Snoopy (was Storm) is presently being fostered with Lesley and Ian in Kent, being kidnapped on his transport run ;D We are listing him, but do have more than an incline that this dog may NOT be up for adoption. Cats (not bothered), Rabbit friendly, and loves people. The only reason he has come into rescue from his loving home is that his life was being made intolerable by the toddlers of the family A lovely lovely lad.. Thank god I didn't transport him ;D

Hello Mimsmum,
Just catching up after a holiday andf have just seen this little chap. he looks exactly what we've been looking for.
I note you say that his fosterers may well decide to keep him. If not, please bear me in mind.
We were home checked by Lurcherlink in Feb and are also reg with GRWE- been waiting since Oct for the right dog.
I've written to you before. We live in Devon and have a 24" brindle bitch (GRWE) who's about 8-10 yrs old and obedient and steady. We a;lso have 2 cats. We work, but someone is home for part of the day and we have a dog door to our enclosed garden.

He was snuggled up with Ian on the settee all evening.
Went out for a last pee with Bran then came upstairs with us; tried to get him to sleep on his bed, but was a little bit unsure so came on the bed with us.
Had a good night except I think he was cold, but once covered with his fleece he was fine. I think he will be a good guard dog as well as when the kids came and whatever unearthly hour it was he grumbled and woofed, so that's not a bad thing as all we get with Bran, if we're lucky, is a raised head.
Snapped at Bran when he jumped on the bed, but I think that was because Bran jumped up a bit close. They've had breakfast together this morning and they're fine.
The grandson was here yesterday and overnight and good with him too; we've explained to Charlie just not to be too noisy and to be gentle with Storm at the moment as he is settling in.
I think poor old Teabag, the cat with the dodgy eye, thinks she is seeing double. ;D
Neither of them will come through the dining room if Tigger, the hissy one, is sitting there; they are a pair of woosies (I don'tknow if that's the right spelling.)

Just to add a bit on his "snaps" at Bran. It's when Bran gets very close, has a sniff, or catches him by surprise. It looks to be very much a defensive action and certainly he is not outwardly aggressive, very far from it. It may well be something that will stop once Storm gets settled and feels more secure, but if anybody has any useful tips for us (other than use of a tazer) then please let us know. It's by no means a big issue, could resolve itself, but if there's some training tip that might help then we can give it a go.

Basically it sounds as though he is protecting his space but I personally would make him get off furniture and beds if he is not willing to share, it may get better but on the other hand allowing him to do this could escalate the problem between him and Bran.

we had this with bessie until she knew she was staying and safe. i think its just settling in,they don't know each other and to wake up with a strange dog too close is a shock.bes did a little when we got dom but now they are getting very close(well as close as bes does to any dog).they did have a bit of a punch up about two weeks in just to sort things out i think but dom dont understand dogs so he was pushing things a bit.

I think he is doing that, but only when really close up. He does share the bed etc and is fine so long as Bran is not having a sniff. They can pass each other right up close and he is fine, it seems to be more "close" attention he is not keen on. I'm not sure keeping him of fthe furniture will help, as that doesn't seem to be an issue with the other dog.
Just back from a very soggy walk and the same thing there. Other dogs can come up to him with no problem, but he didn't like the bum sniffing, and to be fair there were 3 dogs he didn't know all round him. Maybe some good old socialisation is wanted ?

Maybe some good old socialisation is wanted ? Yup - the more the better!
My Erin is fine with all dogs, but will snap at any that get too up close & personal when she's not in the mood, & that includes the resident hounds.

Oh dear ;D ;D we dont think he met any before we got him, he dont seem to of left the house and just thought he was one of the cats ! he's learning and the more dogs he meets the better he gets!if your going to the riverside country park walk that should do some good, but some dogs just dont like others getting to close and personal . scotty

Forgot the update yesterday, sorry, new dog and everything. Had a really good night with him on Saturday, although ended up on the bottom of the bed. He seemed to get cold during the night, but once covered with the fleece he brought with him soon snuggled down. He asks to go out which is always a plus. Another good night last night; we left him downstairs with Bran, but at about 1.30 he snucked on the bed, but I must admit you don't notice him as much as Bran. Bran wanted to play this morning and frightened the life out of him, but he didn't snap at all, just looked worried, so I think that will come in time. Both been around the woods again this morning and we met a Saluki who had only been with the owner 2 weeks; very nervy, she said that the rescue thinks he had been quite badly treated. Storm did snap again, it seems to be when they sniff the rear end; would there be any particular reason for this? I will take them to our local country park this afternoon, so that Bran can have a good run; don't panic I won't let Storm off just yet, although I get the feeling he won't go too far. I will add some piccies later, but I've forgotten how.

Missy snapped like that at Robbie for the first couple of days - I used to say no firmly whilst at same time spray her in face with water. Only had to do it for a day and she learnt - the sight of the water spray after that did the trick

It is quite likely that he does just need some time. He is already getting on better with Bran and looking more settled in the house. However it's when he meets dogs he is not used to when out walking that we need to be careful in case he snaps at them when sniffed, but something I'm sure we can find a fix for other than gaffer tape ;D To be fair if some stange bloke can along and sniffed my crutch i think i would snap at him too He went out in to the garden this morning and did his first high speed circuits, with the emphasis there on FAST !!! Being smaller than Bran he can corner better in the garden and looks to be quicker, so it should be interesting when they get to run off lead together. Some pics to follow tonight.

Ok, we did say there would be some more pics. I've uploaded them to photobucket and Lesley will no doubt post some later, but i thought I would sneek this one in quickly before she sees it This was Storm this morning. Bran will come up to see us and normally jumps on the bed for a cuddle. Storm gets IN the bed where it's nice and warm and cosy. He doesn't seem to worry about taking then odd liberty here and there
