Ianto's coming on wonderfully He's had lots of socialisation, and we've been able to give him lots of off-lead time. He's gained .3 of a kilo in a week, and he's put on quite a bit of condition - he's getting quite good-looking The down side is that in the last few days he's had a bit of a runny tummy - just one bout a day, after his evening meal. I'm not convinced this is food related. He knows he gets supper after we've eaten, but what with one thing and another I can be in the kitchen for a couple of hours before dinner, then he has to wait while we eat, and I think the excitement/anticipation of FOOD is taking its toll and all has to come out somehow He is NOT hungry - I leave food at the back of the worktops, but he could easily reach to help himself if he wanted, and he makes no attempt to push for our food. However he would be a walking dustbin if we let him, and I think this is the result. I'm going to try restricting his kitchen access, and also give him something to distract him while I'm in the food room. Not sure how successful that will be, as he really does have the attention span of a carrot More piccies: Boo! Mine! All mine! Told to sit down and shut up. What's wrong with a game at 7.30? Chilling out (OK, hotting in really) Killing Sis! Go me! She's gonna save me bit of her bone isn't she? Huh? Pleeeease! Helping mummy make the bed Beeyoootiful me! Acquiring new tastes. Beer good Err Sis .... you sure this is the right way round

There are times when we wish we could go up to 3 permanents. Those ears!! He really is a laugh a minute.
With regards his tum, we found he was alright most of the time but had occasional upsets which we thought must be due to contraband, but as he didn't (obviously) countersurf we could never work out what it might be, apart from rubbish mumped off the streets or out the hedgerows.

Ianto's ears have a life of their own I would try feeding him four small meals a day Frances instead of the two. See how that goes. Also, am wondering if he could have a Gluten intolerance. Might be worth trying some Gluten free food for a while. His colouring has changed to very pale since he came into the rescue. We have a dog here, Mim, with multiple allergies to foods, meats, and we have in the last two months put her onto Purina P.H. which is on Vet prescription. She was always getting diarrhea, and since changing the food her poos are same as dogs fed on raw and her coat has glossed up, along with much more energy and a healthy weight.

He's on gluten/additive/GM free already - Zena's 100% gluten intolerant and additive-sensitive, so I can't have anything of that nature around. The four small meals is another thing to try out - I still think this is anxiety/excitement related. However he'll be going to the vet next week for a general overhaul, so I'll be having a chat about it then. Him and Zena are currently playing all-in wrestling, so it doesn't seem to be affecting him too badly at present!

They are sleeping , so for once I have time for an update! Tummy problem sorted out - Ianto is now on Wellbeloved and is thriving. Luckily Ianto is not a picky eater and will eat any flavour, unlike his sister who goes on a hunger strike if I give her anything except the duck and rice flavour Hounds are thoroughly settled in together, and would miss each other like mad if they were parted now. Zena's version is that he's a brat and she'll eat him for breakfast one day! Ianto is VERY confident now, and not at all intimidated by Zena's big bad growling act - although he does have the sense to realise that waking her up from a nap because he wants to play isn't the best idea in the world Took him to the vet for a general check up yesterday. Largely passed with flying colours and rapturous admiration from vets and staff about his looks. Thinking of starting a Facebook page called "Ianto's Ears" - nobody can resist them and I think they deserve a fan club. Unfortunately, it seems that the ears are more ornamental than useful - the vet has confirmed what we've been suspecting, that Ianto does not have full hearing. From what I was able to tell the vet about Ianto's reactions to different noises, it looks as though he has no hearing at all on certain frequencies. so now we need to work on identifying what he can and can't hear. And being a lurcher, we have to allow for all the things he won't want to hear Isn't training going to be fun? Before anyone suggests it, no, I am not getting him a hearing dog ;D World War 3 appears to be in progress in the other room, so they have obviously woken up. Zena is rather confused by Ianto's style of play - she isn't used to something that squirms around on the floor waving its legs in the air. She's also a bit wary of him doing that since he got all four legs under her the other day and threw her across the room. He's filling out nicely (21 kg and practically perfect according to the vet), and they're able to play on much more equal terms now. We've put Ianto back into a collar, as Zena insists on going for his throat, but I'm not sure how good an idea it as Zena tends to grab the collar and swing him round by it. Evil animal! Still, he seems to enjoy it, and keeps coming back for more. Kevin has more pics, but I haven't uploaded them from his phone yet. Will post them when I have a chance.

