Thanks everyone for all your messages. Not a peep out of Poppy over night - she must have been so tired after her journey here and with all those other new things to deal with. She is so loving and relaxes into cuddles instantly. Her recall is excellent. Have been over the fields this morning and she socialises well with other people and their dogs. Am keeping her muzzle on when out. I was expecting problems with her having to adjust to another home, but so far, no probs - unless this is just the honeymoon period !

Sounds like she has settled in lovely. She's come on so much from when I first got her as she was too scared to even go out for a wee when she first arrived at mine. And it took a while to trust anyone! She does love a cuddle though doesn't she? Haha sounds like your already wrapped round her paw! I loved her to bits and was distraught when I handed her over to David yesterday and without a doubt would of kept her forever if I hadn't had the hiccups with my own too or if my children were a little older. Give her a big sloppy from me please and I'll look forward to seeing more piccy's of her soon. Xx

Great news Jane to hear that Poppy settled well yesterday, she is such a sweetheart, I was quite taken with her! It was lovely to meet you yesterday, and thank you so much for volunteering to foster for SLR! As I said yesterday we are all at the end of the phone for any advice, please don't be afraid to put up any questions on the forum - no question is silly! Look forward to reading your updates on how Poppy is doing. Hope Russ manages to keep control of himself

Thanks `luvmyfurryfriends` and `moopops`. Russ has given up botherin` `er - I reckon its cos she`s too tall for him and he`s getting on in years. Only had one query about how much food to give her and I`ve now managed to talk to Pen about that, so all ok for now. Will try and put some pics up soon. Jane

So sorry to see that she had to be moved, but I know Penny put 110% into it. Sometimes a dog just wants to be top dog and not share their wears! Sorry I wasn't at home this morning Jane, but glad you got to talk to Penny. I am back to work now, although still catching up. your oldie lad looks lovely. About that Honeymoon period, yep they bide their time and try it on in around 15 days. So, be top dog yourself. xxx

Morning all. I`ve never known a dog as loving as this one - she is sooooooo touchy feely! Whether this is just a plot on her part to soften me up and get the upper hand I`m not sure - I`ll let you know when the 15 days is up. I had a cat once that was absolutely heaven for the first 3/4 days then did a complete turnaround. She is so obedient (almost too obedient and one wonders if its through fear or has she just been trained superbly?). She really loves other dogs and people - doesn`t seem to have any fears there. She always comes when I call her - she`s better than Russ for that - he tends to have selective hearing. Took some pics on my phone this morning - will see if they upload. Jane PS - thanks for the Advocate Rachel - received this morning. oh dear - they`re a bit small - I`ll try and make them bigger next time, but you can click on them to enlarge them a bit. Jane

She doesn`t like people with sticks - met a lovely old man over the fields this morning with his JRT, but he had a walking stick and Poppy was very nervous of him. Makes one wonder what happened in her past.

Sadly we do know quite a bit about Poppy's past, and yes, it included children and sticks!

Well so far, so good. Still can`t believe just how lovely Poppy is; not only is she the cuddles queen but she`s so obedient as well - this doesn`t deter from her playful side, always willing to have a game. She`s well socialised with other dogs and her second favourite thing has got to be running and having a romp with other dogs, and when I say `that`s enough` or `no` she always obliges. I caught her on my bed yesterday and just said `Poppy off` and she immediately got off. Feeding no probs - she eats with Russ and doesn`t take his food (although I always make sure I monitor them). She`s got a dear little squiney noise she makes when she wants a cuddle, a walk or wants me to put out the light and stop reading at night. A delivery man called yesterday so I shut the internal door so the dogs couldn`t get out and when I went back in Poppy was backing herself up the stairs nervously - the man had a deep, loud voice so I assume it was that. She was a bit nervous over the park this morning when I was speaking to a man that had one of those things that throws a ball a long way - I think she thought it was a stick. But as soon as he put it behind his back, she relaxed and said hello to him. Poppy is a real poppet ! Meant to ask - should I book her an appointment with the vets for her neutering which is supposed to be done soon? Cos they will want to check her over first.

Hi Jane, lovely update, but please beware, she is treat aggressive. She came out of season approximately 5 weeks ago, so can't be neutered for another 5 weeks. We can either wait, or rehome her with a neutering agreement. Lovely piccies Jane. x

Got in a flap with photos - sorry, I put them up and saw they were too small so tried again and it all went wrong - will try again later.
I`m aware of her being food/treat aggressive - so far she`s been ok with dinner times - doesn`t try to take Russ`s food and will wait until I say ok to go ahead. With treats its been `one for Poppy, one for Russ` etc. without problems. I am being cautious and vigilant though as I know there was a problem with another dog hiding a treat.
Regarding the neutering, when do you think I should make an appointment - just worried in case the vets are booked up and say they can`t do it for months.

Just an update - Well we`ve got to the 15 day mark and so far so good ! Its been difficult in this hot weather to find a shady walk - luckily our park at Hayling has lots of trees and we can almost get all the way round in the shade. This girl has obviously learned that being loving and submissive gets her a long way - its so hard to resist that cute little wine and the sad expression of yearning staring up at you. But if I stay firm she gives up. No going on my bed or the sofa. Had a little accident last night but that`s because she wouldn`t do a pee last thing at night in the garden - probably my fault because I didn`t stay out there long enough with her. When she does eventually go I give her a treat and praise her, but no luck last night. One night I did walk her round the block in the dark and she did go, but its not something I intend to make a habit of. Feeding is going well - she seems to know which is her feeding station now and doesn`t bother Russ. Mind you I always stand guard. She had a shower yesterday after watching Russ have his - no problems at all. Still problems with separation anxiety which I`m working on. She follows me everywhere. First time I left her, she escaped from her crate ! Found out later its because I hadn`t secured the bottom latch and she forced her way out. Am working on leaving her in her crate for a little longer each day.
