Pictures at last! If anyone's interested, I have a fine collection of photos of black and/or sandy coloured blurs, and an equally large collection of photos of empty spaces that were occupied by lurchers until I pressed the button This our bed! This our bed in the car Made to sleep on the hard floor Ham bones in the garden! Walkies! Big sis bullying me! AND she hogs the settee! Me being stoopid It's very tiring being me It's early days to say, but I think he likes it here. Hard to tell when you look at the extreme discomfort we're keeping him in. Zena's decided he's a brat (she's right at times), and is putting a lot of effort into keeping him in his place. Unfortunately for her, Ianto's worked out that her wildly wagging tail suggests it's highly unlikely that she means a word of what she says to him. He's also refusing to believe that she eats irritating younger brothers for breakfast!

Looks like a match made in heaven to me Frances ;D ;D I am sure you have made the right choice of hound with Ianto he looks so at home with Zena she must just be loving it all. Keep the photos coming in the are fantastic. How is your mum coping with two mad hounds in the house, has she left home yet. Bet she will soon fall in love with him as well I love the photo of them in the camper they are obviously ready for their holidays. ;D ;D Have they managed to catch the squirrel yet between them.

Mum just sits still when hounds are go Ianto's being very good with her - he's already learning that it's quite OK to get on the settee next to her for a cuddle, but not to get ON her for a cuddle! The squirrel is still in one piece, and so is the back door - a bit surprising considering the squirrel stands one side of the glass pulling faces at Ianto on the other Slightly worried about Zena, as she's taken to spending almost the whole day in her bed. It's difficult to say how much of this is due to Ianto's arrival, as Zena's now in a state where she's constantly listening for fireworks to go off, and it could be because of this. She's also been a bit too assertive with Ianto at times, which we've had to tell her off for. That side of things is starting to balance a bit better though, as Ianto is starting to answer her back a bit. The boy has a voice on him! Problem with sonny boy yesterday when he behaved very unpleasantly to another dog. My two were off lead and I thought I had all approaches covered where other dogs might have appeared. As it turned out I missed one, and Ianto was off like a rocket after it. He barged it about and pinned it down, and not in a playful way. The other dog was seriously distressed, and the owner was livid - don't blame him at all. I've also noticed a problem with Ianto in that he's fine with dogs off lead (apart from the incident above), but if the other dog is put on a lead, Ianto starts getting quite pushy-growly with him. Training beckons, and quickly.

Hi...he certainly looks like he's made himself at home If Zena is generally a steady, laid-back bitch with other dogs, I'd say let her tell Ianto off. It's good for young dogs (especially males who can get a bit too full of themselves) to have an older, steady bitch keeping them in line. Obviously, don't allow any bullying, but I'd let Zena lay down the 'ground rules', as it were. It's a good idea to make sure that both dogs know you support Zena in her role...then Ianto will soon learn how to behave appropriately and that none of you are going to bend to his will!! It all sounds a bit draconian ...but it does work! And the end result will be two happy dogs who know their place in the pecking order.

He is just an exuberant boy but he does need to learn that not every dog is ready, willing or able to play with him and that no means no. But he's young and you have the experience to settle him.

Zena has been more outgoing today They spent half an hour cuddled up together in front of the fire this morning. Zena's now carrying out some more 'training' - she was looking a bit stunned a minute ago as Ianto had her pinned in a very competent head lock I'd also like to know which one of them was responsible for throwing a furry blanket onto the electric fire - they're both blaming the other one. Took them out with a friend this morning who has 2 border collies - both entire males which I thought might be a problem. Ianto charged in as soon as he met them, barking and throwing his weight about (he was muzzled). By the time we'd had a 10 minute walk to the fields he was less edgy, and after another 10 minutes or so we let him off lead to join the others. He was fine playing with them, but he's already quite possessive about his 'big sis'. One of the collies was taking every opportunity to smooch with Zena, and like so many younger brothers, Ianto promptly played gooseberry! We didn't leave him off lead too long - he was becoming very pushy and mouthy again, but I'm inclined to think that was over-excitement and new experiences. He spent the rest of his time on the lead, jumping at Zena and her boyfriend whenever he thought they were getting too soppy. He's walking beautifully on a harness - no pulling at all generally, although you do need 360 degree vision in case he sees something you haven't and takes off after it. His insides are completely settled down now - everything nice and normal, so obviously any upset due to the change of home is out of the way. I'll be trying him on Nature Diet tomorrow and see if that has any effect, and then I can start to look at what's happening with his weight.

