Have just had the pleasure of meeting little Nell. She is every bit as gorgeous as she sounds and has fitted in perfectly with Salโs pack.

You did well to stay upright Heather when the mad trio went flying around the garden! A little update on this adorable jezebel....she is not cat friendly. The one Nell spied yesterday on our walk was greeted with barking, a whipping tail and her hackles raised. She responds really well to her name. She's not keen to get her feet wet but with some foody persuasion we had a paddle on the gorgeous warm 1st November when we went for a walk with Floyd and his lurcher pal. She is a nester. During the day one corner of the sofa is littered with a variety of toys, a shoe, a sock, also a shopping bag yesterday. So far nothing has been damaged but we know where to look if anything goes missing. Usually it's one of my shoes or slippers but she cosied up with one of my Dad's when he visited... Nell loves all toys, soft ones, bouncy ones, squeaky ones and balls of all sizes. This tennis ball is regularly batted about the lounge and when Phoebe brings me a football to throw for her, Nell speeds off and gets it ahead of her, with Phoebe looking forlorn. She's not adverse to a game of tug either, confidently grabbing a toy that's already in someone else's jaws! Ah, she's discovered her tail. As I'm typing, Nell is chasing it in a circle She is pretty little poppet ... And a thinker... And a playful little tinker too... There's no denying Nell is a bit special. She is a bundle of love, affection, gentleness, grace, sensitivity, and shy at times such as meeting new people, but also fun, feisty and confident. I may have said this before but she has a way of looking at you and listening, like she is taking in every word, and is so gentle with her paws when she wants something or a cuddle, she places them so softly on you Her snuggles are amazing. The other evening she nestled her chin on to my shoulder and in minutes was asleep, softly breathing on my neck It is chaos when Floyd, Phoebe and Nell hit play mode at the same time, I can feel the grey hairs taking over , but when all is calm you wouldn't know there were five hounds here. If only it was always like this. Five taking it easy in Hampshire... Everyone move along one... Boundaries have been put to the test a bit latterly this week with Nell trying to squeeze her way in to any affection being given to the others and she'll happily sit on or squidge up with whoever may be sat where she wants to be. She does respond politely/submissively to their reactions/body language but will try again. Also in the garden she will hold her own. Floyd (and recently Phoebe too) get rather barky and she soon tells them if she's had enough. The corner of the sofa is where they all want to be as it gets the sun the longest. There's no shortage of sofa space seeing as we've just bought an extra one to accommodate us all. Bookends cheek to cheek catching the rays.. Little Nell is destined to have another bath soon as we haven't quite combatted the aroma from her head/ears. There's nothing obvious but we're not sure what it is and doggie wipes aren't doing the trick. She won't mind. You can do anything to her and she won't fuss.

Fabulous update. She really is a heartbreaker. I wonder if the nesting indicates sheโs coming into season, as you thought she might be? When I came over I did laugh when she pegged it up the garden with a shoe!

There's a lull in the lurcher shenanigans this morning so a little update on wee Nell. Fireworks....she didn't bat an eye lid to them going off Unlike our others who had mixed reactions to them. She even rested her head on Floyd when he was startled by them and came over to lay with us for company. She has been demonstrating her prowess at squeezing through small gaps and clearing the decking gates again. To try and spare some of our dwindling 'lawn' (I use the term loosely), I've been letting the hounds out there in pairs. It was Floyd and Phoebe's turn so Nell was inside with the patio door just a little open. I was up the garden with Floyd and Phoebe and the decking gate was shut so they couldn't charge over the slippery surface (morning frost still there). I heard what sounded very much like paws on wood and peered down the garden. Sure enough there a little bouncy brindle being on the deck, who with a vertical take-off cleared the gate and whizzed up the garden! I don't know how she squeezed through the door, I was sure it was too small for her. I should know by now, where there's a will there's a way with lurchers Nell quite likes to do this, with or without the company of others... Where's the off switch?! And that was after a session of zoomies with Phoebe and bouncy playtime indoors. Oh to have their energy. The bitey-face sessions with Phoebe occur frequently every day. They are a funny pair to watch. That is usually a fave past time of Floyd and Phoebe but he just lets them get on with it now. Nell's playful interaction with Floyd is mainly tug-of-war. He is 10kg heavier than she is but it all looks to be quite fair, although the toys wouldn't agree with the ripping sounds and more stuffing coming out. I had to rescue Phoeb's big duckie from them as she likes to suckle and knead it with her paws before she goes to sleep Our old gal Rosie is so tolerant of the bounciness that goes on here. She's not one for being big on closeness from other hounds, she'll take it sometimes but more often than not she prefers the space. So, to see Nell and Rosie snoozing together was so lovely Are you comfy there little miss long legs, amid your toy stash? Nell came along to watch Floyd's agility class at the weekend. She was such a good girl at meeting so many new dogs, polite sniffing and sitting patiently and watching what was going on. The only time she showed a keen interest of wanting to join in was when a whippet took off for his turn and when it was Floyd's go. Pointy noses like their own don't they I'm sure they are just innocently bathing in the sun's rays here, but can't help think are they the three stooges or three wise monkeys We've had no food stealing so far, although she will try and share our dinners if we eat on trays in the lounge. A few "No's", hand blocks and tapping on the sofa or bed and she'll lay down quietly though. No jumping up at the work tops, she knows not to muscle in on the other's eating and has learnt where her feeding bowl goes. Haven't quite cracked the toilet training but she is nearly there and last night whined to go out for the first time. I think it's a case of when she needs to go, she just needs to go quickly. Her first pee of the day was quite big and a strange yellowy/orange colour yesterday morning, which may have been dehydration (she doesn't drink a lot and her pees are usually very small) so I'm taking a sample to the vet when she has her second vax this week. A dog was very interested in getting close to her on one of our walks so maybe she is due in season which could also account for the wee colour maybe. Nell greets people she knows with the bendiest waggiest body and the way she nestles down on your lap of an evening is very endearing. Every evening she falls asleep on Tim or buried between him and the sofa arm or under cushions (she does like being very cosy) but last night it was my turn for a lap warmer . She does like to come to life at bedtime though. Our's have just about cracked that bedtime means out for ablutions then sleep time (well apart from Phoebe who will present me with a football at any time of day or night in the hope of a kick about), not raid the toy-basket-time EDITED : I spoke too soon. Phoebe and Nell have commenced bitey-face-wrestling-holds and leg nibbling on the sofa and floor, and Floyd is barking at them. Makes a change from Rosie being the fun police *reaches for the ear plugs*

