Just heard from Emma now Gemma's new Mum, they all absolutely adore her, Gemma also adores them especially the children. They let her off lead for the first time today and she was as good as gold, doing her pocket rocket routine but coming back when called . She has a new cave bed and hopefully a picture is attached of her in said bed

OMdoG! I don't know how I missed the fact that Emma/Gypsy had found her Forever family already. Pocket-rocket-adoption in more ways than one!!! Lovely photos of Gypsy with her new family I do hope Emma's relinquishing owners read these updates and see the photos of the pocket rocket zappinjg around happily. I hope that will enable them to feel better about their decision to find her a new, more active+++ home. A calmer, more chilled dog is out there waiting from them Another foster brilliantly done Toni

Just a little update on Emma, who was Gypsy for less than 24 hours and is now Gemma!
It's been a week since we drove her back to Gosport. She was an angel in the car and sat quite happily between my 2 children Jessica and Luke.
It's been a fantastic week. Gemma is exactly as Toni described - a pocket rocket! I've been pleasantly surprised at how chilled she is once she has had one of her crazy moments! We've walked many miles this week with her on the lead and she has been great.
Yesterday was the day earmarked to let her off of her lead. We are fortunate enough to back onto a secure field so this was the obvious starting point. Armed with liver cake, balls on ropes and a squeaky toy we let her off. Within seconds we were all in hysterics! This little pocket rocket is one crazy dog and I felt quite emotional with happiness watching her run and chase the children-she is sooooo fast!!
So she has learnt this week exactly where all our slippers, cuddly toys and Barbie dolls are! We have learnt that we must keep said toys and slippers well out of Gemma's reach!
We have also learnt that if we leave our seat on the sofa for more than 5 seconds the space will be filled with Gemma before you can say pocket rocket!!
Gem is just a delight and I'm hoping she is as happy as us. Thank you SLR and the lovely Toni x

That is such a lovely update. It's so heartwarming to hear what joy these special rescue dogs bring to their new forever homes. I'm sure that Toni will be glowing with pride that the little girl she helped on her way is proving to be the perfect dog for you and your family. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date with how she's getting on. Foster dogs take a piece of our hearts with them and it makes us very happy to hear that they are also happy

Hi, it was my parents that had to unfortunately rehome Emma/Gemma. It was a really hard decision with lots of tears shed. I have followed this thread, with even more tears, but the see her enjoying herself with the other dogs whilst being fostered and then to see her rehomed with a lovely family with young children has made me realise that it was the right decision. She will have a great time with her new family and pocket rocket is definitely the right nickname for her!

It's good that Emma/Gemma's new family posted that update so you could see how happy she is and that she's gone to a great new home. It must have been awful having to give her up and I hope it's some consolation to see how well everything has turned out

Hi and welcome Gemmasmum. It is lovely to hear how dogs are doing in their new homes and little Gemma has certainly landed on her paws. I am sure you will all have great fun with her and she with you. Glad she has got her paws firmly on the sofa.

It must have been awful for your parents to have given her up, but please assure them that she has gone to a wonderful home and is very happy. Can you also thank them for all the wonderful work that they obviously put into her recall training. She has the best recall of any dog that I have known

This is the best bit about SLR...matching the right home to the hound in need. First time round it wasn't quite right (as sometime happens, although rare in the case of SLR), but the experience gained helped form an opinion on what she needed. The Sandancer family obviously love (present tense you notice, as it's clear they do still love her) Emma and though it was a heart-rending decision, they did the right thing by her. Having met the wee girl, I know I'd be stressed out with such an active hound...give me the lazy ones any day! But instantly, on the beach with Toni during the hand-over) we could see that a family with kids would work. I hope you find some playful doggy friends for her too. Please continue to share updates (and we can't wait to see her again on one of the H&D walks really soon).

Gosh, all these updates are so lovely and it makes you a wee bit choked for her original family.
We collected Emma from them and know at first hand how devasted they were at having to part with her, how much they loved and cared for her. She was just so young, energetic and strong so it was the most sensible and loving thing they could do.
Perhaps in a few months they will be able to offer a space to a much quieter, older dog who will fit in with their life style,

Great update on the lovely Gemma. So pleased that she is fitting in so well with her new family. As Loz said - hope to see her on one of the SLR walks.
