;D Update from the Braintree Home for Lurchers! I have not mastered the web photos quite yet, so watch this space - son has promised to help. Jenny has very kindly offered to upload one for you all to see how Caspar (was Cracker) is settling in. It is about 10 days now but we feel he has been with us for ever. He is such a lovely boy, with a really deep boy bark! He has slept through every night without a murmur and although wanting to play, fight and chase every minute for the first week, he has now settled down a bit and rests happily (all over the place) whenever he feels like it. The photo is of a rest period in the sunshine, in the sandpit. As you can see, they love their toys. He adores a game of tug and taunts Beauty by bounding up and dangling the toy and then running away for her to chase him and grab the other end. They tussle for minutes at a time. He is very inquisitive on our lead walks and learning from the other 2 where the best smells are. He loves people and other dogs and spends much of his time looking behind him after they have walked by. Some stop and let him say hello, which is great. Tonight he said a doggie hello to 2 spaniels and a labrador puppy and did not bark once. He does pull on the lead a bit now when he sees a cat, but still does not bark. Beauty has the real hunt instinct and tries really hard to please me by not barking and trying to chase however some days are just too much for her, e.g. cat after cat after cat on the walks and then 2 squirrels on the top of a low fence and today was one of those. Caspar just looks bewildered or goes up to try to comfort her! For the last 2 days he has taken a fancy to conkers and acorns! He loves to sprint and run free in the back garden, and many thanks to husband John for working all weekend to make the whole area secure and safe - their own garden has always been secure however the back has much more running space and they love it. Caspar races with Beauty and Taz and seems to constantly have a green bottom where he slides on the grass to brake! He is still the 'Dickens' boy, always asking for more food and I would be really grateful for any advice on whether at his age (8 months) and very active it is all right to give him extra or whether he is just being a puppy and always looking for more food that he does not really need? He has taken to sitting at my feet under the kitchen table and likes to feel my legs or feet against him and he took me by surprise this evening - after our evening walk, I was taking their treats through the dining room and turned slightly to put the light on and suddenly felt 2 big paws on my back and a warm head at the back of mine! Boy is he tall when he stands up. So, we love him to bits and are truly grateful to SLR for giving us the opportunity to adopt him. Best wishes to all you Lurcher lovers out there. Margey

Ahh! I still have lovely memories of him when he stopped off here for a comfort stop when Rosa was taking him to Jenny's. He fertilised the lawn with a patch of lush green grass. What a reminder!!

:)Many thanks to Jenny for putting the photo on. Caspar is developing every day and ::)very strong for such a young man! He is fascintated by every sound and on our walks he spends a lot of time turning back to see what he has missed! He loves other dogs (although unusually barked immediately at a GSD this morning who is a big softie but very big and jet black) and wants to play with every dog he meets, and every person! Yesterday was a bit of a challenge as whilst we were walking alongside a main road, a dog owner cycled past on the opposite pavement with Rotweiler running alongside, both quite fast. (Can someone tell me how the dog wees and poos?) Well Caspar just so wanted to join in the game of course and was jumping high in the air because I kept a firm hold on his lead. We have a lot of distractions in this neighbourhood! The dogs see a lot of life and I wish I had not! Caspar masters things very quickly which is great for the good things but not so great for the not so good ..... Rain rain and more rain today and Caspar looked very stylish in his Barbour-type walking out coat - my hounds do not like the rain though so the walk was fairly quiet. Taking all 3 hounds on the local Greyhound Walk next Sunday. Should be fun. Regards Margey :

Lovely, especially the last one Where did your brindle boy come from. He is very much like my brindle boy Tag who was found in North Essex. Tag is 2.5 years.

:)Taz came from an Irish pound and was rescued by GRWE about June 2008 and brought over to England into kennels at GRWE Bedford. Nothing is known about him other than that and even his age has been assessed. We believe him to have been a working dog. He has the most gorgeous almond eyes that look deep into yours on the occasions that he does look you in the eye. We cannot believe that the first adopters in 2008 took him back to GRWE giving a reason of not being clean in the house. Neither his foster family nor us have ever found this to be the case. He is so easy to look after and likes his routines - my 90 year Mother loves him to bits. Let's hope they meet one day! Regards Margey
