I'm afraid little Henry is still up for adoption. Unfortunately his prospective adopters could not comply with the criteria for adoption. What a shame another prospective home rejected! Having myself felt I was going to be rejected, just on the reaction I received from filling the application form as honestly as I could, I am now the proud owner of a 9 week old pup which I bought from a breeder. Having got her at 7 weeks old I have keep the diary clear and put everything including my part time job on the back boiler. As I said on my form I have kept dogs for over 25 years and yet this was not good enough for SLR. I think you should seriously look at your criteria, which I realise is meant to be in the best interest of the dogs, and take each case as it comes if you are not going to alienate more experienced dog rehomers at the cost of the dogs you are trying to help.

No-one needs to be homechecked to go and buy a dog from a person who just wants to make some money. Rescue Dogs have more protection, and we protect them to the hilt.
Would you like to know why the person was not passed - because they do NOT vaccinate their dogs after initial puppy vaccinations, and do not insure their dogs, which any responsible dog owner knows is there for the protection of the public as well as vets bills. If a dog runs off lead into the path of a car and causes death or injury, insurance is there.
We have strict re-homing criteria for a reason, and having read that criteria, if you did not meet it it shouldn't come as a surprise that you are not accepted. The criteria is clearly stated on the homing page, and on every thread.
The dogs are paramount. And in our book they aren't to be put on the back boiler when ready.
ADDED... Your application would not have passed as you have absolutely no boundaries to the back of your property, and also a very dangerous ditch. You applied for Dezzie, and having passed the application to the foster home, it was felt that your garden would be a hazzard, and Dezzie would escape. I have rougly 4 views on photograph of the back of your garden Caroline, and am quite willing to post them on here if you would like me to. Criteria clearly states that gardens must be secure.

I explained to the applicant and she was lovely about it, but said that it was just their way.

Chook I meant from the post written above not the other applicant i know that some people just do things different Yep, but I was explaining that to Caroline, who doesn't understand. Interesting lack of fencing in Caroline's garden. And she has only owned J.R.T. and terriers, never a Lurcher.

On the subject of fencing............ This little lad has another criteria now, please only apply if your fences are 6ft, I know it seems like criteria after criteria, rules after regulations, but............ This little thing with wonky legs has just jumped ontop of the BIG crate, ie the one that fits my girls in. Thats no mean feat for a little pup. He's determined I'll give him that, and would hate for him to be jumping out of gardens and taking himself for a walk. Even if he does think he deserves it

He's so sweet... Is he completely cat friendly? I dont have cats, but I can easily check, he just has to make a little trip to the boys Dad. I have, however, never had a problem with a pup of this age being introduced to any of my cats as long as there are clear boundries

I have just read this thread and may I add that everything that Jenny said about why we failed the home check is perfectly true, what she didn't add was that when she rang me to tell me her decision and explain fully why and the reasons of why it was so vital to do the booster and the insurance,I totally agreed to comply and fully follow her wishes but she told me 'that it was too late ,that she could never consider homing a hound with us as she didn't feel that she would be able to POLICE us..... her words At this point we felt that our integrity was now at question and this is the bit that I do deeply take umbridge at.The home checker was a ministers wife and she did the job with total precise attention to detail, and I have heard from her since this has happened, saying that she gave us a wonderful report and actually has not been contacted by Jenny at all I will leave it at that but both sides needed stating...... I do wish Helen all the very best with dear Henry ,she is doing a wonderful job with the little chap.......

Ruby, it appears that like me you failed to make the grade by being too honest and I think in the long run us rejects are all better off not being POLICED by Jenny! I photographed my garden (no one actually bothered to come and see it) but I was told that if I could not provide a 6 foot fence on all sides I could not keep a lurcher. I have never had a problem with my dogs getting out and the farmers cattle on the other side of the ditch have never got into my garden.
I vaccinate my dogs but do not always insure them. I have public liability insurance that would cover any accidents caused by my dogs as part of my home insurance and I self-insure by having a savings account into which I put what I used to pay to an insurance company. Pet insurance does not pay for everything and often if you have a dog with a chronic illness they slap on an exclusion. You must read all the small print and shop around carefully for the right policy for you and your dog.
Keeping dogs is not rocket science and I never realised that keeping lurchers was so much harder than other breeds, after all they are traditionally gypsy dogs! I have several friends with different types of lurchers and they are all lovely, biddable hounds. I do hope you are successful in rehoming elsewhere and I am now going to leave this forum, before I am banished, and get on with enjoying my two dogs!

we put the dogs first, not the people. its unfortunate you are both upset,
Quote "Keeping dogs is not rocket science and I never realised that keeping lurchers was so much harder than other breeds, after all they are traditionally gypsy dogs"
Says it all.........lol
I hope this thread is locked as its meant to be about a little pup with a bad start to life looking for a new home

I photographed my garden (no one actually bothered to come and see it) That's not actually true. I phoned to make an appointment to homecheck and you cancelled stating you had bought a whippet puppy.
