"We got an emergency call this afternoon to take on a black whippet x lurcher as she was rescued from a put to sleep situation. The rescue that saved her are inundated so asked if we could help. Poor mite is about 10 - 11 months old and quite small. Approximately 21 inches at the shoulder, and looks as if she may be nearly fully grown. Definitely whippet shaped, and with the whippet gait when she walks. Jet black with a lovely white blaze running from her chest to under her chin. She is so quiet, and just walked off calmly with us. Her time was almost up. We haven't secured a foster home for her yet and she is staying at Uncle Barneys for a day or so to assess her before she is fostered out. We will be looking for a foster home, or straight to home. So....... What shall we call her? I liked Lottie - but Uncle Barney said "No". Here she is whispering sweet nothings in Seamus' ear; and poor Seamus with his bad leg couldn't run away

Cheers, Mark

Yeah, riigghht Yep John. We keep reminding ourselves of our statement every time we are asked to save a put to sleep!! Both Woody and Missy wouldn't be here without all of us crossing the boundaries. But we do do it safely And - 2 to 3 weeks will come around ;D

The little lass is proving to be very affectionate - she craves attention, but isn't pushy in search of it.
She's getting on well with the resident hounds, especially Murphy, who appears to particularly enjoy her company.
She went into her crate & stayed there quite happily whilst I took my lot for their evening constitutional, & there have been no accidents in the home-kennel since her arrival.
I haven't told her yet, but she'll be having a bath in the morning when I have my shower - mebbe she'll be a tad less affectionate towards me after that experience! ;D

The little lass had a bath this morning, & still appears to love her Uncle Barney, even after he inflicted that indignity on her! ;D

She's really well behaved, goes into her crate without any problem, & there have been no accidents in the house.
She also possesses a hearty appetite, finishing off the bit of breakfast the two Greys left after cleaning her own bowl.
I know that 'tis often said when dogs come into rescues' care, but this little lady really is very special.

She is just gorgeous. She is like a mini Frank! A pretty girl like her deserves a pretty name - I liked Freya suggested earlier.

She is lovely - you've headed the thread Missy- what about that? That is indeed what she'll be called for the duration of her stay with me, which may well be a tad longer than expected since she's come into season.
We're all off to Dorset again tomorrow for a couple of days, where she'll be confined to barracks for obvious reasons, but will have the run of Mo's 100' garden. We'll be back on Thursday, when she's booked in for her first vax.
I groomed her with a grooming glove this morning when she'd dried off from her bath, & she absolutely loved it.
This girl is a real poppet who hasn't put a foot wrong, & whoever adopts her will feel that they've won the lottery!

I couldn't be selective. I don't envy, or blame, you one bit. We know that John, & quite honestly we frequently feel exactly the same.
At the end of the day 'selection' boils down to which hound is in our judgement most in need, bearing in mind of course the limited parameters we need to work within, as we are only a small organisation with only so many resources - hence Jenny's current appeal for more fosterers.
'Tis often heart-rending to leave deserving cases behind when we take a particular hound on board, but, right or wrong, we have to stand by our judgement.
What it must be like for Kaye at Lurcher Link dealing with a far greater volume of dogs, & therefore a far greater amount of frequently snap decisions, heaven only knows.

Missy travelled well on our three hour journey yesterday.
That's yet another box ticked for the little angel!
