He's landed. Huge thanks to Mike and Jillian and Heather and Philip. He's a little bit bigger than Tag, and around 5 year's old. Collie X Greyhound just like Tag. He has a lovely nature. He has been outside for a wee and a poo, the gang are at ease with him. Mr. Tag tried to say I am the boss, but I AM THE BOSS here, so he was put in his place by me. He sits for treats and even offers a paw, so someone has done some sort of training with him. He is smart, and has picked up that this is his name already. Oh, and he likes to cuddle in and give kisses. We have decided to name him Bilbo Baggins. He's very sweet and very accommodating. Bilbo has just had a bath and is exploring the downstairs whilst Michael takes out Tag Annie, Sasha and Winnie. It's a bit crowded but they all have jelled, so all good. I'll get some photos up but more tomorrow as he is a dark masked brindle and doesn't photograph very well in the dark.

With really sad regret Bilbo will be heading back to kennels tomorrow.
He has done nothing wrong that isn't inbuilt in him. He has been perfect, not marked, not destroyed anything, walks perfectly on lead, good with the other dogs here, although they are not happy with an un-neutered male around. He sits and raises a paw for a treat. Has a laid back personality, very submissive. Sleeps all night quietly downstairs and queues nicely for his dinner.
But today at the Country park I stopped to talk to one of the ladies with a little fluffy girlie the size of a tiny sheltie and he was fine. The dog then got up to walk off and very swiftly he was onto her. Not a sound but picked her up and tried to flick her to break her neck. I janked the lead and he dropped her and I janked him back out of reach before he could get her again. All this time not a murmur, just a lunge grab and flick.
The dog was okay, shaken, but okay and after thoroughly looking at her she got down to walk off to greet another dog.
I hadn't thought to muzzle him as he was on a short lead, but in hindsight never trust a new foster!!
Where do we rehome a Lurcher that has had that so ingrained that it comes naturally? Who do I get to foster him? And he would only find a home within a greyhound family who would have to muzzle him and lead walk him for life.
The Dog Warden agreed that he best come back in and that a place within Greyhound circles will be found.
This dog is a lovely boy indoors. Easy going and well behaved. But as a very small rescue with already our share of dogs needing specialist homes, he is going to be better off being placed within a greyhound rescue. And I hope NOT a kennel rescue as he is so good indoors.
I'm sorry folks, but at the time we brought him in the Dog Warden and I both agreed that if he proved to be hard to home through us he would be going back. We were one of his last hopes.
I have been assured that he will NOT be PTS, that a placement will be found. It's just a shame that he couldn't go into a Greyhound Rescue foster home.
I tried..

That's so sad, but you were wonderful taking him in and I really hope a greyhound foster based rescue space can be found for him. So fortunate the little dog is okay. I can't imagine how sad you are as I've never met him but very tearful for the poor soul xx

Such a shame especially after all the effort to get him out. Basically our hounds are hunters and, if this behaviour is ingrained, it is a problem. It sounds as though he has had a home and been trained. I wonder if something happened before and that is how he ended up in rescue? I hope a suitable home can be found for him. Thank you for trying, Jenny.

Lots of our lurcher and greyhound friends muzzle their dogs.
