What? Not enough? Oops................... I'd better be serious and tell you all what a lovely girl she is. Judy, as she is now called, has settled very well into our routine. She has been here for two weeks and two days (I had to check my diary because it feels like she has always been here). She is friendly with everyone - people and dogs, anyway! She would chase cats if given the chance, and does spend a few minutes terrorizing the local wild rabbit population on our walks!! From which you'll have guessed that she's off-lead....... She is very responsive, and doesn't like to be out of sight for too long. We sometimes walk with a local family of 7 Labradors and Judy has become one of the gang!! She eats well, doesn't bolt her food, and lets the other resident dogs eat in peace. She takes treats very gently, and will move away and drop it on the floor to smell and inspect it before eating it. She is certainly a refreshing change from my greedy greyhounds!! Judy has let me clip her nails, doesn't mind being handled at all, and in fact loves to be cuddled and scritched for as long as you're willing to do it! She does like her home comforts - the first night here she took her lead from the others and slept on a dog-bed in my bedroom. The second night she decided that actually my bed would be more comfortable!! She was asked nicely to leave, which she did, and we've reached a mutual understanding - she does not get on the bed at night, but is "allowed" to sleep on my bed during the day, as long as I don't know she's there!!!!! She is a champion roacher (on the sofa, of course....) and will happily move over when asked to make room for a human to sit beside her as this means cuddles! Judy has been sneezing and reverse-sneezing a lot since she arrived. She had a check up with my vet and was prescribed ABs for a week and Metacam for 5 days. At the end of the week she was still sneezing occasionally and producing phlegm (sorry, folks - have to tell it like it is!!!) She is now on a two-week course of anti-biotics to see if we can knock this irritation/inflammation on the head. If she is still sneezing after two weeks, we may need to take a look into her nostrils with a camera - ugh!! On her first check up the vet measured her heart rate at 60 beats per minutes. This is quite low and I kept a very close eye on her until the next vet visit. Her lungs sound clear and there doesn't appear to be any adverse effect from the low heart rate (no exercise intolerance, or heavy panting on short walks etc) so there is no need for further investigation. I understand that Judy lived with an entire male lurcher in her previous home, and is sharing her foster home with a pack of older dogs - three greyhounds, a galgo and a Brittany. She likes to play and often invites the others to join her, although being old and crotchety they don't usually join in. She will play on her own, and likes it when people join in. Then she chases your feet, and you have to be careful she doesn't trip you up!! This girl is not for people who like to sit around doing nothing!!! To sum her up in a few phrases: happy, well-trained, intelligent, responsive, slightly independent, fun-loving, loyal, lively, lazy (she sleeps as much as my greyhounds). Judy will fit well into many different types of home - as an only dog or with one or two other playful hounds, with children (though sensible ones only who won't goad her to chase their feet!!!), a busy house with lots of people coming and going, a quiet house with one or two people to lavish her with love. She will not fit well into a home where dogs are not allowed on the furniture!!! I haven't posted much on Judy until now as I've been quite busy - some repair work on the house, new tyres for the car, visting relatives from New Zealand and Norway..... In truth, it has been difficult to try and find the words to describe her as she really is a super little dog and I'd love to keep her. She would not develop here - and so for her own good I will not become a member of the Failed Foster Club.... Judy is waiting for her forever home to come and get her - don't be long, or I might weaken !!!! Pictures to follow.

I've been thinking about her quite a lot because she's adorable and you've found so much out about her. When we brought her over to you and I had a little play with her in the garden I noticed she delicately nipped my heels but then dear Smokey did!

She's beautiful, if only I didn't have a cat, she would be a perfect companion for Gershwin

I am sad to have to report that Judy has a flaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm absolutely devastated, because I was hoping I could tell everyone that I had the perfect foster dog!!!! What is it, I hear you ask? ? JUDY LIKES TO ROLL IN COW PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to re-affirm that she IS perfect, she submits to being scrubbed in the paddling pool before being allowed back into the house. I don't want this to become a habit, but if she does happen to roll in another (2 so far..............) I will really try hard to get some photos for you (if I can operate the camera while holding my nose.............. ) before I scrub her clean!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this girl............................

Hope you've got some pegs for the nose!!! Our collie once rolled in a putrid dead pilot whale - far worse than cow pat!!!! I agree - the whiff of putrid dead pilot whale does sound marginally less appealing than fresh deep cow pats!!!! I'll consider myself lucky............

She is totally gorgeous. She visited this morning with Carmel. We walked firstly with Sofi, Mim and Honey. Now Honey is a total snob, but she liked this lady. Even tried to get her to play! Judy and Carmel came in and Tag and Annie said hello. Within seconds everyone had said hello and all trotted out to the garden to nosey around and say hello again. And then all laid down!!! She is an amazing girlie. I can't believe that she is a full-on in play, as she was a total lady. A few photos in the garden. And I will try to download a few of the walk which I had to take on my phone as I forgot said camera! With Tag A bit of sunbathing with Honey Am I allowed in this bit? She is sneezing a lot and so she will be going to see Carmel's vet to see why. Bless her, she is so lovely, even when she sneezes. With Mim

Those are fantastic pictures but I wish I hadn't looked as I rather adore her. If she'd come along at the beginning of the year I'd have snapped her up but we have Erin now. Such a shame and we don't have cow pats in the fields around here!!!
She could join us for a holiday in Norfolk.
Doing a great job Carmel and I wish you lived a bit nearer so I could have a cuddle with her and also have a "Perica moment". Heather

I can't believe it's over a week since I told you all about Judy's "little problem" You know - the cow pat one. I remember promising you some photos if she ever did it again. Well, that day has come......................................... That's not too bad, I hear you say. Well, look at this!!! The poor girl wasn't allowed into the house until she'd had a scrub in the paddling pool. She was about as impressed with this part of the process as I was with the smell!!! We've been rather busy with visitors over the last couple of weeks. First my newphew Jack, who moved to New Zealand with his family 10 years ago, came to visit with his girlfriend, Elise. They've been living in Norway, Elise's home, since July and they thought they'd pop over to Blighty for a few days!!! I was a little worried about what they would think of "the mad Auntie with all the dogs" but as you can see they took it all in their stride! Judy is definitely NOT worried by strangers!! The little hussy was upside down on the sofa looking for belly rubs the minute anyone sat down...... Jack's visit was following just a couple of days later by one from his big brother Ashley (my Godson) and his beautiful fiancee Hannah. Ashley spent a year in the UK in 2006 so it's only 8 years since I last saw him!!! Judy was very taken with Ashley................. It's a good job Hannah loves dogs too!!!!! Ashley and Hannah are flying back to New Zealand on Thursday and are spending their last night in the UK with me and the pack. This last couple of weeks has been a rollercoaster of emotions for many reasons, not least because Judy has taken it all in her stride! I do like this dog - she's got just the right amount of cuteness, cheekiness and intelligence to be able to fit into many different types of home. She needs to move on to her forever home quickly or I'll succumb to her charms............ As Jenny said, Judy has been sneezing a lot and she has been on antibiotics to see if they help. The sneezing has certainly reduced but it is still noticeable. Judy also scratches a little more than is usual, and the very light grazes on her tummy that the vet and I both thought were bramble scratches are, I think, just where she is itchy and catches the very soft tummy skin with her claws. At Jenny's suggestion we've started Judy on anti-histamines today, and I hope to see a marked improvement in the scratching and sneezing. Watch this space..............!!! ............... but not tomorrow because we'll be entertaining my gorgeous nephew Ashley and his beautiful fiancee Hannah! I expect Judy will be getting more than her fair share of cuddles.......... Nite nite.
