Yesterday, Reggie had his final post-op neutering check at the vets. He has healed perfectly and has the go ahead to run around again. So he enjoyed his evening zoomies in the garden with Jack. Reggie's results came back from the lab yesterday too, and he does not have ringworm, which is brilliant news. The vet thinks his skin condition could be due to allergies so has suggested he goes on a salmon and potato food. He also needs to put on more weight, having lost nearly a kilo since his castration, and his bits didn't weigh that much. It's not helped that I've not been able to add the Forthglade duck puppy food he was having before mixed in with his kibble as his stools hadn't returned to normal and that makes them more loose. He's been eating well, but clearly too much has been coming out of the other end. I've done some research and found a good, hypoallergenic salmon and potato puppy food - Simpsons Premium Sensitive Puppy - which is especially good for skin issues and sensitive digestions and can be fed to large breeds until 18 months old. Hopefully, this will help with his skin and putting on weight. The vet has also suggested to lay off the malaseb and put coconut oil on his sore areas of skin. On our walk this afternoon, he saw lots of other dogs and got to say hello in person (or in dog) to quite a few. He does still bark to say hello at times, but with praise and a handy licky treat I have, he remained quiet on seeing around half of the dogs we encountered. It's very much like he's calling to them, "hello, I'm over here, come closer, I want to play with you and sniff you." He's friendly with all dogs and very much wants to run and play and play bows often when greeting. Some pictures from this afternoon's walk: He's such a darling, everyone who meets him comments on how lovely he is. At the vets yesterday, he was surrounded by about five cats in baskets and he didn't react at all. The owners of one of the cats were very taken with him, as was the owner of a Greyhound who came in as we were leaving, and Reggie gave the Greyhound a lovely, polite and quiet hello.

He's such a lovely hound. Glad he has healed and there no ringworm. Hoe the new food helps his skin. We give Rowlf salmon oil every day. His skin was dreadful after all his bandaging bit it's now fine and he has a lovely shiny coat. I wonder if that would help Reggie!

This morning Reggie spent a short time with the cats. He was good and in the end, he settled lying down in the same room as them. For the first ten minutes or so, he was very interested in them in a playful way. Once he had a little swipe on the nose from one, he stopped sniffing him so closely. Then when he got too close to the other who made a deep growling sound rather than hissing as cats usually tend to do he respectfully backed away. I think he wants to play and not hurt them, but I kept him on lead to be on the safe side as it's early days still. He was so sweet when one of the cats went up to sit on the windowsill, Reggie tried to get up there too a little distance away and had a bewildered expression when he wasn't successful, getting only as far as climbing onto the ottoman below.

What a lovely boy, and you're bringing him on so well!
Burgess Supadog do a salmon and brown rice sensitive food. We have used that for a long time and ours do well on it.

Brilliant - spot on with the training. We are working with a trainer as Rowlf barks at other dogs partly excitement and partly because he fears they will come close. He gets a treat for being quiet and ignored if he kicks off. If he does greet nicely he gets a treat but if he goes over the top he is pulled away and ignored. Even for a nearly six year old he is learning quickly. Reggie is such a gorgeous dog I don't know how you are going to,part with him.

As the vet suggested salmon and potato I've gone with Simpsons this time, but as it's twice the price of Supadog and Skinners salmon and rice (which I ordered at first by mistake as it was late at night and my brain was half asleep), I think it's worth trying him on one of those foods next time as they are both good. If he doesn't do well on it, I can always feed it to mine who'll eat anything.
