I've just got a call from a very distraught lady in Southampton who has made a tearful decision to give her brindle Whippet X Greyhound up for adoption. He is 11 months old, named Marley and her neighbours have complained about her leaving him 7 hours a day indoors as her working hours have changed. He is described dog friendly, people friendly, but missing her as she didn't used to leave him. Can anyone get to Marley and assess him today! and if they think it okay, to bring him in. Her other choice is the Blue Cross who say they have kennel space He is unneutered, but not interested in that way at the moment. Not known if cat friendly, but not bothered when out on walks.

Romi is shooting over there for us. ;D She can get him out but I don't think she can foster him for more than a day or so. Romi is going to try and get him cat tested this afternoon at her mums, so cross fingers. He's only a baby.xx

Got him! ;D Yes Sally, he's very like Jack. What a wonderful friendly dog. Full of energy, has had a great race in the garden with my boys. Definitely no food agression - he was sharing a bowl of dins with Angus. His recall will take a bit of work, but everything is just soooooo exciting at the moment. I will take him over to meet my mum's cats later when its a bit cooler. And get some photos too.

;D ;D ;D Oh well done for getting him in Romi and heartfelt sympathy to his Mum for recognising that she had to let him go My heart goes out to her this evening He looks like a real bright spark and, at only 11 months, there's plenty of time to work on his recall Sorry we can't offer to take him Jenny: I don't think SLR needs anymore pups just yet

I have taken Marley over to visit my mum's cats. Could only locate one hiding in the flowerbed in the garden. Marley was interested in a curious but not fixated way. Sambo (big black tomcat - my mum doesn't do pc) growled and spat at him and he backed off and barked a bit. I think given time and the right bolshy cat he would be ok. He's only a pup after all. He has had such fun playing with my boys. He tries to invite Tyler to play but she tells him to back off and he is gradually getting the idea. He has already mastered the dogflap so he is pretty smart. Just got to see the look on Del's face when he gets in. Ho-hum.

Hang in there Iane. Just caught up with all this and really feel for you - it must be the hardest thing in the world , and you've done the bravest thing. You really have done the kindest thing for Marley. Take time to be good to yourself. He'll be fine with Romi - I'm a newborn lurcher, but have been watching the site for 6 months and you can guarantee they'll do the best for him. They only let their dogs go to the very best homes. Sweet thoughts and hugs from me and the terrors - x

Last update before bedtime. Marley and Nero are sprawled across my bed under the ceiling fan just chilling out. Dunno where I'm gonna sleep. Dogbed on the floor I guess. Nitey-nite.

Oh Romi you are truly a star for getting to this very handsome lad so fast today. My heart goes out to you Iane but you have made the right decision, as hard as it seems at the moment Marley is so handsome and I couldn't get over how much he looks like Jack I so hope someone can foster this lad, you never know Del might let Romi foster this one I would offer but Jim has a new job and I am getting my hounds in to a new routine

As a fosterer for SLR we have seen it time and time again, even if it means a dog stays in foster for a longer period of time before the right home comes up and I'd like to add that we love all the foster dogs that come into our care and treat them as we would our own dogs. He will be much loved and cared for. BD

Reading this last night was heart breaking . Such a brave and hard decision to make but I'm sure you thought of everything possible before deciding to part with Marley. I cant believe how like our Jack he is ... its so like looking at him. You've come to the right place, SLR are a truely wonderful 'pack'
