Reggie is still wonderful and a delight to have in our home. He's become more confident, doing more wees on walks and a few days ago, he did his very first wee-mail. It was so sweet as after he looked at me as if to say, "was I meant to do that, is that a thing?" He's done a few more since as well, and particularly likes leaving his mark after Jack, one of my other Lurchers, has left his. He loves the woods and being walked in parks and loves seeing other dogs. He has to be kept on lead for now, but he's itching to play and tries to run when he sees others running by, and also sometimes barks and play bows, so it'll be lovely when he can run and play with others outside. When we've walked past on-lead reactive dogs who bark at him, if they are quite close, he will bark back. This just started in the last week or so since we had a couple of dogs run at us with no owner in sight in the woods. I was worried at first he could be scared because of this, but I don't think he is. I think it's likely to be because he wants to say hello. Yesterday, when we saw two Huskies who were on lead, he barked at them as they pulled their owner into the woods. But then, a minute or so later when the huskies were off-lead, one came over to say hello to Reggie close up and that time he didn't bark at all and was happy to greet him. So I'm thinking he's barking to greet dogs too far away to sniff. He does love doing zommies in the garden with my dogs. He hasn't quite mastered playing football with regards to bringing back the ball after it's been kicked, but he loves chasing it and waiting for me to get there to start the game again. When we go out in the car, he's improved on waiting to get out of the boot until he's told it's okay. In other wee wee updates, he lets me know when he needs to go outside by standing by the back door. However, I do still let him outside after waking up, after meals, and after playing. So he's easy to keep perfectly houseclean and fine overnight for around 7-8 hours. He's so affectionate in the home and also outside. He's always got a waggy tail when he sees a person outside as if they are only there to see him. If there's a tiny space on the sofa, barely large enough to fit a person's arm, he'll get into it and snuggle when he wants a cuddle, and likes nuzzling under your arm or behind your back or neck. But he's not needy, and is often happy to have an armchair to himself or when the sofa is free, he'll take up most of it on his own roaching. He also likes sleeping on the rugs, and often during the evening he will choose to get into his crate. Early morning snuggles More early morning lapdog snuggles Late night snuggles Human and doggie snuggles He doesn't jump up at me at all, but does do this to visitors he has got to know who he may see once or twice a week or so as he is so excited to see them. I've been asking they only give him attention when he has all his feet on the ground, so hopefully this will be overcome. He is very gentle with it, but we don't have any small children visiting and I imagine he could knock a small child over. Like mine, when we are walking in the woods and see a squirrel quite close by, he can suddenly pull on the lead, which he did the other day while I was walking him with one of mine. But his prey drive isn't as strong and he doesn't do anything else like lunging, jumping up or barking or whining. I had a little run with him in the woods yesterday with one of mine and I'm sure he'd love canicross. I'm new to running, so didn't go too fast, particularly as it was muddy and slippery in places, but I'll be doing some more with him while he's with me. Regarding the stair gate, I think in the last two weeks or so, he has only jumped it once, which was the other day when he must have smelt the food I was preparing. His confidence and feeling secure here have improved so much, it's wonderful to witness. He is such a lovely dog, with a beautiful soul, a loving personality, and eyes so expressive, it's as if he's speaking to you. This afternoon Reggie has his pre-op check with the vet for his neutering booked for next week. All being well, his ringworm has cleared so they can go ahead.

Great update. He really does sound like the perfect little hound. Hope all goes well at the vets and that soon his op will be done and then he can find his forever sofa.

Reggie got on great at the vets this afternoon for his pre-op check. His skin has cleared enough for his neutering next week. The vet he saw this time said he could possibly have a yeast skin infection, so they'll be doing a test, and in the meantime he'll be continuing treatment with malaseb, which can be used for that as well as ringworm. I'll also keep up the coconut oil, which is great for both too and which he loves eating. He's put on 1kg since his last weigh in at the beginning of the month, so he's now 22.5kg. He was perfectly behaved at the vets, enjoyed the treats she gave him, and showed off how sweetly he gives his paw for more treats. Now he's having stretchy roachy snooze.

