With his confidence growing we're starting to see some issues that will need to be dealt with.
He's a bit like that 6 year old, snotty kid who you catch throwing stones or spitting and turns round and says "yeah, what you gonna do about it".
If it was a 6 year old I'd give him a clip round the ear (not very PC I know) but Ozzy would just think you were playing. At some stage he has learnt to play a game where he sneaks up behind you and bites your ankles which naturally results in you whirling round to chastise him. Presumably the games intent is to get me to chase him. Rule No 23.1 Don't ever chase your dog !
No amount of stern "No's" have any effect. Not good and it's proving hard to get him out of it.
Today as soon as he started I managed to grab him and put a lead on. He stopped straight away so at least that's something but as soon as the lead comes off he's looking to start his game again.
He's not a great one for being calm if there's any attention to be had. Of course this leads people to try and ignore him for fear of having him bounce all over you like Tigger, which I guess makes his desire for attention even more acute.
Cracker being so calm and cuddly (indoors) just makes the contrast even greater.
Cath summed it up the other day when she said that Ozzy just doesn't have any manners. I'm inclined to agree right now.

Hi Mike. Have you tried the water trick? No good with some dogs, but MeMe, who used to rush along the hedge screeching every time our neighbour walked past, absolutely hated it - one spray stopped her in her tracks and she never did it again! Doesn't hurt, just startles!
xx Kate

He is a typical lurcher delinquent Mike. We have had our fair share of them here. Yep, ground rules and back to basics.

However on a walk Ozzy is a star. Great on the lead with little if any pulling. Great off the lead when in "walking mode",doesn't go too far or too fast and has a recall that works, well most of the time anyway. Is friendly and sociable with other people and respectful of other dogs, initially. Familiarity breeds contempt though pretty fast with Ozzy so he needs keeping in check. He gets admiring comments as he's a lovely looking dog, especially now he's lost a couple of stone.
Almost chalk and Cheese with Cracker who frankly is the complete opposite of the above, with the exception of his handsome features. Oh well I suppose it makes the walks with both of them interesting at least.....

Ozzy gets better every day - not that there was much wrong in the first place. Enthusiastic I think sums him up coupled with the fact he's not yet two years old.
Not a bad bone in his body any issues are accidental and just due to high excitement getting the better of him, however this is getting better every day and as a result he's now allowed more access to the house, sofa etc.

Hi M&C,
How's it going with C and O? Any improvement or are they still tearing chunks out of each other? How are you and Charlie bearing up?

No chunks but Ozzy wants to play and Cracker wants to be alone. Charlie has taken to lying under my PC chair the whole time!

Poor Charlie, what a long-suffering gent he is. Sounds like the best hope is for someone to fall in love with Cracker. He's so gorgeous It can only be a matter of time surely...? Have just organised two nights away towards the end of April - there's no way we could contemplate putting the girls in kennels so we're doing a housesitting trial run with our neighbour's daughter. She's a professional, completely unflappable, and will have no problem (I hope) explaining to Tilly who's in charge, but we're not venturing too far in case we need to come back in a hurry! Keep your fingers crossed it works out as G's going to Istanbul in May (for 5 DAYS!) and there's just a chance I might get to go too - Yee-Haa.
xx K

oooh - new stuff for the girlies. I am sure things will be OK. Please give the housesitter my phone numbers so if there is an issue, I can help out if needed and so you don't have to come back!

You are a complete angel, but wouldn't dream of it - you've got your hands quite full enough already! Debbie (housesitter) is wonderful, oozes doggy-calming pheromones, and it was her idea to kick us out for 2 nights rather than one. Clearly she can't wait to get her hands on T&D (she's already met them) without me twitching in the background - she's bringing two dogs of her own but she's promised if T's a problem with them they'll trot down the track to stay with Granny and wdho knows, Tilly might actually enjoy having guests (am I being delusional here?).

We too have used a housesitting service run by our vets nurse, whose sittersi are terrific. They come round to meet you and the hounds and you get the opportunity to give them the once over. There is unfortunately one drawback, which is that the little poppets don't want her to go!! CHEEK ! Have a smashing time, you clearly deserve it. Loonies rock! ( Laddies as well as ladies )

Exciting new for Ozzy today. He's going to stay on the Isle of Wight with Willowsmum. It's hoped that a bit of female instruction might refine his manners a little!!! Just what he needs I think!

Wonderful - a forceful woman could be just what the boy needs (just what most boys need, when you think about it!).

Thanks Sue wasn't sure how the forum worked. Ozzy has settled quite quickly and is getting on with our cat, well I mean that he isn't chasing him around lol. Very well behaved during the night. A very inquisitive boy and loves a good cuddle. Going for long walks at least twice a day so should reac the ideal weight soon. Thankyou for allowing himinto our lives he's a star.
