Jack came into SLR with his litter brother Jess from a private home. They were being left very long hours and were paintfully thin and also very unfit. We took the decision to split the pups and Jack is in foster in Stevenage, Herts. Jack came in at a poorly 16 kilos but has done remarkably well with his foster family. He is currently living with two lurchers in the family and is a very friendly and loving boy. Jack stands at approximately 23 inches at the shoulder. He will be neutered once he has built up some strength and put on some weight, neutering will be needed around 10 months old. We are looking for a home where there are already dogs in the family, and Jack seems fine with children. As Jack has already been subjected to being left for very long hours we are looking for a family where one half works part-time.
If you think you can offer this lovely boy a permanent and loving home then contact us. All potential adopters will be home-checked.

Jack and Jess have been home alone for a few months and have been finding their own way to amuse themselves. This has resulted in their owner realizing that he cannot leave them for 10 hours a day! They have just arrived in our care and one will be fostered in Kent and one in Essex. Both will need feeding up and the little one is paintfully thin. I will post more later when they have settled. Here are two lovely boys who are just babies and shouldn't be left home alone for this length of time. We are going to separate them but both would be okay to go to homes with other dogs around.

They are painfully thin, especially little Jess who is being fostered with Ian and Lesley. Here are the first piccies of picking them up. Once again thanks to Laylah for taking them in, getting them to the vets and being number one stop. Doug for transporting them all the way up to South Mimms, Ian for transporting one pup down to Kent, and Jules, my driver and confident for the day. We consoled each other that these pups were now in the best possible place. And lastly thanks to Jane and hubby and girls for taking in little Jack who just looked so relieved to be finally settled for the day. Little Jess, the smallest of the two And poor little terrified Jack. Whilst we waited for Sticky to arrive home we opened a bag of Burns and let little Jack have another feed. He had already cleared Jules of her pocket of treats. One biscuit dropped down the side of the seat and he was frantic to regain it

Just got back from the vets with Jack....he weighs 16.75 kilos - whilst that's not as bad as his brother, it's still not good for a growing boy Our vet has recommended we start from scratch with the vaccinations - he reckons it's dubious whether they've had any attention at all An update from Jack's foster family in Stevenage. All in all Jack's a lovely little lad - very sweet natured. He's clean in the house, no accidents yet. A dream in the car - just lays down. Comes when called in the garden...fabby-do, haven't had one of those yet! Despite always looking for food and eating as if it's the very last meal he'll ever get...he's not pushy, I sat at lunchtime with some pizza and he just sat by my knees, didn't try to muscle in, good boy. We've had to get our heads in puppy mode again, and remember to clear work surfaces etc but apart from having a quick sniff if I'm out in the kitchen he hasn't tried to take anything or raid the bin. He will make some lucky person a very loyal pet. I can't wait to see him settled in his forever home. Know what you mean about the names he doesn't seem like a 'Jack' to me - he's been nicknamed 'Squirt' here. I have some more piccys but I still can't find my camera lead

Another update from Jane. Hooray! Just found a spare cable that will do.... this pic really doesn't show up how thin he is, his little hip bones jut right out... and a handsome head shot... He is gorgeous! I'll try to get some more action shots - the ones on my phone are all blurry after all that. He doesn't sit still - typical puppy...inquisitive, wants to play and loves people. Oh and did I mention he's cute?

Ok, what can I say about this little chap? He's very friendly and affectionate, with a really waggy tail and heaps of kisses. He's been with us for about 3 weeks now and is beginning to put on weight and, as the vet noted today, to build a little muscle tone on the tops of his legs. Due to his previous circumstances, he hasn't had a whole lot of training, but he's a smart cookie and is learning fast. He knows 'sit' and 'down', and will do these quite readily especially if there's a treat on offer. Toilet training is coming along. He mostly wees in the garden now, but still has just the odd slip up -usually if we're not watching and miss his signs. He loves people...and all the attention it brings. He's playful, and likes cuddly toys and tug toys, fusses and cuddles. He's very good with being handled - likes being brushed, lets me clip his claws, look at his teeth etc. Lead walking is coming along too. He pulls a bit, but not in a bad way...just so eager to explore and sniff everything. He gets really excited about walkies and is always willing to have his coat put on! He has turned out to be a supreme bin raider (but what self respecting lurcher isn't? ;D) but if his new owners are vigilant and remove the opportunity, it shouldn't be a problem. He is still very much a puppy...with all that entails, and he so deserves a loving home.

Wow, hasn't he grown, looks much more like a little dog than a puppy now - if you know what I mean.
Gorgeous

He's looking lovely. Not keeping him then? No. (In an ideal world, where I'd won the lottery and money was no object...then yes, I think I'd be begging to keep him )

Just a little update. Toilet training coming on in leaps and bounds....no accidents all weekend, despite a house full of visitors. 2nd vax was last week and he weighed in at 19.2 kg. Loves everyone, doesn't seem to have any baggage. ;D Playing in the snow this morning:
