Well he's here. Apart from us being delayed, taking over 30 minutes to get over the Dartford Bridge, all went according to plan. Thanks to Jayne, as always for getting little man out, and Audrey for doing a huge motorway stint up to us at Junction 4. We took Paddy pup for Audrey to get a puppy fix though. And Margey arrived minutes after we did, so wonderful timing. He's a lovely little chap, but does need his two lumps removing as he is a veeeeeeery friendly little chap at the mo. Only around 21" at the shoulder, and about 2 years old. He met Paddy with a and a wag and really was well behaved in the car on the way back. He had a little cry and tried to get into the front seats, but then relaxed and laid down, and not a peep. I have a few photos of lovely Caspar and little man on my mobile so will download them shortly. He's whippety, but with the same look as little Joe. Way back there somewhere in a couple of generations there is a staffie look, but he is all whippet with a big heart. Even the slight arched whippet back, not dissimilar to Jessie. Here they are With the lovely Caspar

:)Well Digit is here! He had been named before he arrived, so Digit he is! He is a little darling, so much smaller than my other 3. He seems to have been really cared for and had some training. He can sit and when he tried to follow me upstairs, telling him to stay and pointing down turned him around without any fuss. He can hold his own, thank goodness, and bounces back from the inquistions of the pack. All have had a good butt smell and quite a bit of Lurcher play and racing in and out. Caspar has a habit unfortunately of barking when he wants to get a message through (he used to do that to Taz in his first months) so it has been rather noisy here, however Caspar really wants to play with him, and Beauty, however Taz has kept his distance and come to me for comfort and reassurance. Digit definitely gets on with other dogs after his experience today! When he arrived he wee'd about 15 times and then the other 3 wee'd on top of his so we were nearly awash in the garden. He was inquisitive but not at all pushy or concerned at new surroundings. He had a warm bath with tea tree oil and was really good, only trying to get out the bath once, and again he bounced right back with a good few shakes and shivers and then off to explore and play. I also got a few mink oil sprays on him to help bring his coat up from the kennel stay. He was very interested in the food preparation for tea and although I stayed with him and fed him separately, he had the same as the others, who are moving to raw food. He had some kibble, pureed fruit and veg and small chunks of pork belly - he went for the kibble first and put 2 pieces of pork on the floor, however soon went back and decided he liked it! The bowl was almost emptied, and it had Drontal so a real result. He played with the others whilst we ate and has since followed me around a bit and we have had some tummy tickling, on the back legs akimbo of course (Digit not me!). He is currently lying next to me in the study having a snooze and shortly we will go for our evening walk. He looks very healthy and the impending visit to the vet will confirm. Some early photos follow. Love Margey

I cross-posted with Margey so hadn't read Margey's post above before writing the below (if you can follow that!) So glad to see Digit has had a good start at yours Margey I can imagine your garden awash with pee-on-pee Lots of ear ruffles to be passed round from me to all your hounds please, with some extra special one for little Digit Anyway below is what I'd posted: SO glad the handover went well Jenny What a lovely photo of little man standing under Caspar's tummy!!! Well I can second what Jenny has said, this little fellow seems very, very friendly. He didn't seem at all phased by the hugely busy and noisy car park where Jayne and I did the handover (due to a mega Race For Life going on it was almost as noisy as a World Cup football match) and he seemed quite happy to be around Jayne's little Millie. He settled down in the back of the car with what felt to me like such a sense of resignation. I have to say that sense of resignation really got through to me and I felt incredibly choked up driving round the M25 thinking about how close he'd come to being PTS. It really brought home to me just how these 'Death Row' hounds have simply NO control over what's going to happen to them next. They are, in that respect, totally in the hands of whatever human has charge of their care Well, thanks to SLR, this little guy is in safe hands now and can look forward to a bright and settled future ;D And as for my Paddy 'puppy fix' today I am lost for words. That young man is TO DIE FOR Why he hasn't been snapped up yet is completely beyond me Hope little fellow soon settles in with you Margey. I look forward to following his progress from kennels to forever sofa! Audrey x

Well we had a really good first night. I was a little concerned about him bonding with the pack and struggled with whether to crate him, however decided to put his bed and blanket in the hounds bedroom and monitor. Well there wasn't a peep from 10.30 pm to 6.30 am when I got them up! ;D Digit is a very confident young man, very 'matter of fact' and definitely not shy or whiny. I would say that he 'struts' rather than walks and boy is he fast. Walking last night we had 2 each and Digit was out in front, really strutting and nearly pulling my arm off - I put this down to being in kennels and just being really pleased to be out and about. This morning I took all 4 out on my own and I don't think I'll ever need to lift weights to exercise again. He just strode ahead, sniffing occasionally and weeing a lot and then stode home. Not even sure that he noticed the other 3! He is not clingy but of course likes a cuddle and likes his food - this morning a bit of kibble, puree of fruit and veg and sardines in tomato sauce. He likes being out in the garden, which is where he is at the moment although the other 3 are all at my feet in the study. He has been totally clean in the house and through the night. He will be a total joy Not sure about the Digit name. Been trying Digit, Digi, Mr Digit ...... but he does not react all that much and it does not seem to suit his character and temperament. Being so confident and fast in everything (poo is really quick and sometimes on the move) he is more like Rambo! Love Margey nb Jenny, the mounting seems to have settled!

Well done for fostering him Margey. He's a stunner and I reckon he will be snapped up quickly - what good condition he's in. Hope he gives you as much joy as Joe did to us. My god you are brave doing 4dogs for a walk! Enjoy

Great update Margey. Stacey is keeping a close eye on his thread. Once he has been de-nutted it might be a good idea for her to visit to see how their little lad gets on with him. I agree, nothing seemed to phase little man (not sure about Rambo, as that gives a bit of a rough and tumble in your face impression IYKWIM ) and he greeted Paddy pup with a wag and a quick mount.

and Digit Kirk is set for the chop tomorrow (Tuesday) so think of him and wish him well. Just back from the afternoon walk and I am worn out! Digit is very interested in squirrels, but does not bark, just wants to chase. He was out in front again, head held high and his kennel coat is improving already. He would only lick an offered raw rib bone and then a raw chicken wing however he settled with a dried venison ear which after getting the hang of chomping on it, he really enjoyed. Seems this sort of treat is unknown to him. He is currently at my feet in the study so really settling in well. Love Margey

So pleased to hear he is settling well with you. He came across yesterday in the short time he was with me as one of those dogs who just gets on with things. He looks very happy with you and your pack! ;D He is one lucky chap in more ways than one, by the way. He got out of his run at the kennels once, and made his way to another dog for company. He was then put into a covered run. Apparently though he then tried to get through the tiniest gap imaginable at the top of that run and nearly hanged himself. I think the kennels staff were relieved to see him go as they were worried what he might try next!!
