Oh Spider - what a lovely lovely hound. Always pleased to see you, always with a waggy tail. He's a delight. He's such a gentle thing. He sits on command and takes treats in the most gentle way - I've never known a hound so gentle. We were brave and let him off last night and he just trotted around sniffing things. His recall with Graham wasn't so good but was much better with me as I think he has been round women a lot and is more use to responding to female voice. Sal is wary of him as he is bigger than her so has not responded to barks and bouces to play. Shadow is a bit more responsive but it takes a lot to shake him up. Overall the lad is doing very well and he's a pleasure.

Some photos of Spider yesterday. Spider is a bit of a plodder when it comes to walking so he could very well suit an older person or someone who likes to take life at a more leisurely pace (interesting with my Sal who likes to go at everything 90 miles an hour ). He's good on the lead though strong when he sees a cat and he can be stubborn and want to go where he wants at his pace. Off the lead Spider doesn't go mad but he likes to be free to wander and sniff - his recall is fairly good. In the house he's very relaxed, loves a snooze on a sofa. He's up for cuddles and will sit close to you but is not a cuddle monster or massively demanding. He wags his tail almost constantly and responds to being spoken to. He is very very relaxed, will happily share his bed. Gorgeous

Spider has been her for just over 2 weeks and it feels like he's always been here.
He has been stressed and missing his mum but as time gets on he seems to get more and more relaxed. He's fitted in well with us all. He's so easy to have around.
He will make such a good companion for someone and I don't feel he needs other dogs around (though he gets on well with my two) he is very much a people dog. On walks he's a plodder and even of the lead tend to plod and sniff and when running is quite lumbering.
He is lovely lovely, such an expressionate face and eyes and always with a waggy tail. Easiest foster we have had.

Spider continues to relax with us and is turning into a cuddle monster. He's found his place in the pack - slap bang in the middle under Sal (of course) and Shadow is relegated to number 3 which is where he is happy.
Spider does have issues with bigger dogs and can at times bark and lunge on the lead but this is not uncontrolable and with a pull and a 'no' he comes back in line. Off the lead he seems very aware of larger dogs and again can seem keen to start on them but Spider is a slow creature and he is easy to set hold of and put back on the lead and we have had many happy walks without incident.
He is always pleased to see us, in fact he is the only hound that greets me at times with a very waggy tail.
He's a pleasure.

My heart goes out to Jan. Hope she takes comfort from knowing he is being so well cared for though. He sounds like a really laid back lad, shame he doesn't do cats though.

Spider was like a new dog on walks today. He even had a little run! He had a good explore and seemed really happy. I'm not sure if this is because he had the whole pack out with him (often G does walking while I do house work) or if he has become more settled and happier in general. Because there were 2 of us it's easier to let him off the lead and keep an eye on him. He did bark and lunge at a bigger dog - a goldern Lab, so this is an issue he has (though he's never had a problem with Shadow). We're trying to make progress. He had a bark at our friend's weimaraners the other day but once he'd calmed down he walked happily with them and didn't react at all when he saw them the day after. We think a home where he is a single dog would be good. He is such a devoted hound. We'd love to see him settled where he can grow and become less anxious.
