how long do they keep them before they get destroyed ? is it the same rules for all kennels ? Sorry Mike, only just picked this up.
As far as I'm aware, local council pounds in the UK are obliged keep a stray dog for seven days, to allow time for its owner to reclaim it. After the expiry of this period the dog can legally be destroyed, but in our experience this decision tends to be very much at the discretion of the kennels concerned, with many thankfully bending over backwards to keep the dog alive whilst trying to secure a suitable rescue place for it.

... Just to let everyone know that the vet confirmed that Bruce was closer to 2 years old than 10 months !! I did think he was older .... the vet gave him a thorough check up and said he was a very fit and healthy young dog.... he has had his vax, been wormed and frontlined... I will be picking him up at 2pm and i think his bark may just be a little higher ;D

Nice to hear he is back with you Kate and is on the mend those collars are nothing but a nuisance. I know when I had little Theo as a foster he was done at my vets, its was so easy after having Belle spayed he had no collar or any dressings just his stitches. I suppose different vets have different ways.

Plastic collar is no more ......... my house wouldn't be standing if i had left it on ;D but he is very good and leaving his stitches alone... .. Just another quick update - on first assessing this boy i thought he was very collie like but after a week have discovered that he definately is much more like a greyhound .... very laid back, quite lazy, not greedy, one good walk a day and he would be a very happy hound. So, saying all that, he would be suited to a family or an older couple - he now walks very nicely using a harness and his recall is very good. He obviously is a big dog so can be strong at times but has caused me no concerns - he greets all dogs large or small with a very waggy tail and so far hasnt chased anything whilst off lead. After settling down a bit he is absolutely fine with the cats in the house - even shared their dinner with them last night He will only chase them if they run from him in the garden - but he means them no harm ... If anyone would like my two dogs so that i can keep Brucey then please feel free ...... ;D Kate x

... 'Handsome Young Coach Potato' - thats much more like it - i think he has just managed to venture off of the sofa twice today !!!!!!!!!! ;D
But just to add, this lad is a very clever boy - responds to everything i say... does as he is told (unlike Indy and Dodge) xx

... well we are back from our mini break away - Brucey went to stay with Aunty Nicky and her greyhounds (as agreed with Barney). Apart from having flu we had a fun holiday and Bruce slotted in perfectly with Dougie and Brian - he was a bit dominant towards Dougie but with a firm NO he soon backed off ... he was ok with their cat in the house but would DEFINATELY chase him if in the garden.... he was also a bit dominant in the park yesterday with an alsation, but this could just be because he is young and only just castrated .... he is very responsive so with a firm owner he will soon settle ....
Thats about it, we are glad to have all the boys home again under one roof .....
Time for a nice glass of red !!!!!

.. just a quick update on Brucey Bonus - he is still the absolute perfect house guest - half the time you dont realise he is here until you fall over him ... he loves a run in the morning with Indy but then is quite happy to laze around for the rest of the day ... he sleeps in his crate everynight and is quiet and relaxed.
He is very pleased to see me in the morning and can be a bit bouncy, but soon settles. He is an absolute dream .....
Whoever ends up with this chap is going to be a very very lucky dog owner - i will be soooooooooo jealous .....

Went up the Common this morning for 2 hours with Indy and Bruce - for the past 3 weeks i have muzzled Bruce as not too sure how he would react to different situations - now, knowing him very well, decided to walk him without the muzzle AND GUESS WOT .... perfect .... No bunny chasing, no lurcher mouthing, no growling.... just mad lurcher running ;D I LOVE THIS BOY But I will not fail, i love being a foster mummy and can't wait to see him happily settled with his forever family xx

Just another quick update - even though this boy is big i have been lead training him for the past 3 weeks and i must say he now walks really well and doesnt try to pull you over .... he mastered it very quickly and doesnt even need the harness any more Recall is coming along too - most of the time he comes back to his name, every now and then he has selective hearing, but that is only when a dog is walking towards him and he wants to go and say hello - which he does perfectly ... With regard to the cats, he now doesnt chase them at all .... he has accepted them and they have accepted him, he just ignores them which is brilliant. As i type he is laying across my feet - he is a very loyal and loving dog and would really make the perfect companion ... he wants to be near you all the time, but not at all in your face (unlike my mad spaniel!!!). After 3 weeks here he is now enjoying Lurcher play in the garden with Indy which is great to watch .... but he also is fabulous at sunbathing ... going to try and take a picture of him with his shades on lazing in the garden ... Will update again tomorrow with some new piccies of this handsome boy xxx

Have just tried to upload the latest pics of Brucey but the computer says NO !!!! so will try again in the morning .... Once again we have had the perfect day with Bruce .... We went for a long walk this morning where he met lots of dogs big and small .... he runs to greet them which can scare the owners a bit, but he is only being friendly .... he hasnt got a bad bone in his body - a true gent .....
After 5 mins of mad running he plods along behind you just like a greyhound .... he really is such a sweety ... I will miss him so much when he finds his forever sofa....
He hasnt bin raided, he hasnt counter surfed, he is not greedy, he is not in your face.... but he farts for england ;D ;D ;D
