I've had an email from Marilyn which gives a bit more info on Melon...
" Yes it was extremely distressing to watch and to be so helpless!
However, on the up side of this, he is recovering well and able to go out for a short walk.
He still salivates rather heavily and he sometimes holds his head at a peculiar angle, but it did only happen last Friday morning, so I think it is early days.
The vet confirmed that it was a stoke, but says that it is impossible to give a prognosis. As he said, Melon could have another one tomorrow or live for several years with it never happening again.( Just like us humans.)
He has seen the vet twice and will be back next week for another examination and blood results.
It is sad that we are now not able to have little Scruff, as she would have been a perfect young pal for Evie in later years, but Melon has to come first."

Ooh ek! Under the nose, into the tub rub a dub dub. Zephyr seems to like having company around Philipa. What a great dog he is.

The disparity in size between Zephyr and Scruffy means that playing is out of the question but a game of chase is fine as long as Scruffy is chasing. Of course, there is no way she can get near Zephyr but they both seem to enjoy it.

Can people see the videos? I used an internet link but it seems to have embedded them.

Yes I can see the videos, but the funny thing is, they start to play before you have reached them . So when I logged onto this thread this squeaky little voice and barking came from nowhere, it was a bit unsettling (I would add Phillipa that my voice is even squeakier than yours when calling the Hounds)

She's really sweet and what a good girl. It looks like Zephyr has adapted to her and they are getting on well. I hope there's someone out there who can see what a lovely little girl she is. She's going to be the perfect companion for someone... love the one of her splashing in the water

Little Scruffy is really coming out of her shell. She runs around Zephyr wagging her tail madly and barking while trying to him. They haven't quite got to the point of playing (which may be a good thing considering the disparity in size nad the fact that Scruffy is completely oblivious to her size inferiority) but there is definite interest in each others company. She also loves picking up a squeaky toy when she is excited and running around making it squeak. She loves meal times, going out for a walk, treats, other dogs, cuddles - she is a real little character and the interaction between her and Zephyr can make me laugh out loud.

It just goes to show that with almost all dogs it's just a matter of time before they settle in and find their relationships. Well done Phillipa, and Zephyr, for taking the time and commitment to bring this little girl out of her shell and give her this happy start to her new life

Scruffy went down to Manor Farm to join all the big dogs on the walk today. She loved every minute of it - greeting all the dogs in the field and making sure they all knew she was there. She behaved very well, off lead on the walk but keeping close to the group and checking in with me regularly. She is fast asleep now.

Scruffy is going in for her girlie op tomorrow. LUckily I have a busy day planned so I won't have time to dwell on it and worry too much.
