Scruff was very much loved by his mum. He was saved from a life of god knows what being advertised on Epupz. Mum has had a baby and with the best will in the world she has had to admit that having two lurchers, lively at the age of one has just taxed her to distration. Scruff is the more confident of the two dogs, and having met him today, is totally gorgeous, has the lurcher lean and is an absolute poppet. It was a very tearful takeover today, when his mum said goodbye, but with only the best interest in Scruff's future at heart, I think that she did the right thing. The reason that I started this Rescue in the first place was to save dogs from leaving their own homely armchairs and ending up in kennels. Scruff has gone straight to Gilly and Jim down in Portsmouth and the life of Riley. Gilly phoned tonight to say that he is settling in well, Ollie loving him and the Jack Russels having a blast with him. Just Sam the group leader to approve. As I type he is having as dinner of chicken and rice In the short time that Scruff was with us he showed that he was dog friendly people friendly and a real Lurcher Leaner. An absolutely lovely dog. I know his relinquishing mum is looking in on the thread, so please don't beat yourself up, don't worry, he is in the best possible rescue in the country. I know it is hard to give a much loved member of the family up, but you thought of the best interests of Scruff first. Just a couple of photos of today. It was getting dark by the time that we did the switchover to Jim. A round trip of 136 miles. Takeaway tonight I think. Hi, Scruff's the name. But stroke me and I am all silk and soft. She's gone off to the toilet. Are we off yet Jump? Are you kidding. I don't do jump Why put the effort into jumping when you have servants. I'll leave it to gilly to fill you in on tonight. Scruff, you are lovely. xxx

So pleased all went well today for Scruffs transfer down to Portsmouth I am sure he will be loving it with all Gilly's dogs to play with and he will have lots of love and fun coming his way.
I am glad my assessment on Scruff was spot on if I was looking to foster again I would have kept him closer to home for SLR but I know he has gone to just the best foster home from what I know of Gilly.
So if you are reading this Shelly I know that Scruff will be happy with his new foster family, just hope Spot is not missing him to much, but he will be able to have more quality time with you all now.

Well what a special boy we have for our first foster. Scruff is gentle, kind, loves small dogs, loves Ollie ;D, loves cuddles and loves a walk. He traveled home really well in the car with no problems, on arriving home he came in to meet Ollie first and there was lots of waggles and sniffing. Scruff then met the Jack's Daisy and Roxy and he really loves small dogs, giving them lots of kisses (or is that because they were girlie's ). Finally he met my grumpy Sammy, this was a little more challenging and even though Sammy was grumbling and telling him straight to keep away from him Scruff totally understood what was required and kept away without retaliating. He is a lovely, submissive, baby lurcher who is going to make some family very happy. So far we can report that he loves kids, cuddles, other doggies of all sizes. He walks very nicely on the lead without pulling, he eat his dinner nicely and even let Jim lift the bowl up before finishing ;D. He takes treats very gently. Oh and he is using the dog flap already as well The only, but expected, pee pee's were up the Christmas Tree and the doggies toy box He is just about to go out for his bedtime walk. Here are some pic's to get you all loving the wonderful Scruff.

Morning from the mad house ;D SHOCKED LAST NIGHT, Ollie (my laid back, gentle, can't be bothered Ollie) had a right pop at Scruff and put him in his place, I know it's all about dominance but it's hard to see and understand when I know he is feeling confused as it is and just needs a Lurcher cuddle No to bad a nights sleep, poor little might took about an hour to settle last night and I purely put that down to the fact he was looking for his friend Spot In the end he curled up on his bed just outside our bedroom, the door was open but I think the vibe from the other dogs was to keep out until we know you better etc He woke me up about 7am this morning, again whining and walking around and around. I am going to take him out for a long walk in a mo on his own to show him it's ok to be in his own company. Generally so far Scruff is very gentle, kind and a loving dog. He seems to gravitate to men more at the moment for affection. Gilly x

Nice to have an up date on Scruff, I fell in love with both the dogs when I did his assessment I am sure he will soon settle with you all as you say maybe he is missing his friend Spot. As for the incident with Ollie I am sure they will soon be best mates, I know the last foster dog I had took a chunk out of Belle's neck within a couple of days of being here as she wanted to be top dog and I was so upset at the time Kent Greyhound Rescue offered to move her on, but I did not want to give up on her so just gave it time. I had her for nearly four months in the end before she got rehomed and they were all fine together. And maybe after poor Ollie bing attacked that time by another dog has put him on his guard a bit with others.

It is a pecking order thing Gilly. No worries. They will all settle, but Scruff does body language that says, I am bottom dog anyway. Extra hugs fromhere.

Thanks for the advice guys and hugs. I was quite upset about it but can report that everything is starting to settle down. Scruff is very intelligent and is not going near Sammy at all, he has had a game in the garden with Ollie this afternoon (and like you said Silverlady Ollie is still holding on to the past attack and I think he felt threatened last night). Scruff has had three 30 min walks so far today to build him up and I have to say for a big dog who is only a year old he is perfect on the lead, he walks along side me and even does 'Wait' at the road side ;D He met a cat on the other side of the road today and he did get quite excited so not sure on the cat situation yet. He has met the chickens also and was fine to just look at them in their coop. He is loving the log fire and has spent about 3 hours asleep this afternoon with the others. So far I can report NO counter surfing, or begging them we are eating. He is booked in to the vets on Tuesday to be checked over for his OP on Thursday , bless him. More updates to follow

Another lovely day with Scruff. He again, slept really well last night in the spare room, he has the freedom of the house and the garden via the dog flap but he settled and slept right through, probably all those walks ;D Scruff went to the vets today to meet the nurse for a pre-castration check, he was given a full bill of health and the one thing I have to say is he is a right sqinny - bless him. The vet had a quick look at his neck (Ollie tried to show Scruff some manners about where and where not to put his nose and unfortunately Scruff got a small scratch on his neck), the vet said that due to him scratching it it has now gone from a scratch to a 2 inch wound That in mind Scruff is going in for his castration tomorrow so that his neck can be shaved and cleaned it out, at the moment he wont let an of us near it, bless him. On a very high note, Ollie and Scruff had some great lurcher play in the garden today and then the Jack Russell's joined in, it was lovely to see them all playing so well. Scruff loves a game, he is a typical one year old and is full of life, but I have to say he plays nice a gentle with the Jack's. Oh forgot to day, at the vet's we weighed him.......... 29.65kg WOW.... ;D Here are some pic's and I have to say the ones of all the boy's sleeping on the same bed made my eye's well up... The Jack's warming up his crate for tomorrow
