Hello everyone,
Sorry I've not updated for so long; it's very remiss of me.
Daisy & Dave have been having LOTS of adventures. Daisy seems to be the instigator of most of any mischief that takes place and encourages Dave to follow. Dave looks out for his sister all the time and is very protective of her. This was very evident when Daisy was having a paddle in the lake near us and a swan started to spit and his at her. Dave waded in barking and protesting, but Daisy showed that she was quite capable of taking care of herself by having a go back at the swan. The swan decided that taking on 2 large hounds was not a challenge she wished to pursue and swam off.
These two love their walks every morning rounded off by a paddle in the lake. Daisy wasn't at all sure about this at first but gradually gained confidence and now wades in with Dave and usually stays in longer than him. He sometimes likes to lean his wet heavy body on the back of my legs whilst waiting for her! She tries to shake the excess water off her coat whilst still standing tummy high in the lake (maybe she's having a blond moment?).
We've made lots of friends (both dog and human) since these 2 joined us back in January. Everyone comments on them saying how gorgeous they are. They love to be fussed and are very sociable with other dogs - although they don't seem to like alsatians and bark at them. They also love to chase rabbits. Fortunately they've not yet caught any but Daisy (I said she was the trouble maker) caught an unsuspecting young canada goose and a baby duckling - both of whom excaped unharmed. In fact she ran off with the duckling and set it down in some grass where it sat looking very startled indeed, but swam off when I put it back in the lake.
Both of them love cuddles and if Dave is getting a fuss Daisy will come straight up and push in front of him so as not to be left out. They love being towel dried after a wet walk and will push each other out of the way (in a friendly way) to be first to be rubbed dry and/or brushed.
They love their food and will eat most things. Daisy has a penchant for blackberries at the moment which she will pick herself! Don't know how she manages it without getting prickled - they certainly hurt my fingers when I'm picking them. Dave on the other hand took a liking to a cushion - bringing it into me at about 6.15 the other morning. I can't be sure that it was him but I popped out yesterday and when I got back someone (Dave???) had chewed it and pulled the stuffing out. He does this with Fellas toys too. Although both of them sometimes pick things up and move them - slippers, ugg boots, etc. this is the only thing that has been chewed so I guess we've been lucky. As I wasn't sure who was the villain of the piece I couldn't tell either of them off. I just asked them "Who did this" and they just looked at me very innocently as if to say "it wasn't me mum".
At the moment they are both having a nap. Dave, in particular, makes nosies in his sleep. Most of the time it is tiny barking noises, but last night he was making a whining sound as they he was having a chat with someone. It's most amusing.
I'm so glad we were able to take these two on; they are real characters and give us so much love and affection and have been a real comfort to me (I lost my mum back in June and they helped keep me going and not get too down in the dumps. That may sound a bit OTT but I had to get up and take then out each morning and their walkies time is very therapeutic for me I have discovered). They make me smile every day; I'd be lost without them.
Well, that's about it for now. We hope to take them on holiday in September so I'll update you all on that when I get back.
With love from us all
