Time for a more detailed Sunny update- in 2 parts because it turned out so long! Part 1: The way he has improved over the last 5 days is amazing, he is a different dog. He seems so much less frail and old, years have been knocked off. He is happy and confident now, and it is a joy to see. He loves fusses and cuddles, but isn't pushy, licky or slobbery with it, just stands quietly by you waiting. When he is happy to see you he also likes to jump up (very gently!) and put his paws in your hands. It's so lovely when he does this to you, it makes you feel very special. He has had a few accidents in the house but this is mostly due to not being able to get outside quick enough, let out often and he should be fine. He's now eating burns food but it has to be softened as he tends to just swallow and not chew the kibble. He is still a little fussy with the dry food though and would prefer more raw food in his diet. Still loving the chicken wings! He is very into food, and wants to be around when food is around. However he doesn't counter surf, he doesn't steal or snatch food and is very polite around it. You can take his bowl away while he's eating and he happily eats around us and the dogs. He can also do a sit for a treat, albeit a slow one, and he did it without prompting so it is obviously something he knew before. He is very happy on the sofas now and can be found there most of the time, so would love a sofa to snooze on in his new home ( and he deserves it!) Outside he continues to walk perfectly on lead and is very quiet and easy. We let him off at Heartswood today, and his recall was wonderful. Most of the time he potters along at a distance behind you, not by your side but staying in the vicinity. If you call him he comes trotting over to you, and often does come over to 'check in.' A couple of times he went running off after something but stopped and returned after we called. He has better recall than our two! and is the perfect dog to potter along with, he can be offlead most of the time as he doesn't go far. He doesn't have a speed much faster than a kind of gentle lope!

Part 2: The only issue we have is that Sunny, while he has never growled or grumbled, gets slightly dominant around male dogs. He ignores our two most of the time, but if they're all up and about he takes on the 'head high, tail up, stiff body' dominance posture and it often results in some humping action. We thought it might just be settling in behaviour, but I doubt he'll stop being like this. We met a male Lab today, and again, no aggression, but he was 'posturing' and he would have attempted a hump if the dog hadn't run off (he chased after it but did come back) I don't want to make it worse than it sounds, and is manageable outside, but it's just too much for him to live with, they just get Sunny kind of randy and uncomfortable! and on the flip side, male dogs seem to see him as a bit of a target, probably feeding off his vibes. So, because of this if rehomed with another dog we'd like it to be female. He doesn't get anything from living with boys, but in comparison Sunny loves the girls and would be very happy following a girlfriend around, they seem to inject more life into him. 1 or 2 at the most as he loooovvves your attention and we don't want him being crowded out. However he could also be an only dog as he really loves people, but if so he'd need someone around all/most of the time as he does really like company and may get lonely if left completely by himself regularly. He is still quite elderly and needs patient, understanding humans, so no young children, teens +. So if you have a calm household, either with a gentle, placid lady friend or 2 or just you hoomans, please let us know. Sunny asks for so little, he is low mileage and would even make a perfect first time dog/lurcher. He is content to shaddow you or snooze the day away, exercise wise he's happy with 2 half hour potters + toilet trips per day. All he wants is a sofa to sleep on, good food, and your love. He is sweet, gorgeous, adorable, loving and so placid and easy. He will be your heart dog. Sunny deserves a very special home. He's really touched our hearts. (P.S- We will also try and get him cat tested. ) Come on, what are you waiting for?

Most of the time it's just air humping... he's a bit too elderly for the full on version! ETA Jenny's suggested we get him checked out when he has his second jabs as he might have undescended testicles, and still be 'entire' in a sense. That would explain the behaviour. So we'll find out soon.

He looks too innocent to hump !!!! It's always the innocent one's ;D. Bolt had undescended one's too and we had them whipped out. In our house it was Perdy who was trying it on him though like a boy would - dominant little girly she is ;D.

Time for a quick update on Sunny... oh wait, there's nothing to update! This boy is practically perfect in every way. Apart from his eagerness with the boys which hopefully we'll get to the bottom of when he goes for his 2nd jabs, there is NOTHING bad we can say about this boy. In fact I'll probably end up repeating myself, he really hasn't changed at all in the last week! He is still clean in the house (the only time he may slip is if he doesn't go in the garden first thing). He now eats 2 burns meals a day + extras, although he usually eats his brekkie in 2 parts as he isn't always hungry in the morning. He is always happy, always sweet and gentle. He loves all people and has no hang ups or fears whatsoever. Now every morning and anytime he hasn't seen you for a while, without fail he gives you lovely cheesy grins to show you how happy he is . It's so funny and heartwarming. He sleeps away most of the day, and will happily sleep alone downstairs with the boys for up to 5 hours while I'm upstairs. His exercise requirements are so little compared to a lot of dogs-he is still completely happy with 3 half hour walks a day (mostly on lead at the moment as we can't always do our normal secure walk) but can also easily do an hour's walk offlead. He is so gentle and easy as unlike most lurchers he doesn't bomb about, in fact he hardly ever runs, just trots! (No chance of being lurchered with this boy). He doesn't do playing, he tends to just mooch along in his own little world. Although he loves food and likes being in the kitchen if you are, he is so quiet it's no bother, and he will leave if you tell him 'out.' He doesn't steal food left out, countersurf or bin rid. I really can't think of anything more to say. This boy is so, so gentle and easy, so happy go lucky. He loves cuddles and attention and is so loving. He is so quiet, he hasn't barked or cried once since he's been there, even when ours start up. He has all the best lurcher traits without the more "interesting ones" . He really would be the perfect first lurcher for someone. He's good with all breeds so could go with any type of dog, and he still really loves the girls, especially Minnie the poodle x he walks with in the mornings. It would be lovely to find him a home with a girl or 2. He doesn't play with other dogs, so we should make clear he's never going to be a suitable match for a dog that just wants to play. But with a suitable dog that's just happy to have his quiet company, he would make the perfect male companion. He's a more mature lad but is so full of life and has so much more to give. He really is a dog in a million. And he's gorgeous to boot! We'll get some more pictures over the weekend.
