Hello, I can't believe it's been over a year since we adopted our boys, Ziggy and Patch. They are very happy boys, they love everyone, they love everything. Everyone and every new activity gets a Ziggy and Patch style highly enthusiastic response - from the post lady, to the word 'breakfast', to simply watering the garden or putting on a pair of socks. I have never known dogs sing and dance before - but they do. When John drives them home after a walk in the arboretum, I can hear them howling with excitement to be home at the top of their voices as he reverses down the track. It has been an eventful year. You might know that we live in the forest of dean. And these are deerhounds. Yep - they like to chase deer. Their recall had been pretty fantastic up until 25th August when they suddenly decided to ignore John... and then he heard a howl. Poor Patch had broken his leg. John had to carry Patch for 2 miles back to car where he phoned me... Don't ask me why he had taken them so far into the forest (you can bet your bottom dollar that we had that conversation a few times). It was a nasty fracture but luckily the vet had a sense of humour. They gave him a giraffe cast. By Christmas the plates had been removed and Patch was up and about again on lead walks. You just can't keep a good dog down!

So then Christmas came. Santa visited the boys. and just because they are deerhounds.... but now everything is back to normal...whatever normal means! Patch and Ziggy are enjoying long runs and getting into everything together. Patch's leg is completely healed and he is running just as fast as he was before. He is enjoying days out with his brother. Here's the boys with John on a walk at Rhossili in Wales. We are very lucky to have them in our lives.

Gosh, a broken leg. Glad to hear he has pulled through it ok. So good to hear they are both doing so well, lucky boys. They were certainly a handful when I transported them to John a year ago, but born to run

Great to hear they're both doing well (and I love the giraffe caste...a vet with a sense of humour!).

So sorry everyone. Deborah sent me the photo below and update on the boys. Hi Jenny, Good to hear from you. Oh I must look at the SLR board. The boys are really good – they are very fit now and enjoying long walks – Patch wasn’t such a fast runner when he arrived (and after he broke his leg chasing deer, he needed to build up his fitness again) but now they both run super-fast. They are certainly a handful, but a lovely one. They make me laugh as they ‘sing’ and howl – for no reason both will suddenly jump to their feet and start. They have also taken to barking at everything, I’m not too sure what we do about that. Our house was flooded 3 times last year, just a few inches of rain water – we are still drying out now. We went downstairs and found the boys on the sofa (they didn’t want to get off as they didn’t want to get their paws wet). After that they were allowed upstairs at bedtime and they are now taking full advantage (photo attached). The boys send their love Dxx

It's been over three years since we adopted our beautiful boys. Here we are on a trip to the beach last week. They are such good boys and love their walks. They love everything actually, from snoozing on the sofas to barking 'who goes there?' at the postie, to having a bath or splashing about in the pond. Everyone and everything receives a massively enthusiastic Ziggy and Patch style welcome. I think they have grown into fantastically happy and very handsome boys. They are now 5 years old. With me More soon Dx
