Oscar enjoyed his first SLR walk yesterday. A fantastic day with 17 dogs and nearly as many people plus 2 lovely wolf hounds and an enormous greyhound who joined us on the walk. I think it underlined our suspicions that Oscar is not used to lots of other dogs so he did well to avoid getting completely 'lurchered'. He got involved in some rather boisterous play with some of the other dogs on the walk, which did him some good in terms of character building! He seemed to enjoy every minute and when he was on-lead was desperate to get off and run! The day helped him to socialise with other dogs and it was the perfect opportunity for him to meet some new friends. As he is only 22" at the shoulder, he was at a disadvantage to some of the others, but loved running and playing and especially the liver cake at the end! (Must get the recipe).
As we speak, he is tearing around the garden with a plant pot in his mouth (an empty one, I hope) and Rosie is giving him some tips on how to take on another dog. Not sure the benefit from the bath Oscar had last night will last long but he did look gorgeous for about half an hour! He just accepts everything with a smile and loves being outside and running around.

Just a thought about the stiff hip/leg...... Our Oscar went through a spell of seeming very stiff and even a little in pain at times. It was much worse after a short stay in kennels where he had no bedding!! (Not a kennel I would recommend to anyone ) After x-rays and a thorough going over from the vet, we worked out that he needs a bit more padding under him for sleeping. If your Oscar has been used to being tied up outside (maybe on concrete?) that may be part of the problem??

Thanks for the thought Stickypaws - he has got used to sleeping on a sofa now, so I hope that is helping! He has got a lot better now he is back to full, off-lead exercise and his back leg muscles are really starting to build up. With the prospect of a home with lots of land to run around, I am sure his stiff leg will (hopefully) be a thing of the past.
Thanks for your kind thoughts,
Sally x

Oscar has got visitors coming on Sunday so paws crossed he is on his best behaviour. Sounds like a lovely prospect for him and another girlie to play with, if they get on!!!
Have told Rolf to get the wine and the tissues ready!

I'm delighted for Oscar If Jasper hadn't turned up when he did I'd definitely have offered him a home here - but I'm sure he's going to a wonderful home, probably with a lot more experience than me! (Though Jasper is teaching me more about how to be a lurcher mum every day )
