Paxti was being fostered with a view to fail, but it is not working out as everyone hoped and we are now looking for an alternative foster home for Paxti. If you can help please contact me?

Oh what a shame, fostering isn't always easy, they must be sad it hasn't worked out. I hope someone can step up soon xx

More exposure to doggy etiquette, in big doses, is what Louis needs most. The trick'll be to administer without harm to hounds. Plus, Louis has an adrenalin rush issue, which causes an explosion. Albert [ LOOKING FOR A HOME TOO!] has been bloomin' amazin' with him. Albert's happy to share his toys. Never seen a dog so cooperative, give and take. When doing so with Louis this morning, enticing him to play, dropping the toy for him and/or both dogs on the toy and once, Albert showed calm-o-steel. I was on red alert! But Louis' grumbles and snaps rolled of shool-teacher Albert. However, 10 mins'ish and Albert was getting fed up and rather bemused and Louis flips into the red zone. Not by chance, I was there, separated, Louis in the other room along, muzzle on and all calm. Now I've seen the issue, it's clear how easily Louis could get into fights when out and about, not under close supervision. As I type,,, Albert's snuk up to Louis with a play bow, talking him into a play again. Louis' much subdued with the muzzle on, but still doesn't 'get it'. Doesn't now how to play. Lack of socialisation when young?

Think you have your hands full there Simon but I am sure your techniques will sort him. How does he get on with Ringo?

He certainly was a bit of a handful on the lead and I think unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it Gem was too keen to play all of the time! Sounds like he is in the right place with you Simon. Oh and well done Albert!!

I think Louis is very lucky to have you, Helen, Albert, Joey and Ringo to help him overcome his social difficulties. I think he will get a bit of something from each of the differing inputs. It sounds like Albert is a super dog for this kind of situation. Good luck and well done for stepping up to this challenge.

Oh blimey wotsits.... Got a very good idea of the issues with Louis, who I keep calling Paxti,,,, even typed Paxti first time then, when we were at the SLR walk today. Or not at the walk/pub. Just in the vicinity. To add to reactivenss on lead, we have incessant barking, once he gets going, which doesn't take much. The SLR pack was way too much for him. Hell! A couple of horses almost shut him down. Apologies to everyone I ignored today, which was pretty much everyone except Paxti I mean Louis. The very good news is the amount of progress that was made. Moved the car a little further away from the pub, had a snooze and gave cuddles when he wasn't barking. That alone made a huge impact. Then earn-the-sausage game, with a clenched fist, only releasing it when he wasn't mouthing/pawing. Took what, 7 - 8 goes and he barely looked at my fist before looking at me. He's going to learn fast, if my patience outlasts the headache from his barking! Snooze time!

I met Louis after the pub lunch today and he is a very lovely little dog away from his triggers. He has obviously benefited from your calm approach to his antics already, paying you a lot of attention and being very responsive. He is hopefully going to settle down and relax even more in the next few weeks. He is a really bright boy, best of luck with his 'lessons'. Earplugs in the meantime?

Sorry you didn't get to walk with us all, but top marks for your patient efforts with Louis. Hope you didn't lose the dog bowl you left on the car roof when you moved away!
Keep up the good work!

Well, I can't sing your praises enough Simon...not only did you walk solo, you also spent a good hour or two in the car with Louis (and even ate your lunch in there too). And also a big 'well done' to Helen and your niece, who walked Albert, Joey and Ringo without any drama's. I think you're probably on the right track re the root of his issues...sounds a lot like Scooby (except maybe the barking). The adrenaline rush sounds like Rowlf. Although the fact that he likes to play with other dogs seems to contradict this (take Alfie - tied up for the first months of his life and has no idea how to play nice). Lots of refocusing required. Good luck!

I have just caught up. I am so relieved that he is being sussed and nipped in the bud. It will take a week or so but will be well worth it. Any probs an we have two behaviorists in close proximity that we can call on. I agree, that he needs to socialize more with dogs that will put him in his place, but gently, and when they have had enough tell him. A lot of this type of behavior stems from being taken away from the mother/siblings at an early age. And pups that are taken away before 8 weeks need to have the stimulation from siblings for that extra time. He clearly hasn't had that.

It will take time and oodles of patience, as for the barking, well some dogs just like to bark , you do tune it out eventually.

Albert and Paxti payed full on, without toys, this evening. I'd taken Louis' muzzle off earlier. All very, very good until Paxti got a leg sprain. Probably caused by Albert being at least twice the size, but he'd been pulling his 'punches' magnificently. The main thing is that Paxti barked and sort of half heartedly lunged at Albert, but.... Albert wasn't worried, so sensed no ill intent, Paxti let me feel his leg and within a minute, it was all over. Not a hint of red-zoning,,, at the risk of sounding like Mr Milan. Good day. No blood. Headache's gone.

Progress already. Maybe he just needs to get the measure of his play mates. He and Gemma were very well matched...if you've seen the video, she kept him in his place, but in a nice way.
