Unfortunately Dave still needs a new home... Here are some pics for inspiration... He is a long dog...! Maybe he didn't like the bed. Again, use the bed Dave! Something sparks an interest out the window... You don't see me...

Post by feeling calmer! on Apr 6, 2011 7:43:40 GMT
I keep watching Big Dave's thread especially having been through some similar experiences as his adopters Fred and Indie would love him, we have a big garden, off lead walks every day and lots of love and cuddles. He may even add a calming influence to my delinquents! But ......................................I fear Jenny would have to say no because I'm still getting to grips with my two + my work schedule. You never know, maybe this entry will plant a slow growing seed Liz x

Dave has been cross-posted on several sites. Someone out there will see what a lovely boy he is. Perhaps someone with some land, who won't have the lure of rabbits and cats. He is such a loving laid back dog indoors. And to stroke Dave's soft fluffy coat is so therapeutic.

A little update on Dave this last week and how we find him.
He gets along well with our Greyhound Girl Lady and is quite happy being left with her when I’m at work, they are only left either the morning or afternoon as Steve works shifts and is either home just after 2pm or leaving at 1.30pm.
He quite happily eats bones and chews with Lady around and they often swop about with them with no major problems just sometimes a little grumble. They play with the toys with no problems either. If you play ball or throw a stick for him he can jump up at you but it is in play and being over excited.
He is clean indoors and we have had no accidents what so ever from him.
He is affectionate and likes his ear tickles and tummy tickles and he often rolls around the floor or bed roaching and doing his funny little groans.
As has been said before he can open doors, so although I close the sitting room door when I leave for work it’s always open when I come home with both dogs waiting at the front door. He is excited to see you and sometimes mouths on your arm ( a GSD trait that one)
He is obedient and comes when you call him. In the house or outdoors.
I’ve had him off lead on a few walks now and he comes when called but he is on the look out for any prey. He really barks and whines and pulls on the lead when he see’s a cat, and did the same when we saw bunnies on our walks.
His GSD side makes him a good guard dog and he has been protective of me on a couple of walks, for instance when a jogger was running along but stopped where we were suddenly, he barked in warning and sounded off quite a bit.
Indoors he is a complete softy and as has been said he has really soft fur when you stroke him.
He can be a little wary when out in new situations and will bark and whine I feel when he feels anxious of a situation. I tell him it’s alright nothing to worry about and stroke his head, ears and neck and he calms down.
He does bark every time he goes in the garden at night and runs to the back gate where we think a hedgehog lives and Lady does the same now lol.
He’s good with children Steve’s 9 year old son has been with us on walks and played with him too and likes him lots. We have also met children on our walks and he has been fine with them as well.
My daughter came to stay for the weekend for Mothers Day last week and she thought he was a lovely boy too. He took to her and slept on the bed with her, when Lady let him!
On a walk the other day we saw 2 horses being ridden, which he totally ignored even when they neighed.
I took him on a greyhound walk last Sunday and he greeted all the other dogs well and walked well on the lead very happy trolling along . He was also fine with other breeds we met on the walk.
Walking Dave on the lead, he doesn’t like a lead attached to his collar and really pulls on the lead that way. I did walk him on a harness at first which he walks well on although I am now using a rope slip lead and he walks well on this but I make sure it’s down his neck under his collar which he finds more comfortable I think. He sings quite a lot when we are getting ready for a walk, so I have Lady bouncing and jumping around and Dave singing at the same time, the sooner their leads are on and we are out the door the better.
Steve has done the 60 minute make over on the fence/trees at the end of our garden by cutting down conifer branches from the side and threading them through at the end, it now looks like a complete conifer hedge and Dave hasn’t attempted any more Houdini tricks. This is good because Dave does enjoy being in the garden just out there sniffing the air or laying on the patio in the sunshine.
Basically he is a good dog who is very loving; he’s settled into our routine now and seems quite content. Whoever has him on their forever sofa won’t be disappointed, they will just need to understand about his prey drive and take care.

Nice update on Dave sounds like he is doing well with you and has settled into your routine like a good boy. Bless him he has been around the houses a bit all he needs is some stability in his life by the sound of it and just the right home to come along do that for him. Mind you I bet Lady Sadie will have the sulks when she loses her boyfriend I can see they are becoming up close and personal. ;D
