Winnie has been returned to SLR’s care, since unfortunately she has displayed some lead aggression towards other dogs, (mainly GSDs), whilst on walks. Unfortunately her adopters felt themselves too inexperienced to cope with this in addition to her tendency to pull on the lead.
The aggressive trait has only been in evidence outdoors, & has not been reflected in the home environment, where she has shown absolutely no sign of any aggression towards any other dogs, be they residents or visitors. Winnie was picked up as a stray, so we have no history on her, & we therefore cannot know if her aggressiveness results from being attacked by another dog. We suspect that she may have been worked & then abandoned by travellers.
Winnie has been vaccinated, & flea treatments & worming are up to date.
Winnie has not yet been speyed, since she was in season when she first came to us. This procedure is, however, booked for Wednesday 13th February.
Winnie was initially very nervous when she first came under our wing, but has completely come out of her shell. She is a very confident & happy hound - the tail that was permanently between her legs is now frequently wagging.
She is definitely not cat friendly, & she is an accomplished counter-surfer & bin raider.
Winnie is clean in the house, quiet at night & in crate, (where she goes of her own accord), & non-destructive.
She is intelligent, biddable, & very affectionate.
Winnie travels well, & is good at the vets.
She does pull on the lead, & we are about to try her with a halti.
Her recall is at present an unknown quantity, but Jenny & I will be trying her off-lead shortly.
Winnie has not experienced children in her home environment, but has met several of varying ages whilst out at exercise & enjoyed the fuss they have made of her.
We are convinced that with appropriate training this little girl will make some lucky family a super canine companion, either with or without the company of another dog, (she has been living happily with dogs & bitches with mixed temperaments, though none are either particularly dominant or submissive).

Winnie is currently being fostered by Barney, to whom all enquiries should be directed.
Edited to amend neutering date.

What a lovely day for a free run. Barney and I have been at Pishiobury with Winnie, Erin and Murphy. Winnie hasn't been off-lead since being picked up by SLR way back in the Autumn last year. You can imagine how pent up she must be feeling. Well today Barney released her. Just a couple of videos. Recall was good, and the smile on her face priceless. We met a good few dogs who sniffed her and wanted to generally say hello and she was very well behaved on the lead. Only met a couple of dogs off lead, but the two ridgebacks that she met she said hello to without any confrontation and then recalled back to Barney. What a difference a bit of freedom makes ;D

Jenny you would laugh I have just played the video clip, When Belle herd you calling Winnie, Winnie she rushed in here and run up to the computer screen. Maybe once heard never forgotten. I swear she recognized your voice. You need to come on Belles first walk of freedom. I am glad Winnie did good, hopefully the start of many free runs for her.

Just let me know where and when Don't forget to call Paula and walk with her. It is always good to let them off with dogs they are familiar with and get them used to you calling their name and when they look up at you give them a treat. When they are responding to that frequently then try a long lead and recall to treat and then "freedom". p.s. I should have picked Belle up today, sure you won't change your mind? ;D ;D And... no dogs seem to forget my voice ;D

Winnie has an appointment with highly respected behaviourist Tamara Cartwright-Loebl, ('Marishka' on here & LL), tomorrow.
Erin obviously thought it a good idea to give Winnie a bit of practice on the psychiatrist's couch!
