- Freddy at his favorite daytime sofa-surf. Blimey you fosterers are angels, don't think I'd have the courage to so warmly gather in any of the strays that come in with lordy knows what quirks - guessing the little critturs hidden in the fur are the least of the problems! Lots of admiration to you all. I've been thinking for some time about finding a companion for our Fred, adopted from SLR about 18 months ago and now valuable member of the family. He's doing really well by the way, racing over the Downs, breaks in France, frustrated not allowed to chase cats, terror of the squirrels in Stanmer Park, now friends with horses and bored with cattle, paddles in the Adur, given to victory rolls up and over the bunkers of local golf courses, a real Brightonian. Sorry not posted pics, haven't really got the hang of your system, hope this link works. That's all to explain: the mighty Quinn has really caught my eye. Sounds like he'd be up to Freddy's boundlessness, may just be equal to him, learn our household rules and get on with us? I guess he'll need some time to settle down in Cornwall with you experienced people, but I'd be really interested in maybe trying a meet to see if Fred and he would get on, with view to adopting after a bit of a try out? How tall is he? Hoping to find someone a bit smaller than Fred - who seemed to grow a lot once settled in! Do you know any history? Anyway, we're here and interested. ( PS not consulted hubby yet but Fred had him bonded in no time) Freddy & Fran

Hi and welcome. Sounds as though your lovely hound has a great life. If you are interested in adopting you will first have to fill in an application form and get home checked.

Do email Jenny to let her know you're interested though. He's approx. 24 to the shoulder and I don't think he'll grow much more. He is the slightly cobbier collie build though. So far he's being very easy going, taking pretty much everything in his stride but he will need a family who give him clear, consistent boundaries, a very secure garden, owners that are around most of the time and more exercise than the average lurcher.

Hello All, My apologies, I was obviously being a bit naughty and jumping the gun via this thread (is that a metaphor specially invented for super clever speedo lurchers?) and not going by the proper route. I'd come here as I was wondering about the process of fostering as a means of try-out and being able to adopt if it works, and I'd been grabbed in the heart by "little nipper" so leapt in there a bit recklessly. Quinn (now) turned out to be 24" and maybe still growing, whereas the "little" bit was part of the catch for me. Since then I've been doing some more homework about exactly what the scope of the job is that you fosterers all do for the rescue hounds when they first come in to SLR. Not least a look through the thread about one of the very few that didn't work (thread sensibly closed, sympathies all), that brought home to me just how careful you are, and need to be, with hounds that may be bred/ trained not exclusively to be gentle family pets but also sometimes to be killers of small game. Here's a pic of my Freddy looking soppy on my bed - illegally! He's lovely, learnt a lot, has calmed down, loves cuddles and tries really hard to be good, tho given to be mischievous. At the same time when his adrenaline gets up it's quite hard to break through, and squirrels are a major wind up. Squirrels can get up trees though, so can cats, so far, but my arm has had a few potential dislocations. Don't think I'll be able to sort that one, just need to see a cat before Freddy does! For this reason I'm keeping my eyes open for someone a wee bit smaller than Fred as I couldn't hold on to two of him. I've also realised I couldn't foster in early days as too skilled a job, so admiration to all and I'll try and go the proper route to adoption .... But if someone little turns up maybe you'd tip me a wink? Shhhh. Fran x

Quinn has settled in brilliantly. He has a lovely nature and allows you to do anything with him, checking stitches and putting cream on sore bits etc. All the dogs had bones today and although there were a few exchanges going on and a few sneaky steals (Siri aquired three bones at one point and Quinn stole Tzaris from right under her nose! ) There was no trouble at all between seven dogs ! Quinn allows you to take his treat away without a murmur but is most grateful when you give it back. He will need a very secure garden, he tried to give me heart failure this morning shooting between my legs into the front garden as I carried little Tatty in. He flew over the wall and trotted off down the pavement, having scared me totally and having inspected a neighbours drive he came trotting happily back to me all wags and 'where've you been' So 6' foot minimum required as in my secure area. He's spent the day sunbathing with my pack, very chilled and confident, nothing really bothers him but he so wants to run and play, soon Quinn, soon, just need those stitches out and the swelling down. PS. Quinn won the battle of the beds, Fizz gave in and let him have it.

Blimey Sue, that must've been scary for a moment there. Glad he is safely back in the proper place.

I think while Quinn enjoys the company of other dogs he would cope perfectly well on his own as long as he got plenty of socialisation and playtime when out and about. What he really wants is his own person to spend time training and exploring with.

Quinn can curl up nice and small when he wants to. The tub chair is his favourite bed.

Quinn admiring the view 'I can see more from up here' and chilling with some of my pack, he seems to prefer the floor.