Hi Frances, I completely agree with Kate. Zena being the alfa will only do him good as she knows her limits and sets his. He hasn't had a lot of socializing as John has had to take him to the local recreation field, and not off-lead with many other dogs. It will do him good and hopefully he should learn some ground rules from them. A bit of a difficult one with unneutered males around I deffo would muzzle him off-lead for your own peace of mind. Have you started whistle and reward or clicker and reward with him And I expect you know, but high protein levels in food does make them hypo. 22% or less is the target.

I've started click and treat - generally gone well, but he doesn't like 'lie down' - very difficult to even coax him into the position. Probably too inactive for his liking His protein level may be a bit high at present, but that should be dropping over the next few days. Generally I wouldn't describe him as hypo - he's learning fast that there are times for play (and that 6 am isn't one of them), and he's a real snoozer at times. Although the over-boisterousness with other dogs is partly wanting to play, I also think it's just uncertainty around other dogs, and that will correct with experience. Bless him - he's only on his 4th full day here, and he really is a sweetie around the house. And no matter what problems I've had with him out, it's not a fraction of what I went through with Zena. And of course, he is still a baby!

are you Torchwood fans? Congrats on your new addition he is one gorgeous boy xxxx Mega-Torchwood fan The name change wasn't planned, but comments were made about our Ianto's nails looking as if they'd been painted with pink polish, and one thought led to another ;D I do actually like the name Ianto as well!

Brilliant name (though I did cry when he died!!!), Me too - bucketloads! A really good day yesterday First off, Ianto's confidence is growing in leaps. He's not following me every time I leave the room now (although activity in the kitchen still draws him like a magnet). He's also telling Zena off when she needs it - I gave them both a chewstick yesterday, and Zena tried to take his. There was no anger or nervousness just a very firm "sling yer hook Sis, it's mine" ;D Zena knew she was in the wrong, and promptly went and settled down with her own. A very nice walk, with my pair sitting quietly when we came to other dogs being walked, with only a couple of mini rumbles from Ianto. The only exception was the dog we encountered whose owner couldn't be bothered to put it on a lead Ianto was still pretty controlled until the intruder bounced at Zena, and Ianto rushed to her defence. Unfortunately he trod ON Zena in the process, so instead of being grateful she bit his ear Happy families!!! He had a good run off lead which shook a few more fidgets out of his paws. As a result, he snoozed most of the afternoon. When he woke up there were new toys to investigate - the terrible two are gradually starting to play together, although they do seem to like different toys. I find it pretty depressing that me and Ianto working as a team get dragged all over the place on the end of a tug toy by Zena - she is amazingly powerful. She can also outrun him, which I think has come as a bit of a shock to him. I'm wondering if he has some issues around water. He's been fine walking by a lake, but we went past a weir yesterday, and the water was splashing over heavily. He didn't like the noise at all - a very nervous little lad And although he didn't bother at all about fireworks until last night, we now know he doesn't like the ones that sound like a whip being cracked - he wasn't a problem, just retired to the bed under the desk and snuggled down. The switch to Nature Diet doesn't seem to have caused any problems. Be interesting to see if anything's happened with his weight when I check it Sunday. All in all, things is good

Goodoh! I think his physical fitness is probably down to the fact that he hasn't built up any weight in the time he has been with SLR. And also, he is only just regularly off lead with a runaround mate. Zena sounds like the ideal training dog for Ianto.

Zena seems so good, bless her .... as Jenny says, she's a good role model for Ianto. He'll soon settle down and it sounds like he's having a great time The 'role model' has spent this afternoon deciding that the toys in the house are HERS. ALL OF THEM. Even the new ones. She doesn't want to play with them. She never has played with most of them. But no-one else can play with them because THEY ARE HERS!!!! I got the message - the toys are hers Lots of lovely socialising for Ianto this morning, and barely a grumble Lots if lovely running off lead as well - luckily in a very big area, as he doesn't do recall when he's playing He assures me he was afflicted with sudden hearing loss - disobedient? him? never?
