Hello from the soppy new owners of this adorable pup! Very quiet night with this sweet little guy. He slept just fine in his crate and had a nice walk this morning on lead. It was a big day for him today as he started his therapy dog training. He nearly passed all of the tests to be certified today!! What a clever boy! After speaking more in depth to the trainer it has been decided that he will go through training to be a PTSD Service Dog. They were all very impressed with him and we still start the more in-depth training very soon. He has to be at least 9 months old to be insured as a service dog so we will concentrate on keeping his training up and finding a suitable name ("Come back Elvis" sounds way too desperate!). The dog that we were watching, Riley, when this little guy became available is very pleased that we have brought him a playmate and "Elvis" is quite happy as well. Most of the time the Riley follows "Elvis" around like an annoying younger sibling so then "Elvis" decides to play. They are pretty funny together!

Great update, and welcome to the forum. That's one smart lad you've got there. Please keep us all posted on his progress. I think he'll be the first trained service dog SLR has homed.

So glad your first night went well, and that he will be suitable for the training.
There's lots you can teach him over the next three months until he's old enough to be "official"!

So pleased you've joined the forum. Having met this little guy, we could tell he's a bit special...heavily collie x lurchers aren't our type but my husband said 'I'd have him' - but we have Mr Grumpy Alfie, so that shows what an impression he made. A purpose in life is just what Elvis needs (deffo agree the name needs to go, I do like Ziggy as an alternative!!) and we'd all love to hear how he's doing. It would be really interesting to know what training he's receiving and more about what his 'job' as a PTSD Service Dog entails. There's no such thing as info/pic overload on here! And congratulations to Elvis for nearly passing all the tests - does that mean he has to retake some when he's a bit older, or was it a case of time running out to get them all done? Regardless, you've had him a day for goodness sake...that's AMAZING!!

How's the boy settling in? Have you renamed him yet?
What do Falco and Fosse make of him?

Monty & I also met him on Whitecliff a few times. He is a super little chap. So glad he has settled well. I thought he would having seen how he reacted with Keith & Mollie. I'm glad he is going to 'have a job'. I think the Collie in him will need something to keep him occupied. Well done all of you. Do keep us all up to speed with his progress. How about FRANK (ol'blue eye(s) Sinatra?

And an e-mail just in from Janice:
"Sirus is doing very well. He is so clever and is learning so quickly. We went to Thetford forest today with Kimmie and her pack and the dogs had a wonderful time running about. His recall is amazing for such a young pup. He's always eager for a treat and some good belly rubs. We wore him out today!!
He was trying so hard to keep up with the very speedy Fosse that his little legs were just flying! At times he would just suddenly flop down and have a short rest and then be ready to try his speedy legs out again.
He sure keeps us on our toes and is teaching Ethan (the youngest) the value of cleaning up after himself. Sirus likes Lego as much as Ethan though Ethan doesn't chew on them! Ha!
Ethan has also learned the value of not leaving your food where it shouldn't be since Sirus is always ready for an opportunity to have a snack.
We sure love this little pup! He's full of love and energy! Attaching some photos for y'all!"

Had an update on his new name: Sirus was an auto-correct error! His new name is definitely SIRIUS, the Dog Star. Named after a dog character in one of their children's books.
