A lovely update from Emma ........ Hetty is doing really well and is still as lovely as ever!! Her wander lust is not so extreme, especially now we enjoy lovely long off lead walks together. As you predicted, she doesn’t tend to stray that far away from me, unless chasing something. She’ll still take herself off at least once a day but doesn’t tend to roam quite so far – her ‘patch’ is the 200 acres around us, with the hedge around the house and the small copse 100 yards up the lane her favourite haunts. Her recall is much better; it’s only really when she’s just spotted something worth chasing or is in full flight I don’t have a hope. But she comes straight back afterwards….
She’s been on holiday with us a couple of times - camping in Cornwall for a week, with my sister’s three dogs and a short stay on the Suffolk coast. We had to resort to the vet’s help with the longer journeys, but she is much better on the shorter ones. We’ve managed 40 miles without a problem. She’s definitely happiest on the back seat in her seat belt harness, with the girls either side of her. It’s quite a site!
I think the only thing we have to work on is her manners with other dogs. She can be very bossy with certain dogs – the more dominant ones in general.
I will update Happy Endings with pictures sometime soon – now the children are back to school and life is a bit more sane!

thanks for the update emma, on hetty, it is lovely to hear that she is doing so well with you. she had to wait a while for her new forever home, with a few moves along the way, but she has always been such a loving little soul, and i really miss the cuddles that we used to have, but she must be in seventh heaven now, with such a loving family around her, and all that land to explore. give her another big from us, and tell her, her little friend Robbie dog, who she got along so well with, sends his love, and anytime she wants a playmate to explore all that large garden then he's available xxx

A much overdue update on Hetty@home... Hetty is still absolutely gorgeous and now very much part of the fabric of family life at Herkstead Green. I think she was made for farm life in Essex; she really seems to thrive on it - just watching her on our daily walks brings the biggest smile to my face I wish you could all see her charging around the place, it's magic! She's into every hedge and hole, charging up and down the tram lines in the crops, flushing pheasants and anything else she can find, stalking vermin (mainly mice) in the farmyard and chasing squirrels through the woods, clearing all obsticles in her stride (although she still hasn't mastered climbing trees, much to her surprise and dismay : . She loves walking in all weather, except the wet. She'll look at me as I'm mad when I open the door and it's raining. But she's a trooper and so with very little persuasion we head together for the woods and some shelter. If she disapproves, she heads home and hides under the hedge ;D. She only tends to go for a wander by herself in the warmer weather; she psent most of the winter in front of the wood burners, the closer the better, with the odd spell in a draught to cool off. She did love the snow though; she just couldn't get enough of it. Although she can still be bossy with unknown dogs, she now has quite a few doggy friends. She settles into pack life seemlessly with my sisters three dogs and enjoys playing with my friends' dogs, Bertie the border terrier and Kizzie the boxer, when they come to stay. And she's still completely besoted with my husband. Fortunately I'm not the jealous type! Oh! And for anyone familiar with Lynley Dodd's Hairy McClarey books, Hetty's full title (courtesy of her two sisters) is 'Hetty Louise with Springs in her Knees'. Anyway, here are some photos from the last year. None of Hetty enjoying her 2000 acre backyard, I'm afraid, as she's just too fast All I get is a blur of white and black or a small dot on the horizon. I'll keep trying though... Cuddles with Dad Holidays in Cornwall Roasting by the fire Hetty's mates