We need some updates in Ianto, Frances I was laughing about the post you have written under the thread about my crazy greyhound .He sounds like he is a little character. He's a little something alright, but I'm not sure character is the word I'd use! If he wasn't the most sweet-natured and affectionate little beastie in creation, I'd have sent him back by now (We did have him on approval right?) He and Zena adore each other (not that she'll ever admit it) and she's taken to behaving as if she's the same age as him. You couldn't part them for anything now. There's a lot of time when it's a bit like having a teenage daughter and a five year old son (kids would have been easier : , but the spats never last long. Zena doesn't hesitate to tell Ianto where he gets off, but he's confident enough to stand up for himself now. I'm not going to say the dietary problems are sorted as every time I do that, I get up and find another large cowpat in the sitting room (another reason we're delaying replacing the carpet). There is improvement though - he now weighs 22.3 kg, and is a big powerful boy The partial deafness isn't too much of a problem. It can cause problems if people come up behind him and go to fuss him, as if they startle him he can snap. My view is that they shouldn't just walk up like that anyway, but obviously we have to be careful with him. He's not too much of a people person in a lot of ways. He's very wary - even a person walking along the other side of the road can get him very tense and edgy. There doesn't seem to be any particular type of person he doesn't like, so again he has to be carefully watched. I think the little lad has found out the hard way at some point that not all people can be trusted. Even with us, a sudden movement of the wrong type can make him flinch as if he's expecting to be hit - and I don't mean a gentle tap Socializing him with other dogs has been a problem. I had a couple of pretty nasty experiences with other dogs off lead, whose owners wouldn't control them, and as a result, I now go somewhere fairly isolated. From a lurcher point of view it's a dream - huge fields, all securely enclosed. Good vision in all directions, so I get plenty of time to get him back on lead if another dog approaches. The downside of course is that he doesn't get to meet other dogs much to learn to get used to them. I'm hoping I can get on with that more as the weather improves. His recall his pretty good, but other training is slow going because of the deafness. He hasn't scared the squirrels out of the garden, in fact we have more now than when he arrived. He's also very good about not chasing small furries when he's on a lead - rather a relief from my point of view, given how strong he is now So he loves his mum, dad, sis and gran to pieces. He adores tug toys, balls and squeakies. When he grows up he's either going to be an excavator or a wood-worker. Wooden damage toll so far is five drawer knobs, one footstool, the leg of a coffee table and the side of a bookshelf. He worships and adores bed (ours). And he loves food. All food. Any food. BUT he doesn't steal, scavenge or go over the top with begging He doesn't like wearing a coat, but like Zena he's prone to getting a stomach chill, so he does as I say. Zena's just read this and points out that I've forgotten to say that a) he's a pesky brat who wakes her up at 2 a.m. to play b) he hogs the settee c) he hogs the bed d) he snores and e) he poos all night when I give him brussels. Apart from that he's OK I'll add some photos later - I've got lots from the snow, but the more recent ones are on my phone and I can't find the cable. Ianto's either eaten it or, more likely, hidden it in the toy corner

Wasn't sure about this stuff to start with But I soon got to like it with sis OKay, okay! The tug toys yours Don't bully me sis I said DON'T BULLY ME SIS Looks well doesn't he? Oh and I forgot to mention - he's discovered that he has a voice AND how to use it And to top it all off....... my handsome, elegant boy

What a beautiful hound Ianto has grown into and what a nice couple they make. So glad the Zina is happy with him and of course yourselves and Mum. ;D The photos are lovely just show how happy he is with you. Its nice to know that the partial deafness is not holding him back and he just gets on with his lurcher life. Sorry to hear he has had a couple of issues with other dogs I know the feeling. Maybe when the weather is better we can arrange a walk up your way a few of us with other lurcher's, so he will be able to do some socializing other lurcher's. Sounds like you all love him to bits and he was defiantly a good choice and the right hound for you.

Maybe when the weather is better we can arrange a walk up your way a few of us with other lurcher's, so he will be able to do some socializing other lurcher's. Lovely idea I seem to live in a pretty much hound-free area and the couple of times we've encountered other hounds, Ianto's been quite calm. Not sure that I would bring both brats. Exercising them together is a problem, as Zena has hit one of her periodic fits of deciding that she's alpha female, and refuses to do as I say, in case Ianto gets the idea that I'm in charge. Guess which one of us Ianto obeys? They also like a very different type of walk - Ianto always wants to play if Zena's there, while she like to mooch along sniffing. Sunday is always play day, as Kevin takes them off to the woods and just lets them go, but I have to do the boring stuff like training and discipline, so it's easier for me to take them separately. Luckily Ianto is happy chasing a ball till the cows come home, so he gets all the running he needs. Then there's plenty of play in the house after walks. We also have to keep reminding ourselves, that in spite of the way she's behaving Zena IS 7 years old, has a deformed hip, and is starting to show signs of arthritis. The fact that mentally now she's about 18 months old, means she sometimes needs slowing down for her own protection It's also a problem meeting other dogs if I have them together, as Ianto is mega-protective of his female possessions. Strange people aren't allowed to get close to his mum to talk, and strange dogs may NOT sniff his sister Walkies can be interesting

Lovely updates Francis. Our Tag has been a similar work in progress. He is still very nervy on the lead, and if anyone is following behind constantly looks round to make sure they are at a distance. I swear those ears of Iantos have not stopped growing. He is stunning, and so is your lovely girlie. She looks very much like little Jessie that we have taken in here. Fringers crossed that it is onwards and upwards for Mr. Ianto.

Completely irresistible (unless he's just dug another hole in the carpet). When I first saw Jessie, I thought how like Zena she was. Must admit I can't see Zena making such a great mum as Jessie though - far to fond of being a baby herself. The standard threat in our house at the moment is "If you two don't stop it, I'll send you to Jenny's and swap you for a couple of puppies" ;D Sometimes, I'm seriously tempted!