Really great updates and photos. You've given him a really nice write-up which makes it hard to resist him. Let's hope it's not too long after his op before he finds a forever home

The samples taken for analysis on Reggie's skin infection should take around two weeks to come back as they need to do a culture in the lab. The vet who took the samples said the rate at which Reggie is gaining weight is good, but although he has the right amount of body fat, he could develop more muscle and continue gaining weight so he reaches around 24kg so he has another 1.5kg to gain. Reggie loves his new Kong toy that came in the post this week. He had been playing with a similar one that my dogs already had when he first got here. It was a bit worn and Reggie properly deaded it, which is why I got this new one. He's been trying to dead this one too, but hopefully it'll last a while. I've discovered Reggie loves what I call 'free rides' on the sofa - when he's on it and it needs moving when I'm hoovering. He's showing more of his cheeky side the more he settles. He has started jumping the stair gate a couple of times again, but not because he wants to be with me due to separation anxiety, just because he can. He jumped it the other day to go back into the lounge to be with my other dogs when he was with me in the kitchen. I've gone back to keeping a closer eye on him now. I've been praising Reggie on walks when he sees dogs without barking to say hello. He did bark at a couple of my neighbour's Shih-Tzus when we were out earlier. With my neighbour's agreement we came closer to say hello and I told Reggie to be polite and praised him for not barking as we did. It's clear his barking is his way of saying hello and he play bowed and had a very waggy tail as we got closer. When we later saw a couple of Westies in the distance on a field I praised him for not barking and he got all the way to them with no barks at all and a lovely hello. Their walker turned out to be a neighbour of mine, walking her friend's dogs so we stopped for a chat and Reggie was very polite. Later on another field, we saw a couple of Jack Russells and again I praised Reggie for not barking as soon as he saw them in the distance. He was doing brilliantly and hadn't barked at all until we got quite close and the Jack Russells unfortunately barked at him and he barked back and pulled a little on the lead. He loves being praised as well as being food motivated to do what he's asked so I don't think it's going to be hard to get him to stop his hello barking business. Here he is snuggling on the sofa with Alfie earlier today: Last night he was smiling in his sleep, which I thought was incredibly sweet:

Thank you for your lovely comments. Reggie really is so easy to love and care for. He's so well behaved and so soppy with giving love and cuddles, it's impossible not to adore him. On Wednesday, Reggie had his neutering at the vets. The vets and staff loved him and gave him special treatment after his op, allowing him to spend time in the staff room getting lots of fuss, which he loved. His op went well and he wasn't woozy after as I'd expected, though after his painkiller the following morning he was a bit dozy as you can see in this picture below. He's managing brilliantly with his cone, which I keep on when I'm not able to watch him in case he licks the area. But so far, he's been leaving it alone. On Friday, he had his post op check at the vets and they are pleased he's healing perfectly. He has another post op check at the end of next week so fingers crossed he'll be fine. He's managing great with only super short trips outside to do his business. I expect the painkiller is helping slowing him down and relaxing him, but today is the last day of his painkiller and tomorrow I've just got a third of the usual dose for him so hopefully he'll still be okay taking it easy, but he can walk a little more so that'll probably help. Over the last couple of days, sometimes when we've got back from walking up and down the road for a couple of minutes for him to do his business, he's taken to standing by the boot of my car. I think he's trying to tell me he wants to go out in the car, as this is what Jack does to say he wants to go on an outing. It's really lovely as after his outing to be castrated, he still wants to get back in the car. He tried a small piece of paddywhack for the first time today as a treat after his dinner and he loved it. I only gave him a little piece as his stomach is still settling after going back on to his usual food after a couple of days of the recovery diet after his op. Here are a few pictures of him I took at the beginning of the week before his op.
