Ta muchly for posting the pics Jenny - greatly appreciated. x
Sandy is indeed lovely Heather - I couldn't have wished for a more appropriate companion for Annie, who is benefiting from getting the offlead exercise she couldn't have with Winnie - their chasey games are a joy to watch.
Something Sandy has in common with most of my own hounds over the years is that she's not at all interested in toys, just in games such as running with Annie, & trying to catch woodpigeons as they taxi for takeoff!

A brief update on the adorable Sandy three months down the line:
We've discovered that Sandy has a very loud bark! Thus far it's only been deployed against felines lurking on top of high fences or on shed roofs.
Our 5.00 a.m. walks are of course now by torchlight, & Sandy has adapted to this without any problem - she just loves to be off-lead in the park or the secure field, & her recall is as reliable as ever.
A "Winnie-ism" has emerged recently: Sandy tries to snaffle flying insects - her favourite target is bumblebees! Happily she has not yet experienced what it's like to get one in her mouth.
Following the recent discussion on healthy foods, both Sandy & Annie have happily accepted both grated carrot & raw eggs as a regular part of their diet. They were not, however, greatly enamoured of broccoli, so that's now off the shopping list.
All in all, the quality of life in our home-kennel has been hugely enhanced by Sandy's arrival on the scene, & both Annie & myself are very grateful to have her in our lives.

A lovely update Barney. So pleased all is happy in the home kennel. Just one question - why on earth do you go out at five am and not wait for daylight?

A lovely update Barney. So pleased all is happy in the home kennel. Just one question - why on earth do you go out at five am and not wait for daylight? I am thinking the same thing. I walk at 5am with a headtorch so my lot can have the woods to themselves. ..as soon as light appears it gets really busy ...our afternoon walk is busier so they take turns in being offlead. ... A lovely update Barney

Just one question - why on earth do you go out at five am and not wait for daylight? 'Tis a matter of convenience Heather - we generally have the whole of the park & the woods to ourselves, apart from the wildlife. The only exception is usually a police GSD & his handler who arrive in the park shortly after 5.30 a.m.
During our walks later in the day we sometimes encounter dogs whose owners are a sandwich short of a picnic when it comes to knowing how to control their off-lead pets, & my two girls of a certain age, (especially Annie), aren't over-fond of (e.g.) little JRTs charging towards them & yapping excitedly.
