for the lovely congratulations
It wasn't our intention to fail, our next hound was supposed to be a greyhound but what can you do when a house guest just slots in so well, especially with the three resident ladies being an established pack and yet taking him in with ease, not to mention his affection with people. The day Penny picked Floyd up and he made his way to us, we spoke on the phone, she said he was the easiest dog she'd brought in and that we'd keep him....how right you were Penny
We've gone from two gentle easy going greyhounds to now one gentle easy going greyhound and three yes three young lurchers all with a fair percentage of saluki in them!
I'll be glad when he and Phoebe can have a proper run around and expend his energy somewhere other than the garden. It's like being a referee when they bounce around the living room...Floyd barking at Phoebe, Rosie refusing to give up the sofa barking at Floyd, Kali darting every which way to escape the chaos
That aside this lovely boy continues to be just that, so trusting and affectionate. He has a super shine to his coat after Kali's groomer kindly gave him a proper bath all over, getting the stuff off his skin, and blow dry (which she insisted on doing for free as she wanted to do her bit for the rescue....thank you so much Karen at Kutz Mutz
). Every inch of him is spotless, he looks and feels fabulous to touch. Two Floydy Facts are 1) he loves to pull your socks off as you try to put them on (he is mightily pleased when he achieves it) and 2) if you lay down on the floor or grass he gently climbs on to you like you're a bed and snuggles down for a snooze
. He is a tad heavy for that to be comfortable for long.
Super shiny after his bath...
Phoebe is absolutely in her element, Floyd is too, not to mention Kali who has a renewed spring in her step now she's not the sole object of Phoebe's persistent play demands. Play is full on, they take turns to chase each other, they've worn a new track across the garden and through the borders (good job the bulk of our flowers are in pots on the patio and so far unscathed).
Sending up another dust cloud from the deminishing lawn!
Floyd's first walk on the New Forest was low key, unphased by the sights and smells.
...but his next one was very different...he was a pulling jumping bean, so excited to be out and desperate to meet every dog in every direction. I was exhausted!
Now he's clear of the antibiotics Mr Fluffy Plums will be saying goodbye to his appendages on Monday and not a moment too soon as Phoebe has recently noticed them with some curiosity which is more than Floyd has. I don't think he knows they are there let alone what for. Phoebe is the one doing the mounting and lots of it!
If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em
Kitchen duties don't go unsupervised but some care is needed when washing up as this often happens...
Floyd and Phoebe's relationship is all play, and he has a different one with Kali although he has been trying to get her to play. Their's is very much that of 'sleeping partners'. He'll often sneak in to the crate to occupy whatever space Kali has left available or lay nearby..
Phoebe has definitely met her match with Floyd. It's not often she doesn't get her own way when another woofit is involved but this week Muscles 'Floyd The Boy' Malone used his extra weight to oust the sun bathing diva from her sun bed..
And the winner is....
One little bit of drama to occur this week but thankfully Floyd's trusting nature eased the situation, was me removing this long grass seed from his nose!...
He was sneezing and sneezing and sneezing and I thought maybe he'd been stung or one of the grasses had tickled his nose. I looked but couldn't see anything, not that it was easy with his head moving with the sneezes. I kept looking and eventually saw what looked like the end of a hair or thin piece of grass just protruding from his nostril. I tried to pull at it but he sneezed again and the bit snapped off. Tried again and the same thing happened. What ever it was felt hooked and wouldn't come out easily but I persevered, not wanting it to go further back. One last tug with the tweezers and out it popped, much to both of our relief and Floyd fell asleep.
He is such a lovely loving boy and pawfect sofa companion
Oh and one other Floyd Fact is that the Celtic/Welsh meaning for the name Floyd is 'grey'. I'd forgotten that. So, we do kind of have our next 'grey' hound after all
I have been hoping another boy would find his way to us but it was going to take a very special hound to follow in the paw prints of our Jack, and Floyd certainly is.
