Charlie went back to the Vet this morning to have his wound checked. It is healing nicely, but not ready to be exposed to his tongue. We have to make sure he can't get at it, even for a couple of minutes, or else the healing will be put back. So he has to wear the jumper for a few more days....(he chewed through the strap of Romi's excellent leg protector)

Ooops, naughty Charlie. Hope the jumper does the trick and keeps his tongue away from his elbow until it is healed.

Ella also ate a leg protector. It was unharmed when George used it - destroyed in minutes by destruct-a-pup

I think someone out there needs to invent gum shields for hounds so they can't chew their dressings off More healing & leave it alone vibes for cheeky Charlie

Charlie's wound has healed up now and he no longer has to wear any protective t-shirts etc.
Consequently he can chase around with Hugo or Lorna when out on our walks as much as he likes.
The result is a much calmer boy at home between walks, which is nice for all of us.
He is still very keen on food, and has put on a few pounds, so his ribs and hip bones are not so prominent.
He has built some muscle too, and may even have grown a bit. He is as tall as Lorna now. I'm sure he was shorter than her when he came!
We definitely feel he would like the company of another dog is his future home...he nearly always lies down close to one of the others to snooze, and is always interested in what they are doing. He would like to lounge on the sofa with us, he quite likes his cuddles! Out on our walks he is always friendly to other dogs we meet, and is not so pushy as Hugo about trying to get them to play. He is not as adventurous as Lorna and Hugo, often hanging back close to us when they go off exploring, and his recall is good.

pleased to hear that Charlie is recovering well and hope that he keeps that tongue off the wound for long enough for it to heal quickly!

Sorry! I misread it and only saw that he no longer was wearing t-shirts. That's good news!

Charlie has calmed down a bit now he is getting lots of play out on walks, even if it is sometimes "get Charlie" by the other two! We don't feel so bad asking him to calm down and give Hugo a chance to snooze when at home. Somehow he has started to squeeze onto our two-seater settee in the evening for a snooze between us. Fortunately he doesn't find it too comfortable so doesn't outstay his welcome! He still likes to be close to Hugo or Lorna: Today he came with me on a Home Check and behaved very well, meeting the resident Lurcher with respect, and was quite relaxed about cuddles from the small children.

I can't believe he is still with us. Somewhere out there is a Lurcher who needs a playmate.

The lovely boy came on the walk last Sunday with 40+ dogs and behaved very well. He did a little exploring with some of the others, but generally kept a good eye on where we were in the group, and came when he was called. We still think he would like to be with another dog, but probably with the cat issue, if it was a confident cat who would give him a belt on the nose to put him in his place, I think he would respect that, as he is a bit of a wuss at times. Here is a lovely shot taken this morning This afternoon we walked with Terry and Wendy, and it is an on-lead walk along a busy road to get to their preferred walking area. Charlie was not bothered by the traffic, and walks very quietly on the lead. He does enjoy a chase-around off it though!