Wow - this little girl is making the most of the change that happened when she came into foster. She obviously recognises that life is for playing and running and cuddling and is making the most of all the opportunities that she now has. The brilliant updates from Sal really illustrate her character - she will make a wonderful, loving addition to an active forever home.

Soooo, I may have been a bit premature about the no stealing bit. On Tuesday, all that remained of a home baked loaf was the clingfilm. Floyd got the blame as he has many previous convictions in this department and when I looked at him he had that guilty look. But, yesterday I spied Nell eyeing up the work top where the replacement loaf was, then last night up went her front paws and the loaf was about to be gently dragged off the surface by little miss not so innocent! It would appear that perhaps it isn't day 4 when their true colours are seen, but day 11/12 Smelly Nellie had another bath yesterday courtesy of our neighbour who is a dog groomer, and had her glands emptied too, poor little love. Nell looked rather dismayed at being taken somewhere unfamiliar. She always knows when we're approaching home from our village walks and instinctively turns in to our drive. She looked quite confused at turning in to a house a few doors away and not our's. As I was going to leave Nell there for her pampering, I didn't make a fuss of her so that me walking away hopefully wouldn't upset her. I unclipped her lead so she had freedom to roam and not feel restricted. While I chatted with the groomer Nell stayed mainly by my side and the groomer commented on how she doesn't take her eyes off me. Bless her. Maybe she thought she was being abandoned again Nell comes when you call her, is quick to learn, and that combined with her level of obedience could make her easily trainable. It is hard to resist her charms when she has such a bond with us already. She is so totally endearing and those eyes melt you . Her gentle paw gestures, and the way she watches you, remind me of our beloved Suki. They share so many similarities with their mannerisms. Not too much nesting in the last couple of days but Nell will cosy up with anything Spot the ball. Not the yellow one They both enjoy a bit of lug pulling You'll have to hide better than that Nell Playtime in the lounge is chaotic, and Rosie her loves her spot on the sofa so is continually at risk of being landed on, and has been...Nell doesn't care where her feet go, on people or hounds for that matter. So yesterday there was furniture rearranging and relocating to open the room up from the two halves the L shaped sofa had made it. By doing so it has made such a difference! The things we do to accommodate our hounds well being and pleasure Now it's done we realise we should've done it ages ago. Everyone seems approving of the new lay out. They still get the sun, there's more floor space to play on, we all have some where to sit and Rosie can be safely out of the way but still in comfort Floyd has had certain urges, shall we say, awakened. Another sign that her season is in the offing maybe. Zoomies with Phoebe got rather heated today too. Nell had been chasing her when both of them became snarly and baring teeth at each other. Still setting boundaries perhaps. To be honest they were no different to how heated Phoebe and Floyd can get with each other. Minutes later they were sharing a drink and rolling around on the spare bed together, so they are friends again. Penny for your thoughts Phoebs When I was uploading the pics for this, the site prompt that asks you to type randomly selected words to prove you're a human, came up with Elegant Elephant. Made me laugh Tim says it's a sign.

Great update. Nice of you to rearrange the lounge so they get a straight zoomie line through to the garden! They will be able to gather more speed now.
