stronger. As far as the break is concerned, we are able to flex the leg pretty much normally but he has not done this on his own yet, although he is getting some nice stretches in and he is starting to be able to sit for his meals. We are walking him for five minutes every hour as instructed and he is fine with that as long as we don't go too fast! if we do he just 'hops'. His wound is healing nicely so we should be 'all systems go' for stitch removal on Saturday. Hopefully we will be able to take him off the Metacam then but we will see what the vet thinks. Skippy will be on five minutes walk for the next three weeks by which time the bone should be knit and we'll be able to 'step up' his fitness program. As far as character is concerned, we think that there may be a little greyhound in him as he seems to be a very laid back kind of guy although that may be down to him being on 'cage rest' for long stretches. He is starting to be a puppy again and we think that he wasn't kept in a home enviroment as he is interested in everything that we do and everything that he can get his paws on, including boots which he takes great delight in nickin' We had a break-through last night in that he chose to spend the evening in his crate instead of the tub bed! Way to go Skippy! He's pretty good on the lead but we're not sure about his recall yet, although he does follow us if he can, he's also very polite and waits for us to go first through doorways etc. Overall I think that this little chap is going to make a fab companion for someone and so far it has been a total pleasure to have him around the MaD house M

Wonderful update. He has come on so lovely. The vet that operated on him phoned last night and asked how he was doing. I have emailed them the link to this page, so if peeps want to say thank you to Richard Williams, Super Vet, Cinqueport Veterinary Practice, can't say which branch in case he is inundated, then you can tell him here.

Skippy had his stitches out this morning and Aunty Alyson said he's looking goooooood ;D The next phase is to keep him weight bearing on the leg to minimise the muscle atrophy. So lots of short, slow walks.

End of week two and time for another update.......... This week I have been mainly in my crate, AGAIN!Skippy is doing pretty good as you can see At the moment he is climbing the walls as he so desperately wants to get out and 'Yeee- Haaw' but we are managing to keep him relativley calm and relaxed, but he so wants to be the puppy that he is I would guess that he has had very little experience of a home and behaves like a pup much younger than his 9 months He's putting more weight on now that we have treated him for another dose of worms and his bald bits are growing new fur. The scar is healing nicely and hopefully it won't show up under his fur as he's pretty white already ;D He's managing to carry more weight on the broken leg and he's getting his paw right on the ground now so hopefully we'll be good to start stepping up his walking in ten days time

Bless him. It's hard work keeping a puppy quet at the best of times, let alone when they have pins in their legs. Well done Donna and Mark.

He is soooooo gorgeous And he's amazingly like Ianto. If their personalities are anything like each other, I don't envy you trying to keep him quiet *slaps wrist* Don't even THINK about it! Zena would leave home
