They have all the paperwork for you just in case Laurie. And if they don't love her we have two families jumping up and down to meet her.

Unfortunately Truffle did not go to her new home today. A combination of a couple of things. Truffle has become a real lurcher in the last two weeks and can jump. It was not until today on the visit that it came to light that the proposed Adopter's fence had been re-built as we asked, but that it had only been re-built to 4.6". After the problems with little Molly, (who was purported not to be a jumper), jumping over the back garden fence of 4' and doing a runner we have had to be vidulent about fencing. Because of a misunderstanding, and the exact height not being mentioned by the Homechecker (not her fault) and in any emails or paperwork the Adopters were not aware the fencing needed to be 6 foot. They replaced the majority of their fencing to a height of 4' 6". But the height was never mentioned, just that the job was finished, and I APPROVED them as having fulfilled the obligations of rehoming. Laurie knows Truffle well by now and knowing that the fencing was low and backed onto rabbit territory she couldn't see it being the safest environment for Truffle. Laurie rang me, and I am afraid I had to agree. It was no-one's fault. Well I have to take blame as the height of the fencing should have been stipulated in our application forms. We just have a question that says "How high is the fencing and is it secure"? We need to amend that. I can only give my profound apologies on behalf of the Rescue for a long car journey for the proposed Adopters only to find out this at the point they met Truffle. This would not stop the Adopters from adopting from us, as it is the environment for the dogs that matters and we may well get in a dog that doesn't jump. But that does not help with the disappointment that the family must be feeling today. At the end of the day the Buck stops at my feet, and I am deeply sorry.

These misunderstandings just happen Jenny and best to find out before it was to late about their fencing. If Truffle is a jumper and she got out and had an accident no one would forgive themselves, so it had to be the best decision in every ones interest. I expect her right home will come along soon.

Every one involved must be feeling very disappointed today and I have lots of sympathy for you all. But what ever the actual reasons are, if it didn't happen for Truffle today, it is because it wasn't meant to I know that probably isn't much consolation right now but, when it is meant to happen, it will

Hope the children weren't too disappointed. However, I felt that if Truffs had seen the rabbits in the fields their house backed on to, she would easily have jumped fences that height so had no option but to let Jenny know. And Jenny, of course, had to agree especially after the Molly incident. Such a shame for the family especially the husband who was most upset. I hope they can find a dog to suit their situation soon. Meanwhile Truffle behaved so well with the children, its clear she will be a wonderful family dog when the right home comes along.

Dogs that jump will easily clear a 4ft6 fence - Jimmy the lurcher around the corner to me clears their 6ft fence hence the reason we found him one night and also the reason why we now have lurchers as we fell in love with him. I do feel for the family as they must be disappointed but there are lots of dogs that wont jump and Im sure they will find the right dog soon. Good girl Truffle for being so well behaved with the children - you are an angel
